I guess your statement would be right, if Nirvana would have been big only after the death of Kurt.... but since they became big out of the blue with Smells like teen spirit I think your statement is a bit bold. They made the music a very big group wanted to hear in 1992.. I believe that this might have been the last time till now that music escaped from the hands of commerce, just for a little while... Maybe later, during In Utero people where interested in Nirvana for Kurt Cobain, but at that moment they were already the biggest thing happening. And that had nothing to do with how to looked, how they lived. It was for what the music stood for, at least for me...
I think that "my generation", was sick of the over produced 80ties disco, the over commercialized boyband (take that), the too flashy hard rock and the upcoming house and therefor were very atracted to this pure music, which came straight from the heart and wasn't created by some suits (as was loads of popular music at the end of the eighties and beginning nineties - and now again). The big business reacted very quickly, by throwing all these bands on the market we now refer to as grunge and there destroyed this contramovement, so they could take over again. AND NOW THEY ARE IN TOTAL CONTROLE AGAIN......

Just my theory... and I do think I could be just paranoia.......

I guess you're right...

>>By idontknowdotcom23   (Tuesday, 20 Apr 2004 14:24)

In fact, you know you're right! Sorry, terrible pun.
It sucks that every time a good, original band becomes popular, big record labels copy their style with a load of rip-offs. 'twas Nirvana who led to the pop-poser-punk trail of Green Day, Blink 182, SUM 41, Simple Plan and Good Charlotte. By now there are so many bands "inspired" by one another who all lead back to Nirvana. But none of them have anything like the original energy, talent or belief. There are probably some bands who really are inspired by Nirvana and write good songs, but I imagine none will ever capture the true genius of Kurt Cobain ever again.

very true sk8 h8 but even though this is totally irrelevant GREEN DAY IS NOT A POP POSER PUNK :)

Pressing pause fucks up your cds after a while, and i never said i had tried it the bathroom thing, i only suggested it, how many chicks do you know that send 20 minutes in the bathroom?? In these days of equal opportunity and stuff, they had to cater for everyone i guess.

i get on this sight from time to time to see if anyone has somthing relivant to talk about. i'm still waiting. i'm really glad that most the people that are on this page like nirvana. they did alot of good for music. but i got to say most the people that write their opinions on here are talking out of their ass. there was one idiot that said you know you're right was a suicide note to his daughter. lets stop analyzing shit we know nothing about alright.

>>By aaron m. spears   (Tuesday, 20 Apr 2004 21:23)

true squire. aaron m. spears, it was just a suggestion about what the song might be about... no need to get stressy

>>By idontknowdotcom23   (Wednesday, 21 Apr 2004 00:00)

Hey if people didnt analyze and bullshit about stuff they know nothing about, what state of affairs would the media industry be in?? Without media you would never hear half the bands people crap on about in these pages.

happened to look at an previous comment.....you actually think that people listen to nirvana due to kurts death...idontknow?
well i was shocked when i found out after liking nirvana for a year at least .... what had happened to kurt.....and if anything...then that made me look at the music much less exitedly than before...
still a heck of a good band...

>>By HY -   (Saturday, 24 Apr 2004 14:53)

i know they are an amazing band, i was just saying that a lot of people like nirvana but are more inspired by kurts life not that they arent inspired by the music as well! i listened to the music like, a year before i found out that kurt had died and i loved the music but for some reason loved it more after hearing about kurts life...god, dont kill me!

>>By idontknowdotcom23   (Saturday, 24 Apr 2004 16:11)

I just hope there are few people inspired by him shooting himself in the head. It amazes me that he didn't change his style of music or something like that, rather than ending his life to cope with the pain... Personally, I would have written something less popular or simply become a recluse.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Saturday, 24 Apr 2004 23:20)

but i didnt say by his DEATH i said by his LIFE people are inspired by his LIFE :)

HEYY! Im to lazy to read all the Discussons previous from this page, so i am just going to spill my thoughts!! I love Kurt Cobain, but more i love the entire group of Nirvana. The music that they made, was simply amazing! The influences, i agree have been taken to far, and 1/2 of the "bands" that do indeed say that there major influences were Nivrvana lied. I mean what bands have ever said, Sound Garden or Pearl Jam?? They were so close in sound to each other, that i believe Nirvana stuck out so far because of being so commericalized. I am in complete agreenece with anyone who thinks Nirvana was amazing, but i also agree with IF kurt wasn't so popualr, would he have killed himself? I believe that with fame, comes torture, and he should have known that. And i would also like to get my point across and back up idontknowdotcom that GREEN DAY ARE NOT POP PUNK POSERS!!!...at all!!

>>By BRIANNA   (Sunday, 25 Apr 2004 04:11)

wow i agree with pretty much everything you said there :) especially the last line green day kick ass :) cool

>>By idontknowdotcom23   (Sunday, 25 Apr 2004 15:55)

Most bands who say "One of our biggest influences is Nirvana; they're like, so inspiring," are lying. Of course, some bands really are infulenced/inspired by Nirvana, but most of these liars are just saying so because they know Nirvana are accepted as a great modern band and if they say they were influenced by them, they'll get credibility. Actual pop bands don't associate themselves with Nirvana. However, Kylie Minogue, a pop singer, did at one point (when Nirvana were at their zenith [unless that was the start of this month] in the early 90s) try to be grunge. It was disastrous for her. I wouldn't say "Green Day are not pop-poser-punks at all". They are, slightly. They started off the pop-poser-punk trail and are therefore pop-poser-punks, although less so than those bands which followed them.
Nirvana, my eighth favourite band, are not commercialized. They're just better. Pearl Jam are my 21st favourite band and I've never heard of Sound Garden. Are they at all similar? I won't deny that Pearl Jam are grunge, but they're not like Nirvana. Their lyrics actually make sense! I suppose I'd like Nirvana's lyrics less if they weren't so cryptic. Cryptic lyrics are always fun to listen to and try to decode. Okaeey, so maybe I'm really sad or I just like a challenge.
I don't think Kurt really believed he couldn't handle the fame... I know it hurts to be famous, even though my fame only consists of being introduced to people and them saying "Ah, so you're Rog'er," or getting fanmail from people I barely know. I don't get random people asking me for my autograph - well, not often. But this fame doesn't stop me writing new songs and going for more fame. I imagine Kurt felt the same when he was at my level of fame. However, he was dedicated and didn't give up because of the pain. Well, he did eventually. But he took the hard road and kept going until he couldn't stand living any more. I wonder how things would have been if he hadn't been on heroin. Would he A) never have been famous? B) Killed himself earlier? C) Gone insane? D) Survived? E) Something else..?

>>By Sexylou   (Sunday, 25 Apr 2004 22:16)

Good, classic rock music :)

>>By Eliene   (Monday, 26 Apr 2004 12:06)

Brianna you should have read the previous pages........ then you would have have retained from some of your comments....

>>By Campking   (Monday, 26 Apr 2004 18:48)

And maybe Sexylou should have read the previous page - we've exhausted the whole "Courtney killed Kurt" thing and agreed that she's innocent. Didn't we? I think she is.
I was playing "Scentless Apprentice" really loudly earlier to get my mother to leave the room. Is there anyone else here who thinks that is the coolest song on In Utero? I also love "Rape Me", "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle", "All Apologies" and "Heart-Shaped Box".

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Monday, 26 Apr 2004 21:20)

Nirvana r definitely amongst the best bands. There rnt many bands that can still b popular 10 years after they stop making music and as this site shows nirvana r still very popular. Also they have managed to cross the generation gap which is not something that many bands r able 2 do. They r 1 of the few bands that both me and my dad feel equally passionate about

>>By fish4ever   (Monday, 26 Apr 2004 23:53)

(Almost My whole disscussion is directed towrds Sk8a H8a) I know, i should have deffinetly read the previos pages, and yet...i am still to lazy! Well, i guess i should go back after i post this and read your disscussions about Courtney NOT killing kurt? I am 100% possitive, in my head really that Kurt Cobain was murdered by either a "Hit-Man" set up from, Courtney Love, and If not her, then a very dear friend of hers. Now please don't kill me about that. I will read about that one, Now I am suprised that you have never heard of SoundGarden, they came about before Nirvana did, but my feelings towards them are grunge-ish indeed! I am going to agree with you about his lyrics being hmm difficult to understand, but i mean i come from a similar past as Kurt's. The thoughts that run through my head do not always make sence either, and i think that is the greatest thing about Kurt. His Lyrics go from being soo child-ish (Sliver) to so Cold and Depressing (Heart-Shaped Box) and that is the amazing thing about him. I also want to ask you, now are you sure Kurt starting using Heroin before he did indeed get famous? I was lead to believe he starting using it soon before his stomache problems!! Now also, I take it you have a band? The thing is, Kurt wasn't about being famous, I mean I don't blame his for signing with a more popualr and wealthier lable, but soon after Touring so much and recieving SOO much money, i believe he lost interest...to a certain extent. Without Herion...I think Kurt would still be dead, with out Courtney? That's an entire differnet story.

>>By BRIANNA   (Tuesday, 27 Apr 2004 01:43)

cool and very true brianna what you said about how kurt would probably still be dead even if it werent for courtney, good point :) sexylou, yeah i read the uncut magazine thing :)

>>By idontknowdotcom23   (Tuesday, 27 Apr 2004 18:40)

Yeah; I'm in a band. That's why I'm quasi-famous. But I'm not doing it for fame. Fame sucks. I'm doing it because I enjoy it and I'd like for people to hear my songs. If I could do it anonymously, that might be better, but people would still be listening to these songs and enjoying MY music. Being famous and unknown almost as bad as being normally famous.
Courtney didn't kill him. Shut up about that, for crying out loud! Of course he'd be dead if it weren't for her - she did not bring about his death.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Tuesday, 27 Apr 2004 21:48)

I don't think courtney killed Kurt, if u have ever read the speech she made after he died u'll see its not the type of thing some1 would say if they had murdered the person they were talking about, or at least i dont think so. So Sk8a H8a whats ur band called?
