Everyone here must be really young. This is why, I suppose, many of you practically suggest that the 90's rock music stems directly from Nirvana. What about the amazing 80's american underground scene with bands like sonic youth, pixies, dinosaur jr, rem, melvins and mudhoney to name but a few. Bands that apparently were huge influences on Nirvana themselves. Nirvana didn't do anything new or groundbreaking. They just wrote some really good music. A fact that was not lost on music lovers around the world. And we have to accept that, although totally deserved, their huge success was partly due to the "right place - right time" factor along with intense Mtv exposure and Geffen promotional tactics. And of course Kurt's personality played a significant part that is not to be underestimated.

Okay, Sk8a H8a--sounds like a hmm political kinda thing you got going on, right? (Just a guess...by the name)...and Thom--you are so ABSOLUTELY right!, But the thing is, we are in a Nirvana dissucion room, so by all means express your feelings about Nirvana not starting anything...grunge-wise i guess. I don't think that anyone ever said that Nirvana didn't start grunge rock, i think we were most or less saying how the now "poser" bands believe they stemed out from Nirvana, almost as, if Nirvana didn't happen, they wouldn't be so "good". Just for a reference, i am young, 16 infact, but i know my Nirvana (REM, Mudhoney, and Melvins).......I am SOOOOOO sorry, i know you are ready to let loose on me by saying this one more time, i am just so convinced that Courtney did this to Kurt. Yes, like i said before, i do believe that Kurt would still be dead if Courtney wasn't around. But i believe he wouldn't have died then and there. When: (I think not to long after when he really did die.) and Where: (My guess, running away from of a Rehab-Center or maybe even COURNEY LOVE) :) :)!! okay, well honestly that is my thoughts!

u know...nirvana is a great band, but they kinda suck...a lot!!!
wats up with u people?
then again...they r very good? not

>>By zoso

Political thing? My band name, you mean? I guess you could say that... we don't have many politically-oriented songs though. Just stuff that's important to us and that doesn't really include politics since we're not eligible to vote and even people as old as 16 get ignored by the government. Oh well...
Yeah, I didn't mean that REAL rock bands were inspired by Nirvana. It's stuff like Simple Plan and Good Charlotte that I was talking about.

>>By Sk8a H8a

I guess I have to agree with Thom....

Besides I think that bands like the pixies and sonic youth have had a greater influence on "rock:" then Nirvana did, were not only that Nirvana found their inspiration in those bands, and that the bassplayer of Sonic Youth "discovered" Nirvana when she "worked" for Geffen....

>>By Campking

Why are those two words in "inverted commas"??

>>By Sk8a H8a

1) I don't consider PIxies and sonic youth as rock nor most of the bands they have influenced...
2) You discover an Island, you don't discover a band, but by lack of a better word....
3) She didn't have a contract with Geffen, but was asked to be a spotter for the label. So I guess it isn't really work, she was asked to do this because sonic youth would meet up with loads of bands on tour, and would always get tapes slipped with the words: "Can you listen to this, please?" as beginning bands always hopefully do....

(To bad now these places of spotters are filled for a part with suits again, who only see commerce.........)

>>By Campking

Haha, I didn't mean "rock". I know what you mean now, with the other words. They looked a bit dodgy, especially "worked".

>>By Sk8a H8a

Uh, yeah, "worked" sounded like the sort of work Monica Lewinski used to do for Bill Clinton.

>>By Sk8a H8a

hmm

>>By idontknowdotcom23

I wouldn't say that into her face... met her face to face once, and she is one fierce woman...... and a hell of musician in a great band....

>>By Campking

who?

>>By idontknowdotcom23

The bass player of Sonic youth, who worked for Geffen....

>>By Campking

oh right

>>By idontknowdotcom23

I love when I'm watching the Kurt specials on MTV2 and i see Good Charlotte saying, with out Nirvana we wouldn't be what we are today!!...HAHA NO!

>>By BRIANNA

Good Charlotte's music is nothing like nirvana's. Nirvana are good Good Charlotte ARENT

>>By fish4ever

yeah exactly and gc would be here and they would still sound the same but theyre just saying that they are inspired by nirvana cuz thats the most mainstream rock band they can think of that will gain popularity from people who like pop and people who like rock...

>>By idontknowdotcom23

To think of nirvana as a mainstream band is quite strange... I don't think that Good Charlotte ever listened to anything interesting, and certainly not to Nirvana. If they had, they would surely sound more interesting and adventurous then they do now... Now they basically suck, and rip off all pop punk tunes......

>>By Campking

Nirvana is the shit.... :)

>>By lil_shorty452

wut do u guys think on the whole murder/suicide thing??

>>By Cookie8Monster

ugh yay this whole fight again! oh well i guess this is what these discussion boards are for! to argue whether kurt cobain was murdered or killed himself... oh well let the battle begin!

>>By idontknowdotcom23

Nirvana were not mainstream - they were just quite popular. That was simply because they're great.

>>By Sk8a H8a

wut do u guys think on the whole murder/suicide thing??

Read somewhere about pages 6 or 7...................

>>By Campking

Yeah, I wish people wouldn't come along and repeat stuff like that. There's also the Kurt Cobain board to discuss that kind of thing.

>>By Sk8a H8a

yeah people before you start messaging, look at previous boards so you can see what we all think about those topics :) yeah nirvana aren't mainstream i dont know why i said that so stop saying they arent....

>>By idontknowdotcom23

Hey, I have three of Nirvana's albums, but I don't have Incesticide. Does anyone think I'm not a real fan?? And how good is Incesticide? My favourite at the moment is In Utero.

>>By Sk8a H8a

Incesticide is certainly worth buying, it has a lot of earlier stuff that is not really very deep or stylistically impressive, but it's Nirvana, and all of their albums were great, in my opinion. My favorite Nirvana albums are both Nevermind and In Utero. They are total opposites, but they are both beautiful and have very meaningful lyrics and similiar emotions, just portrayed in different ways.

>>By RaveOnCaroline

Umm screw the retards in spin magazine who think they know good muisc. They posted an article of "Bands that their first album sucked" or something like that. They put Nirvana in there!!!!!!! In my opinion "BLEACH" is their BEST ALBUM!!! Fucking, Negative Creep, Paper Cuts, blew, floyd the barber, they all kick ass!!!!!!!

>>By Machine_of_Undertow

Well, Bleach is my second favourite Nirvana album. School is a truly awesome song, but they all rock.

>>By Flake 1.6

yeah, school's cool, but it's not my fav. Fear Factory does a cover of School on their new album "archetype" or something like that, I haven't heard it yet though, honestly i', a big FF fan but their first single sucks so i'm probally not gonna get the album.
