The other day I was in one of those moods, and I put on the Unplugged Nirvana CD, and while I was cleaning the apartment. It made me realize that its been a long time since I even thought about Kurt Cobain -- there is an entire generation growing up w/out ever hearing his words. We need to lend our music to this new generation, and show them what real music sounded like!

JrzyGirl is absolutley right (: everyone should make it their mission to make sure that kurt and nirvana are always remembered
>>By therion (Sunday, 6 Jun 2004 04:38)
Well, I do my best to get younger people to listen to Nirvana. But very few people actually appreciate the lyrics, even if they can actually hear what he's saying all the time.

. No offence to them but Dave is a way better drummer and Nirvana sound better with one guitar.
This must be the reason why they took an extra guitarist in the band during and after In Utero?
>>By Campking (Sunday, 6 Jun 2004 15:33)
*cries* Why wasn't I born sooner, dammit? I'd have so loved to see a Nirvana gig... Smells Like Teen Spirit would be awesome live. Maybe if I get in a band we'll cover it... or is that an insult to his memory? What do you guys think?
>>By i_love_lauri (Friday, 11 Jun 2004 14:15)
an insult to his memory? it really depends on which song you cover and how well its done :)
>>By idontknowdotcom23 (Friday, 11 Jun 2004 20:01)
i don't think anyone would be insulting the memory of Kurt by preforming one of his song. in anyway we can remeber him it will keep him alive. however i don't think anyone can afflict emotion like he could. unless they puke up bile and blood and shoot up right before going on stage. Kurt was a gifted young guy but man what a chewed up piece of meat. he did it all to himself. what i'm wondering is mabey if he would have exersized stayed on a healthy diet and sticked to prescribed meds instead of shit off the streets, mabey his physical pain would have cleared up like his mothers did. manic deprssion is really hard to get out of. but if you channel your negitive feelings you can make something great out of it. if he would have been a little more patient i think he would have been cabable of sooo much more. alot more.
>>By #3loserwithpride (Monday, 14 Jun 2004 16:32)
yeah thats all very true loserwithpride :) you could pull off a nirvana cover but it wouldn't be as emotional or as amazing as the original nirvana song :)
>>By idontknowdotcom23 (Tuesday, 15 Jun 2004 22:57)
No, of course it wouldn't be an insult to his memory - it'd be a great tribute. Just make sure you do it right. My band even rewrote the lyrics and called it Smells Like Teen Depression, as a tribute to the music. It's still awesome. Vavin: I play a wide variety of styles, including grunge, punk, hip hop, nu-metal... Well, loads of stuff really. I don't want to get tied down to any particular genre and end up like Avirl Lavigne.
>>By Sk8a H8a (Wednesday, 16 Jun 2004 14:48)
poor Avril..God she's lame.
>>By #3loserwithpride (Wednesday, 16 Jun 2004 19:01)
She's alright actually - it's just that people listen to her and decide that they don't think she's punk and disagree about her genre and say she sucks just because she's really popular and they don't think she deserves that. Well, I don't think she deserves the abuse she gets. Ah well, all I can do is hope that'll never happen to me. Well, Nirvana will always be the shizzle. A lot of people don't like Kurt Cobain's voice or understand the lyrics and some don't like the music, but I think it's all awesome.

Why are we discussing Avril Lavigne in a NIrvana discussion....
>>By odnanref (Wednesday, 16 Jun 2004 20:12)
ok nobody say avril that way we'll illiminate any discussion on her...back to nirvana...sk8a h8a that smells like teen spirit parody sounds very cool :) i guess it's fine...kurt would probably want people to carry on making and remaking his music
>>By idontknowdotcom23 (Wednesday, 16 Jun 2004 20:54)
do you guys think he really didn't want people to read his journals though? it's so hard to tell with him because he was such a walking contradiction (up to his neck in contradictionary flys) mabey he said that to get people more intruiged.
>>By #3loserwithpride (Thursday, 17 Jun 2004 01:41)
No, I think he didn't want people reading them. The very reason he committed suicide was that he couldn't stand fame or rather people prying into his life. He wanted his privacy and when he became famous, everyone wanted to know all about him.
>>By Sk8a H8a (Thursday, 17 Jun 2004 12:58)
kurt got so fucked around by the media, i am fairly sure that he really didnt want people reading his journals. He said that the media and being famous forced him to be paranoid and thats part of the reason y he killed himself.
>>By fish4ever (Thursday, 17 Jun 2004 15:20)
thats hard, because at the beginning of his journal he says "don't read my journal when i'm gone" or something and then just a few inches down that same page, it says "ok i'm about to go to work now, when i'm dead, read my diaries and figure me out" or something like that..so yeah that just goes to show how much of a contradiction he was...i didn't bother buying the journals...my sister did, and you don't learn anything new except what you already knew scribbled in messy handwriting on a peice of notebook paper...i don't recommend it
>>By idontknowdotcom23 (Thursday, 17 Jun 2004 23:54)
Oh, selling the journal was just a way to make additional money out of him. Some people are sick - as soon as someone dies they look for the best way to get money from them.

I'm so happy, because today I found Incesticide - seriously, that rocks. And From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah.
>>By Sk8a H8a (Saturday, 26 Jun 2004 13:00)
From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah - awesome album. Most of the song son there are drastically different to the studio versions and they're more enjoyable. A song I love at this moment: Hairspray Queen.

It's funny. you know the gut past away 10 years ago. wow . 10 fucking years. and yet there are still 14 year olds loving his music. and its funny. the years bleed away like an alcoholics freshly skuffed knee. but almost every day i learn something new about Kurt. He's a ducking Saint i know it. he is just an Angel. and hes lyrics are so good. he describes his emotions with freakin flowers for Gods sakes . FLOWERS! thats incredible. he was so incredible. and now his physical body has been transformed to dust. no matter how noble we all become star dust.
>>By #3loserwithpride (Friday, 16 Jul 2004 05:04)
What do you think of Dive (the first track on Incesticide)?
>>By Flake 1.6 (Sunday, 18 Jul 2004 14:20)
Its got a good beat!! Am I the only one ancient enough to have seen Nirvana play live????
>>By kurts_boiler (Thursday, 22 Jul 2004 23:20)
haha i dont know, but you are so lucky!!! i would give anything to have had the chance to see nirvana live but i was like....4 years old....
>>By idontknowdotcom23 (Friday, 23 Jul 2004 19:00)
I had tickets, and that is the whole trauma of my puberty.......................
But then again I did see Alice in Chains and screaming trees in a duo concert which levels that trauma abit.
>>By Campking (Saturday, 24 Jul 2004 00:13)
Great band....with the exception on Tenacious D, I think they were the last really wonderful band to come out.
>>By happiness...man (Saturday, 24 Jul 2004 07:28)
Well, Nirvana had better lyrics than Tenacious D... I think the Red Hot Chili Peppers are also really wonderful, but then they came out before Nirvana - but they're still around.
How come there's no separate discussion for the OTHER Nirvana?
>>By Sk8a H8a (Tuesday, 31 Aug 2004 15:56)
hey, Nirvana is the best group ever, and kurt cobain rocked until he killed himself like an idiot
>>By guitargirl (Thursday, 16 Sep 2004 00:38)
Hmmm... I love Nirvana... Though I only own In Utero, Nevermind, and Nirvana... I plan to get the others...
