I find the music of HIM to be uninteresting as well - a similar group such as Entwine sounds much better to my opinion.

Please lets not do this again. We have had the gay/not gay discussion thing so many times already and we never come to a conclusion. Doesn't matter anyway, the music is still brilliant and ville is still gorgeous either way.

Well, ladies and gentleman, let's come to a point:
For a long time now I observe a strange phenomenom in the fan scene of HIM. The fans of HIM (or Ville Valo) are far more fanatic than fans of other bands. I was able to observe some similarities with Timo Kotipelto (also a Finnish band, although much better quality, hehe) but the level of fan enthousiasm of the HIM fans exceeds all limits. I can prove this with the fact that you can see 50 pages of text that can be described best as a absolute unusual vast quantity of incomprehensible expressions of support. (see above) One fan I know is even willing to become a necrophil in case she was not be able to fuck Ville Vallo before his death. But what's so special about this man (or woman???), or is it real the high standard of the band as a whole? This leaves me to introduce two theses:
1. The band is of an extraordinary quality and deserves this amount of fan support.
2. There are more women lesbian than the world thinks there are.
I am able to reject the first these quite easily. Nothing is special on HIM. Ok, they have some nice songs, but is it really that worth have sex with a death man?? No, try Emperor, Dream Theater or in jazz world, Marcus Miller, to name a few. These man show musical quality. You can better pay some respect to them.
The second these is more likely. When I heard the first time of HIM I thought the singer was a female. The opposite turned out to be true. I found this very strange. Why should women like males who look like females? This these was emphasized by the fact that I was able to observe more of this cases, for example the way females pay attention to the French gay-metallers Anorexia Nervosa. They look like females and they act like females (lying on each other's body's)
This brings me to a rather disturbing conclusion that much more women are lesbian than previously known.

Oh I love Anorexia Nervosa! And I don't want to have sex with Ville. I just like his voice in some songs and the lyrics. The music is also onderful.

Waddinxslayer - Okay, I get why you think that it is strange that so many 'straight' women like Ville Valo when he does often look like a girl. But all women have different preferences, some like guys who look like girls even when they don't like girls!! To put your theory into practise, it means that most of the young female population of Japan are lesbians. I've read a hell of a lot of mangas and I've come to the conclusion that the most desireable male to young Japanese girls is the most feminine. Personally, I think Ville Valo is hot but if I knew he was a woman I would probably not fancy him. And I really don't think I'm a closet lesbian. It's just the way I feel. I'm sure there's some deep psychological reason for it but I don't really care... I just think he's hot.
And with regards to what you said about HIM fans being unusually overly obsessive about a band that does not nessecarily deserve it - what about Westlife, Boyzone, Backstreet Boys, N*Sync and all those other boybands with quite a large totally obsessed fanbase.
It happens, people have different opinions on what 'deserves' obsessive devotion.... We all have different tastes and that's what makes life interesting. If we didn't then all music would be the same and it would get very very boring....
And I think HIM deserves it more than all them bands anyway, wouldn't you agree... ?
Oh and Hexagot, what do you know you condescending asshole?
Also, I don't really get the whole "is Ville gay?" thing. Sure, no harm in just wondering.... But people seem to think it would be something terrible if he was.... Does it really matter?! It's not going to effect their music.
And anyway, he has a girlfriend... ;)

In which song VV sounds like a girl?!! I love this band most of all his deep dark voice!And I don't think HIM has more obsessive fans than other bands, not only Backstreet boys, let's take The Beatles, Rolling Stones...
In every kind of music there is/was a gay or bisex - from pop, rock to black metal. I like Queen, I listen George Michael or Elton John and I don't think if they are/were gays!!! And their sex preferences are the last thing for me to criticize. SO STOP THIS STUPITIDIES!!!
And talking about japan groups, check any site about japan Indies and rock groups, find their pictures... then start to talk if they are normal or not ^_^.

ville said in an interview once that the whole band was bisexual with out any male experiences , that they had love for males and females , any thing with beauty , just they love for each in different ways
