i dont think car accident was true... ville said the lyrics are always so "dark" because he is actually very happy man, and he needs to release this "dark" side of him... :D and about selling out... i didnt like that he takes of his shirt every now and then (i mean, he looks good, but that was selling out) and that he is in every magasine where you can find justin timberlake and people like that, but it seems things are geting better now...

How did the sleeve come about?
''I think if you use different tatoo artists to do a sleeve it just ends up looking crap. My idea came after I met this dude and we were drinking a lot. He told me he was a tattooist, as well as guitar player - he actually played in HIM for a while. We got completely wasted and I told him to do this little heart, here on my right wrist, that was my first one. I got it to see how it felt.
''We got drunk again a week later and we got the idea to do the sleeve, it just came to us. The ornaments were designed by the friend, and all of my tattoos are done by him, but he's moved to Amsterdam. When I get a couple of days off I'll go see him 'cause I want a few more things done
''What I wanted to do was one thing with the whole arm. Originally we planned to do both sleeves and the back but it took such a long time and we were doing our first tour around Europe. I used to be a heavy drinker when I was a bit younger, as did the guy, so we'd drink a lot, listen to Motorhead full volume, do a couple of hours and then end up in the local pub. It took a fucking long time! It was all freehand 'cos around the whole thing you can't draw it out, you just have to do it as it happens. There's a couple of things which we drew and then we just started. I still have to finish it properly but we just haven't had the time. Maybe one day.''
What else have you got?
''The heart on my right wrist, some stuff on my legs, a heartagram on my neck and letter 's' on my chest. I did it as a birthday present for my girlfriend Suzanna but when we fall out of love, as we do every now and then, I claim it's for Satan or whatever starts with an 's'. I got the heart first and then this thing on my stomach above my tiny little pecker. Bam's (Margera) got the same. Then after that I got the sleeve, then my neck, then legs.''
What advice would you give to a tattoo virgin?
''Get to know the artist and then make sure you always use the same one – well I guess it depends what you want. If you want a Japanese sleeve on one arm and then something completely different on the other, then that's ok to use different ones. But if you want simple things in black then use the same guy 'cos everyone does it differently and you can always tell.
''Your tattoos are supposed to eb some connection to your personality. That's a lot more important than going in and just picking one off a wall. I've never understood why people get butterflies tattooed on their bottoms or whatever. That's really weird.''
Where does the inspiration come from for your tattoos?
''Basically the sleeve and the heart are seperate things, but the rest of the stuff has something to do with our album sleeves. On the back of 'Love Metal' there's a thing with two snakes and another heartagram at the top of it and I'm thinking of doing that on my whole back but it takes a long time so I'm trying to sort out my schedule to get to Amsterdam. Then I want to do one more on my stomach saying 'In Vino Veritas' which is Latin for 'In Wine, There's The Truth'. It's a great place to get one too because as I'm drinking it'll get bigger! I'll have this big big beer belly with the 'In Wine, There's The Truth' written on it. That's my next plan. Bam's got a really good new one too actually, on his side. It's heartagrams again with ornaments going up all the way from his hip to nearly his armpit. It's pretty cool. He copied the stomach one from me so it might be that I'm going to copy that one. We'll swap tattoos untill the end!''
How old were you when you got your first one?
''I must have been 18 or 19. I never wanted to just go to a tattoo parlour and pick something off the wall. I always wanted to get to know the guy so he knows who I am and I know who he is. Almost a family thing, I think it's better like that, rather than giving the cash to someone you don't know. You never know what you're going to end up with and it's going to be there a very long time – however good that laser technology is! Maybe if you have a car accident… it can be done.
''My dad has a little tiny one on his arm, and he always said, 'don't ever get pictures of cookies',as he calls them. In Finland especially the convicts and sailors used to have that stuff and back in the 60s it was really hard to get a job if you had a tattoo. I think it's the same everywhere in the world now, it's more respected. You used to not be able to get a loan from a bank if you had a tattoo. Imagine what the retirement home's going to look like with all of us lot in there!''

Sk8a h8a you are a 100 percent right, they have let the music get to there head, there live performances suck now compared to the razorblade romance and greatest love songs vol 666 days,and i no because i have concerts from those dayz, i think that all this preasure and constant touring will break this band up before next year, and ville valo said in a german magazine and that after there next album there breaking up, just think what shit thats going to cause, if they break up they mite have angry fans with heartagram's on their wrist or really die hard fans, the band have got so much shit on their shoulders and its honestly put me right off them!! I Still like there songs and stuff but years ago i would of killed for an interview with HIM 2 be in a magazine but now shity magazines have played them out and i am so fucking sick of looking at ville valos face and sk8ers running around in HIM shirts, it defeats the purpose of REAL fans! I honestly think HIM are in deep shit and if they cant think of a way out of their constand touring and commercialism, say goodbye to them! its gunna kill them!!

is it not possible they might just become more popular ,like the rasmus (haha) and do very well commercially? this might not be the same band as in R>R> days, but does success = distruction.?I agree they are touring too much ,but some of their recent performances were spot on,depends how drunk Ville is! I agree the whole skate/bam thing is really annoying.

cruel_portrait, who cares if HIM go commercial? who cares how famous they get? if you still like the music, then why should you care that a lot of other people like it too? if they break up, it will be a big shame, but the music is still here so fans will just continue to that... yeah, bam is promoting them all over the place, but isn't that a good thing? that means they are getting the attention they deserve.....

oh my god....i just saw the video for and love said no on tv and it is the best damn him video!! well not the best but its the best one that bam directed (he did direct it, right?) well its amazing anyway..and it was the first time i had ever heard that song as well and it is now my favorite song and tomorrow, i am going and buying and love said no (the album) because the song is so amazing and i have some extra cash lying around anyway ;) eeeeee ok

HIM cant break up , they gotta be the next Metallica , the next rolling stones and all that stuff , i do think that theyve been blown up by the money but theyre famous , you cant expect then to not be a little different after gettoing money like thta , i hink itll get better as they get a little more used to having more money

Him will be around in, like 30 years like Bowie, and those with heartagram tatts will still be proud, Ville is 27 and only just bought his own appartment, thats not exactly being loaded yet is it? I have never seen any indication that they are big-headed either. People in this country hate success.

Why are Europeans obsessed with this band? I understand why Americans are. It's their love for things that famous ppl like. (i.e. Bam) If thats not the reason Americans are obsessed, it's because the prozac and vallum doesn't fill the 'depression void' like gothic music, excuse me 'love metal' does. Him to me used to be like a great gothic band that barely anyone in the uk and ireland knew, and i was really used to that, I Had a HIM shirt and little mall goths wear calling me gay for having a heartagram on my back because it wasnt a pentagram! now every1 is wearing them!! for like 3 years i was used to the old HIM, i just cant take sk8ers running around in HIM shirts and 100's of people in my town wearing there gear, when they no fuck all!!! on the HIM uk site there was videos from there sighning and people were asking them how 2 say ville valos name!! and there was all these people in CKY shirts and bam and element shirts! i know you all like HIM but do u people not get annoyed by this or are you all just new fans????

i actually heard of bam margera because of ville... i never watched mtv or jackass before i heard that hes the guy directing him videos, and then i found out who he is.. .and bam is kind aannoying, but if ville dont mind it ... but i do get annoyed by people that think heartagram is bams sign!! and trust me, there are that kinda people... i heard about him 5 years ago, and i liked them right away (i was 10 then ... heh ... good for me) ...

I Wasnt aiming what i said at any1 in particular, its obvious people are taking HIM's popularity diffrently than you, and if you can take it then........good for you, but i on the other hand dont like to see good music go into the hands of idiots, it doesent bother me that people that liked bam and cky got into HIM threw them, thats a good thing because they get more fans because they deserve it, but i mean there are people out there that fucking buy heartagram shirts because all the rest of the sk8ers do, does that not bother you?? i find it hard to believe that a HIM fan doesent mind people making idiots of themselfs and making HIM look like a bam margera sponser!, example i drew on a heartagram on my schoolbag last year, and i was waiting in line to go to class and a bunch of 1st years are like o my god!!!! you have bam margeras symbol, and i corrected them by saying no its HIM the bands symbol and then there like what? thats bams, and thats happened to me several times and it is incredibly annoying!!!! and I know its none of my buisness what people listen 2, i didnt say it was but it is my buisness when i wear a HIM shirt and i am aproached with a sk8er saying o do you like bam margera, and its my buisness to correct him, I just cant deal with that shit, and i dont no who the hell to blame HIM or bam, and ontop of all this i really didnt like HIM love metal at all compared to there older albums, i just think the whole world of HIM has been turned upside down!

well Ville doesn't seem to mind Bams use of the heartagram after all,bam has even copied Ville's tattoos. Ithink what cruel portrait might mean is , your identity is linked to the music/band you like, and , if you perceive' uncool' people , wearing that symbol it makes you not wanna be a part of it. Ive liked HIM for a few years now and they have changed but most god musicians do ,or they don't last. my personal opinion is that Bam seems a bit idiotic....but who am I to say

well you don't know bam personally, so you wouldnt know why ville thinks bam is "cool" because you are not friends with bam and you do not know him! therefore you can not question why somebody is friends with him... ville is bam's idol and he is lucky enough to be friends with his idol....yes bam has helped them become much bigger and yes he has helped them make more money (because their fanbase has grown because of him) and it is possible that part of the reason of their friendship is that they help eachother out with publicity and stuff... ville valo doesnt mind that some fucking skater stole his heartagram because they are FRIENDS and they LIKE EACHOTHER...if that makes sense...

i like bams idea on life , ya know mix it up a bit , make it all fun , but it sux that i see heartagrams all over my school and the only people that know it as anything other tyhan "bams symbol" are the people ive freakin told , i was so used to being the only person last year even wearing heartagrams , now kids actually have him shirts saying HIM and having heartagrams , and i tell them , its not bams , and they still think it is , the only good thing i could see from HIM becoming bigger is that more people would actually no what the heartagram is , but im going to miss them being like a smaller th9oing only some people knew about . i hate the fact bam screwed it all up , but i mean bam and ville are freinds , its okay with ville if bam does this crap , but i think bam is using ville and his popularity to make money , and i hate that .
