You really should listen to the version of Cash. It is on one of the Solitary man Series, if I am not wrong Solitary man volume one, but don't stick me to that one......

>>By Campking   (Monday, 23 Feb 2004 23:52)

i think solitary man cover is really good!
villes voice is so interesting and he did many covers like after billy idol:rebel yeal and after chris isaak:wecked game and i think frozen after madonna{this song i didnt listen}

>>By cora2003   (Tuesday, 24 Feb 2004 23:26)

i think that in some manner covers are goos cause u can show to the world u can sing songs that are not made exacly for ure type of voice

>>By cora2003   (Tuesday, 24 Feb 2004 23:27)

Or you can show the world you can only score with other peoples songs.. (Not saying that this is the case with HIM, but) loads of bands cover because their own material isn't good enough....

>>By Campking   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 00:58)

lots of bands that just start made covers, cause people will listen to the cover of good song, if they liked original, so it made this band on #1 charts position, and then when they do their own stuff they're not completely unknown... but him does great covers and originals...

>>By iva212   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 14:56)

I agree iva212!And i think that HIM sing the songs better than the original singer! I heard the original wicked game and dont fear the reaper and it was discusting!

>>By angel-like-girl   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 16:49)

If you ever say such a thing about a classic like Wicked game again, you will send yourself to hell...
The original Wicked Game (Chris I) is much better.

>>By Campking   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 17:10)

I actually have don't fear the reaper... it's awful... it's like happy song, and like those christmas song... and i heard wicked game, but only once... it doesn't suck, but him version is better... depends on tastes, i guess

>>By iva212   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 18:29)

i think originals are always better than covers... because the original was made exactly for that artists voice. wicked game is a great song but i like the original better :) oh well its just opinion :) i think its really wrong to get famous off of somebody elses song. this one girl...oh her name slipped my mind, joss something.... she's really famous in england off of a song called "fell in love with a boy" and its a cover off of the white stripes "fell in love with a girl" (except, obviously, they changed the "girl" to "boy") and its so wrong because nobody knows that the white stripes wrote it... oh well.... i hope that the white stripes get SOME credit for the song

>>By idontknowdotcom23   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 19:43)

hey it is not wrong to cover someone elses songs
about wicked game him made a rock cover and because some of us love rock we apreciated this version more but is the credit of the composer and he can sel his songs to anyone probably the studio payed lots of money to the writer so dont get worried cause here is about bussines and money
and lucky that ville has a great voice
covers are made after elvis and sounds like house music and who likes house now can apreciate elvis song in diffrent manner
covers doesnt mean that u cant sing or compose mabe for some artists to cover is like a test if they get nr one than they are good enough
and ville made solitary man after many albums so hes known and still covers music it is nothink wrong with that

>>By cora2003   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 21:24)

ah to cover is an honor for the writer cause hes song is still out thereeven after so many years
look elvis is dead but still seling songs
if him were making just covers than were somethink else but every vocalists if they cant compose for themselfs than they hierd an writer for that

>>By cora2003   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 21:29)

depends on tastes, i guess

And age! I grew up with the original, heard that first. and hardly ever someone who heard an other version first (especially when it's the original) thinks that the later heard versions can reach the first heard version. I hardly ever like covers, sometimes they are done well, but for me, when I kow the original they never reach the level of the original.

There are few artists who for me made a song better by covering it. Him for that case for me isn't one of them. Especially not in the case of Wicked game.

>>By Campking   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 21:53)

good point Campking. cora2003, i didnt say it was WRONG to cover songs, i said its wrong to get famous off of one. well without the original artist gteting the credit they deserve.

Lets stop arguing and agreeing because its driving me mad!Lets talk about something else like...I dont know...Someone say something!

>>By angel-like-girl   (Thursday, 26 Feb 2004 21:10)

hey him was well known in finland without covers and ofcourse they try to extend thats why they sing in english too
u now how difficult is to be apreciated in europe if u sing in ure language!!!!!
luky that u didnt say every people should sing in they own languages!!!!
im from romania and today one of our grup of rock coverd patience from guns n roses they boght the rights!!!
and im ok with that

>>By cora2003   (Thursday, 26 Feb 2004 21:55)

guns n roses coverd knoking on havens door fom bob dylan id say its better then the orriginal
then avril lavignie coverd the same song in now days and id say its bad cover
him coverd from rod stewart the song first cut is the deepest witch is good in both ways and sharyl crow coverd now the same song no comment on her cauze she has a good voice too
everybody covers songs and is nothing wrong with that

>>By cora2003   (Thursday, 26 Feb 2004 21:59)

and im no fighting on that with anyone i just expres my feeling my opinion!!!

>>By cora2003   (Thursday, 26 Feb 2004 22:01)

Sorry, but I don't agree on the comment on the cover of The First cut is the deepest. First of all it is not a Rod stewart song, but it is a Cat Stevens song. Meaning Rod Stewart already did the cover. And since I think that version sucks I can't believe that the HIM version is any better (you put them on the same line, so there is not much hope for that)..
And then for the Sheryl Crow version.. I heard it in a shop around Christmas, and got sick to my bones. Compared to the Cat Stevens version it lacks all emotional power the original has, her voice is in no way convincing me and the song doesn't reach me at all..
If you hadn't told me now that there is a Sheryl Crow version I would have kept on believing that some new second rated singer was trying to get famous over the back of a great songwriter. But now you say it is Sheryl Crow, I am a bit surprised. I knew she wasn't th most original thing in the world, but this version of The first Cut still made it posible for me to be dissappointed in her....

Maybe it is my age, or the fact that I know most of the originals of the covers that have been done lately, but believe me: They had better stayed with the original and write another song for these fucked up and bad artists.....

(Btw, Most of the songs Rod Stewart sings are written by other people...)

>>By Campking   (Friday, 27 Feb 2004 00:35)

I do like some covers btw:

One from U2, done by Cash
Into the Groove "from" Madonna by Ciccone Youth (Sonic youth)
Sweet dreams from The Eurithmics (?) by Marilon Manson
Darkness from Will Oldham (B'P'B) by Cash

The mean idea in all these covers is that they turned the songs inside out and made them into songs of their own. And besides they are all really good artists, whom all are probably more covered then they have covered themselves.......

>>By Campking   (Friday, 27 Feb 2004 01:35)

ok we stop talking about covers now....its getting confusing and boring... someone start up a convo....

What can I say about ville? Hmm...When I was 13, I was listening to his music, too. But now I'm a little bit older and I like other things...
I saw him yesterday on TV...I really don't like that new song...and ville is not hot...and HIM is not Gothic..or Gothic Rock or whatever...
