i love this band, but id just like to say they are NOT the new HIM. in the shadows is a good song but its kind of annoying how thats the only song everybody knows.... haha lauri (thats his name right?) is hot....

I cannot stand this band, i dont know what it is about them that repulse me, yet attract everyone else so much. Perhaps it's that ive heard their songs way too many times ( album was released in russia about 4-5 months ago and their songs got so much air time i felt like exploding).

i don't know, they just don't seem to have anything special.

rasmus are really gd and i don't usually go 4 rock bands
they are so different
they deserve where they got it the uk charts
(numba 3, 4 people or don't know, mcfly are still numba 1)

Well, if its original artists you're looking for, that's not really a big stumbling block if you've got time to search for good original music.

I have to give them credit because they managaed to break into Europe which is probably damn hard if your Finnish, but just cause they are popular does not automatically guarantee their greatness as artists, or vice versa.

Anyways, about my previous statement. In the hope of not getting death letters from some hyper fan or something, um its not really that i hate them, i mean i just consider their music mediocre (and for me, l;istening to mediocre music is pretty hard). And also I hate Lauri Ylönen's voice especially in the "In the shadows" single. It just pisses me off. A guy going for high notes, now that, does not require a good voice, but emotion and the right song, and in my opinioin, that song was just way too wrong, and i'm an impulsive judge so, yeah.

>>By shmoe   (Thursday, 15 Apr 2004 16:20)

What high notes? There are no really high notes in "In The Shadows". Personally I love this song and can't get it out of my head, hence the reason I'm going to buy the single. the fact that they got to number 3 proves that they are pop rock rather than rock/pop. Sorry, but that's true and there IS a difference. If you want to hear really high notes, try The Darkness. They're rock/pop. McFly suck.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Thursday, 15 Apr 2004 18:16)

haha sk8a h8a yeah mcfly suck..... there aren't any high notes in the rasmus' music.... i hate labelling music because nothing ever fits perfectly into a category so lets not all get into this pop rock/pop debate..... it isnt worth time

>>By idontknowdotcom23   (Thursday, 15 Apr 2004 19:50)

i thot they were okies...now i wish they didnt exist...they suk....their stoopid shadows song suks....they are pop....they are shit...io want them to be no longer...HIM are much better!...
peace

i think goddess should begin to get used to that not completely everybody are into ville so much...
rasmus is toleratable too...well in very small amounts...

>>By HY...   (Thursday, 15 Apr 2004 21:40)

Haha, I listen to "In the Shadows" about 10 times per day. Probably more, but I don't want to sound like I'm exaggerating... It really is a very addictive song! However, Funeral Song isn't very good. Whatever - I don't think they're as good as HIM but they are still cool.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Thursday, 15 Apr 2004 23:01)

"In the Shadows" is a popular because it's fun and catchy. It has a very sexy bassline. "Funeral Song", on the other hand, is rather depressing, like HIM's music. That's why I say it's a rip-off of "Funeral of Hearts".

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Friday, 16 Apr 2004 14:51)

I really don't know what's "HIM"(don't hit me!) but the rasmus is great. Funeral song is the best (I think), just because I like that stile, like "depressing".

>>By Maggy   (Saturday, 17 Apr 2004 10:01)

HIM is another Finnish band, called His Infernal Majesty. Some depressing songs are already, but I never really got into Funeral Song.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Saturday, 17 Apr 2004 13:07)

a load of try-hards like HIM, so i haven't really wanted to find out much more about them. When i went on german exchange last year, my partner had the Rasmus's album and played it non-stop so i might buy it just to remind me of my experiences in Germany. Whoever said the songs all sound the same was right, but still, they are quite catchy (in a good way)!!

>>By panic_is_blue   (Saturday, 17 Apr 2004 18:58)

Rasmus rules!

>>By Maggy   (Sunday, 18 Apr 2004 06:45)

i like the rasmus in the shadows is a gd song
but i have 2 stand by mcfly and that song rules
but the rasmus song is brill
(don't hit me)

>>By unearthed_jellybelly   (Sunday, 18 Apr 2004 16:52)

*hits you* McFly suck. The Rasmus rock. But I can understand how you'd make the connection between the two of them. McFly are a rip-off of Busted, who suck. The Rasmus are a minor rip-off of HIM, who are cool.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Sunday, 18 Apr 2004 18:42)

i like rasums *rubs head*
bu ti like mcfly aswell

>>By unearthed_jellybelly   (Tuesday, 20 Apr 2004 11:44)

At least McFly aren't as bad as Busted. To tell the truth, I was tempted to buy their single. But I didn't, because I came to my senses.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Tuesday, 20 Apr 2004 16:50)

>>By your sweet 666 godess   (Tuesday, 20 Apr 2004 18:01)

u should of bought the mcfly single its brill
mcfly are brill
but i love busted
and the rasmus are my 3rd fave band

>>By unearthed_jellybelly   (Tuesday, 20 Apr 2004 18:19)

has anyone else noticed that ville valo has 32 pages altogether and rasmus only have 2....makes me smile.....rasmus have just become noticed and its quite fun how HIM have been popular for ageeees

>>By your sweet 666 godess   (Tuesday, 20 Apr 2004 18:34)

Just because they're not like HIM doesn't mean they suck. Linkin Park are not like HIM and they totally rock. Just because people say the Rasmus are like HIM doesn't mean that a failure to be exactly the same is a true failure. They kick ass in their own way. People like the band because they're original and unlike HIM, have original and identifiable subject matter for their lyrics. I'm not saying that writing loads of songs about the tragedy of love is necessarily a bad thing, but people appreciate variety.
HIM may well be unique, but the Rasmus have style.
Um, no that's not funny. The reason the Rasmus have a NORMAL number of pages on their discussion is that their music attracts sane fans, rather than losers who post pointless messages just to add an extra page to the discussion. The Rasmus haven't been around as long as HIM, either. It took HIM over 5 years to become internationally recognised - the Rasmus haven't even been singing in English for that long.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Tuesday, 20 Apr 2004 19:57)

talk about some people doing english essay
the rasmus are more heard off now
coz i usually check the chart run down and ive never seen HIM in there at all

>>By unearthed_jellybelly   (Friday, 23 Apr 2004 17:11)

heylo unearthered_jellybelly....HIM are much more heard of than the rasmus...trust me....HIM are the number one band in quite a few countries in europe....and to sk8a h8a yeah erm ville does always write songs about his love life....but that is part of the beauty....read all his lyrics...follow the story of his love and loss....feel his pain feel his happieness....relate to him....that is what i do....unlike the rasmus...in the shadows...it doesnt mean anything to anyone....

>>By your sweet 666 godess   (Friday, 23 Apr 2004 17:30)

HIM may be popular in Europe, but not so much in Britain. The Rasmus are more famous here at the moment. Maybe next time HIM release an album, it'll make them more popular than the Rasmus, but that's probably not going to happen anyway. By then, I predict that the Rasmus will be way more popular anyway. It just hurts you to admit that the Rasmus have had a bigger impact with the British people than HIM did.
Come on, you can't REALLY relate to Ville's love life. The songs are all about tragic love. I don't honestly believe Ville ever asked anyone to die with him (as I said, my favourite song is Join Me) and pretty much everything he sings about is a cliche.
As for In the Shadows: it DOES have a meaning. To me it suggests being stuck out of sight, in the shadows of other people who are putting you down. "Id' rather kill myself than be their slave" - ain't that a cool lyric?

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Friday, 23 Apr 2004 18:38)

i actually dont think tht is a great lyric....yeah i admit tht rasmus have made a bigger impact on people here in britain...id be lying if i sed they hadnt....but HIM have made a bigger impact on my life than wot rasmus ever could!
lol....join me (in death)....isnt about ville...one of the very few songs that isnty actually.....as ville said....he wanted to write a modern day romeo and juliet song.....its not one of my favourites.....i think its an amazing song...but they have many better ones.....i am not proud to say that it has been known for a person in their teens to kill themselves under the influence of join me...and it hurts ville when people mention it to him.....but yeah that happened a couple of years ago which is one of the reasons i think this isnt one of the better songs and ville agrees!!!
sowwie i forgot i was on the rasmus page...sowwie for talkin all bout HIM and ville!!!.....im away to the ville valo page to write some stuff there now
toodles

>>By your sweet 666 godess   (Friday, 23 Apr 2004 18:46)

Well ive never heard of HIM
untill the people on a message im part of mention it
and no offence godess but u spelt my name wrong

>>By unearthed_jellybelly   (Friday, 23 Apr 2004 22:02)

Wow, you've never heard of HIM?? I heard of them way before I heard of the Rasmus... they've been famous for longer, although they're now not as famous, thanks to "In the Shadows".
