Hmm... I just bought this Finnish mag and they gave me a Ville Valo-keyholder or whatever that is in English... and a quite big Ville Valo-poster... his bare feet are quite pretty. I'm probably going to donate this stuff to my cousin though...

>>By scarletnikki (Tuesday, 10 May 2005 21:50)
If it's only as new as I think, he looks well unrecognisable
>>By Sk8a H8a (Wednesday, 11 May 2005 23:53)
Wow, now I've seen everything. And been called a bum by some goth kid who thinks Him are better than Nine Inch Nails. God knows why everyone on here loves Him so much, but they really are just another cheap little 'look at us we wear white makeup' band with hardly any fans over the age of sixteen, whereas Nine Inch Nails are one of the best bands in the world. Everything VIlle Valo does, Trent does better. No actually, everything Ville Valo does, Trent doesn't do at all 'cos it sucks.
>>By Flagg (Thursday, 12 May 2005 20:22)
Oh yeah and let's not forget those goth fans who pretend to be depressed ;) ;)
>>By Flagg (Thursday, 12 May 2005 20:22)
well I am a goth and have been for more years than I care to admit. Its been about 2 years since ville wore white make-up!! their music is superior to any other band currently in existence, ville can't help the fact he ain't ugly!
>>By scarletnikki (Friday, 13 May 2005 15:45)
Oh Flagg,
please don't compare NIN and HIM! They're from different genres and the only thing in common with them is that Trent and Ville both make most of the music for the band to play and they both are drop dead good-looking and have united different music genres for something their very own. I like both of the bands and can't say which one is better cos they're not that alike, except the themes of the songs are melancholy. NIN is also more political than HIM, actually, whereas HIM is not political at all besided both of the bands have payed their dues for music industry so they deserve all the success. Please don't act like an old jealous bitter know-it-all metalhead, HIM do have older fans too, especially in Finland.
"Oh yeah and let's not forget those goth fans who pretend to be depressed ;) ;)"
Who's sick enough to PRETEND being depressed?
>>By Catri (Saturday, 14 May 2005 11:06)
Goths, mostly.
The other big difference is that NIN are alot more sincere.
>>By Flagg (Saturday, 14 May 2005 14:40)
Nine Inch Nails aren't political at all.
And it doesn't matter that they're from different genres.
>>By Flagg (Saturday, 14 May 2005 14:44)
I think those "pretenders of depression" are goffs or wannabe-goths, not any of those who really are carried away by the gothic life style... and who says they've gotta be depressed at all? I think one can listen to melancholic music and wear black without being that depressed. If just happens to like the melodies or something or am I just living in a little bit different world than you guys?
Well, doesn't NIN's latest single have this little hidden political message or what? and what about the song "Starfucker"?
"And it doesn't matter that they're from different genres"
It does.
>>By Catri (Saturday, 14 May 2005 16:50)
you don't have to be depressed to be into goth stuff, i am a really happy person, however everyone has "down" days or has been in love and villes music relates to that.
>>By scarletnikki (Saturday, 14 May 2005 20:44)
See. Ville's music relates (in a pretty bland way) to something everyone already knows about.
Trent Reznor is sincere, he's had a really *really* hard life, I don't mean down days here and there like Ville's music, as you point out, relates to. I mean he's been addicted to tons of different drugs and been *seriously* depressed for *extended periods*. Reznor has the ability to just take the bad things that have happened to him and turn it into really good music, and unique music. Because unlike HIM, Nine Inch Nails are literally the ONLY band capable of doing what they do. Marylin Manson owes his whole career to Reznor, but he went for the gothic biblical metal sound rather than industrial electro-rock or whatever you call it and slow haunting piano melodies, because he knew he couldn't do what Trent does. And it doesn't matter that they're from different genres because that wasn't my point. My point is that Nine Inch Nails have a genre of their own whereas HIM sound like pretty much every other goth band I've ever heard. I mean I really never understood how people can bear to listen to a band that doesn't sound unique.
And Starfuckers Inc. is about popstars, I don't see anything political there.
>>By Flagg (Saturday, 14 May 2005 21:02)
I personally don't know any other band who sound like him or have the same quality . as far as I am concerned they are unique, I can see where their influences come from and its not modern music or really, other goth bands. You don't have to have had a hard life to be a brilliant writer and musician, its what comes from the soul, and villes music is incredible. I don't need to criticise any other band to make my point, if you prefer someone elses music .....cool.
>>By scarletnikki (Sunday, 15 May 2005 14:05)
I'm glad you take that attitude, it's very mature, but I still stand by everything I said.
>>By Flagg (Sunday, 15 May 2005 14:28)
MMMM, ok, I'm going to jump into a Ville Valo/HIM discussion, but I'm not going to be negative about it this time :P Although I participated a lot of times in senseless discussions about the looks of Ville Valo and his bi-sexuality (and enjoyed it very much :P), I actually don't care anymore. HIM's latest album has become more mature so did I. Let HIM make their music. And according to the 58 pages on this forum a lot of people seem to appreciate it.
scarletnikki ==>> If you want to listen to more romantic/dark metal like HIM, try Entwine or Divercia. Especially Divercia is more well eh... diverse, but Entwine is more like HIM. Both bands should be checked out by HIM-fans.
>>By Waddinxslayer (Sunday, 15 May 2005 14:58)
"And Starfuckers Inc. is about popstars, I don't see anything political there."
As far as I know anything releated to society is political. Political doesn't only mean that you write a song about George W. Bush, it's about writing about something that concerns a large group of people is wrong (I know how to say this simply in Finnish but after losing my dictionary I can't explain a thing clearly in English, fuck)
and by the way, there's still no other band labelling themselves 'love metal' so HIM is unique. And I'm sorry to say that Trent's been influenced as well, he hasn't created his sound from nothing...
>>By Catri (Sunday, 15 May 2005 19:38)
thanx waddingxslayer i will give them a listen. flagg.. everyone is entitled to their opinion, none of my friends like him, but we stay friends! all music is influenced from something, at least h.i.m. stand out from the mediocrity that is chart music and are more listenable than a lot of metal stuff.
