Om btw, the other dutch bands I meant were: Orphanage and The Gathering..... There are more, but their level isn't really great....
Tough look out for a new dutch band, upcoming and starting to tour again this year to promote their new record: Tenk... Yo can listen to some songs on www.tenk.nl or www.tenk.com

Yeah you're probably right about American's dominating with a global chart. But hating America is hating democracy which the western world strives for. That's just how market economy works. Oh well.

Anyway some running commentary while I'm still listening to the album; there's 2 really good bits from Fallen that Amy sings:

1. "You don't remember you, but I remember you"
(not for the lyrics but how she sings it)
&
2. "Don't try and fix me I'm not broken"
(for the lyrics)

>>By ftad   (Wednesday, 3 Mar 2004 09:56)

Er... you don't remember me, but I remember you

I meant, of course.

>>By ftad   (Wednesday, 3 Mar 2004 09:57)

OK my WMP 9 says I've played Fallen 29 times. That's as many times as I've spun Master of Puppets which is sayin something. Thus I have been overanalysing everything.

The more I 'think about it'/'listen to it' the more "My Immortal" sounds like a sardonic Amy Lee prophetic reference to Ben Moody's past disagreements and recent parting.

Although it's not good now, I think the fact Amy and Ben were such different people was really great for the music. Conflict brings out the best in art. It was like Amy was trying to do what she did best (opera singing and being progressive), and Ben was doing what he did best (trying to keep songs structured [chorus-bridge-chorus] and heavy metal).

The other two bits I like are the lines:
"has no one told you she's not breathing?" and when she sings "Christ tourniquet my suicide" at the end of Tourniquet.

Also I noticed the song "Torniquet" merges seamlessly into the next song "Imaginary" as if it's meant to be one song. When not looking at your track numbers it makes you feel likes its one big song with two different keys. Very cool. No other two songs merge like this I don't think.

I really like "My Last Breath" now too. And the solo on "Whisper." Any one of these songs (almost) from this album could be top 40 material.

But hating America is hating democracy which the western world strives for

Best ftad:

This is Bullshit: the current American president was chosen by the highsupremecourt and not by the people, there are several articles about this written in the last 3 years. So please, don't feed me this bullshit...
Besidesd, where do you find the line in my post where I say I hate America! I hate the system where the rich seem to feed on the poor, only to get richer. This is not necessarely said to be america...

The system we have at the moment is just a farce of democracy. There is no real power with the people. But I won't start all this discussion again. Tried to explain all this once before, and then some people started to think I was against America, and probably the closest thing to a terrorist they ahd ever encountered.. I am not, I am a social anarchist, and if you wanna know what that is, look it up in your dictionary..

Sorry for bothering you with this..

>>By Campking   (Wednesday, 3 Mar 2004 22:53)

You're a social anarchist as in you want chaos in society :)?

Well there's gotta be, and can only be one #1 country in the world And today that's the USA whether you accept it or not. If Italy was the superpower Italy would be hated. It's all just tall poppy syndrome IMO.

* * *

Another line I love is in 'My Last Breath' is "I can taste it in your tears"

>>By ftad   (Thursday, 4 Mar 2004 09:05)

Social anarchy doesn't want society to be in disorder.. It wan'ts small democratic communities, comparable to the old greek polis, where everyone is equal and has the same rights. Not a society where money and the market are the criteria for whose in power..

May I ask, #1 in what?
highest dead rate by shutgun kills?, biggest state guilt (in percentage)? Biggest difference between the richest and the poorest?, most teen pregnancies (Again in percentage)? Most money spent on political campagne? Highest percentage of ethnic or colored people on jail? No statal health system?, Highest budget for "defense" (both in percentage as in real time numbers)?
PLease tell me, I am curious..

I don't hate them for the USA are #1, I don't like them because they are wrong, act wrong!

I"I can taste it in your tears" real is a very weak line, which has been used in to many b-country songs to be anywhere near poetic....

>>By Campking   (Thursday, 4 Mar 2004 18:16)

Everyone does have equal rights. Like it or not money and the market ecnomy is how the world runs. There will always be the haves and the have-nots. There is no rich without poor. No poor without rich. What I think you really want is socialm/communism where everyone gets paid the same or whatever. And you've seen what's happened to the former USSR and old China with communism. Doesn't work in practice.

I agree money is the root of many evils. But the only way you're going to stop money being power is by devaluing money. I have a dream one day that we can live in a moneyless society like in Star Trek. Until that day, democracy and money is how things work.

Btw USA is #1 most robust and dynamic economy in the world.

I don't listen to country songs. It's not the lyrics that I just like, it's how she sings "I can taste it in your tears." It's very heartfelt.

>>By ftad   (Thursday, 4 Mar 2004 20:40)

omg..!!!
thats my fave line tooo!!!
llolll..cheers ftad!

>>By listen   (Thursday, 4 Mar 2004 21:07)

China seems to be working fine with communism. The Cold War brought about the collapse of the USSR - that was more like a dictatorship than a state where everyone was equal. If it hadn't been for Stalin becoming premier after Lenin's death, history would have turned out far different. World War Two might never have happened even... I'm getting off the point. Hell, this discussion seems to be turning into a social anarchy!
I like Evanescence a lot - I think that my favourite line would have to be "I held your hand through al of these years", but I really love the whole song "My Immortal". That's definitely the one I love most. I think most of the songs on the album are pretty cool though. One of the earlier songs I love is "Before The Dawn" - anyone who hasn't heard this should check it out.

>>By Flake 1.6   (Thursday, 4 Mar 2004 23:02)

What I think you really want is socialm/communism where everyone gets paid the same or whatever.

No..

That is nothing what I want: USSR were is precisly the opposite of what I say... Read up on Social anarchism, and then come back to me and tell me it is not practically possibe, or the same as communism.. If you would actually know anything about Geopolitics as you claim to be interested in, you would know that Social anarchism, though it has the same root as communism already split with the comminust ideas as early as 1870...

But why did I get my self tempted again to talk geopolitics and filosofy on a site on music..

When you really wanna know something about Social anarchism, you should start with Bakounin, or try some Proudhon....

TOURNIQUET

>>By Sandra-Shania   (Friday, 5 Mar 2004 14:47)

Evanescence are awesome, yeah? I like Amy Lee's voice a lot... By the way, I'm trying to detract from the high-brow discussion which is irrelevant to a low-brow discussion about Evanescence. Big up Evanescence. I used to think Amy Lee was hot but now I prefer Avril Lavigne. I bought the Evanescence album first though. It's much better than some of the modern rubbish in existence...

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Friday, 5 Mar 2004 17:42)

i love what they did for the WWE. amy has an amazing voice but have you heard her in concert? i love evanescence don't get me wrong i hate to say this, but it was like listening to a bleating goat.

>>By ladyvenom_619   (Friday, 5 Mar 2004 17:50)

Oh dear! That rather sucks... I was going to see them in Cardiff (the first concert without Ben Moody) but I couldn't get a ticket to go with my sister. She went instead of me.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Saturday, 6 Mar 2004 02:03)

but have you heard her in concert? i love evanescence don't get me wrong i hate to say this, but it was like listening to a bleating goat.

Yeah I did, and I can do nothing but second that... besides she was wearing a shirt of stained, which ofcourse doesn't give me any positive vibes... but yes, live she doesn't do what she does on the highly produced CD.. to bad, but to be expected, when you listen to the level of production in the sogns.. must have been atleast 25 takes per instrument and 3 weeks of mixing before managing this... and then you can only get live dissapointment (some exceptions take, like Perfect Cirkel -this tour, not the last one and Tool: both high studio production and high live production, maybe that makes the difference)....

LIVE IS WHERE YOU PROVE YOURSELVES TO BE TRUE, AND TRULY GOOD.....

but that is my opinion.................

>>By Campking   (Saturday, 6 Mar 2004 06:49)

Yeah, nobody's ever perfect live. That would defeat the purpose of studios. The trick is to use your imagination when you're at a concert. If you believe they're performing perfectly, it's a little bit better.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Saturday, 6 Mar 2004 17:34)

I've haven't been online for a while Campking :P

1. I don't purport to know everything about geopolitics. I list it as an *interest* saying nothing about knowing every single political system that exists. I don't have a PhD in geopolitics.

2. I didn't say Social Anarchy = Communism. I was saying that since you hate the market economy so much, and the power that comes with money, the most obvious system for you to support would be Communism.

3. (Flake) China: That's why I specifically said "old China." The new China of today is not true Communism. You can get just about any job in China now and get different salaries, and the government doesn't own everything anymore. China is now trading with other countries and becoming more and more a market economy.

4. I hardly know a thing about what happened to USSR. My point is that no Communist government has emerged to be a superpower.

5. Enough about politics. If you like Social Anarchy so much Campking, go start up a political party and get some petitions. I'm not going to bother looking it up because i'd rather just enjoy the choral sounds of Evanescence :).

* * *
OK I like all the songs on 'Fallen' but my current list from favorite to least favorite is:

My Last Breath
Imaginary
Tourniquet
Bring Me to Life
My Immortal
Going Under
Whisper
Haunted
Hello
Taking Over Me
Everybody's Fool

Cheers to all those that love Evanescence.

>>By ftad   (Sunday, 7 Mar 2004 17:39)

To satisfy you:

1) I never said I hated market economy, I just pointed out it only works for a fortunated few. And this fortunate few neverseem to see that the rest of the world is suffering under their good fortune.

2) Communism still has nothing in commen with social anarchism.. I dislike any system that supresses free speech and any otherfredom of people to be theirselves, that's one of the main reasons why I have such a big problem with the North American System (even tough they claim the oposite, there is no true freedom of speech in the USA. How can that be posible when there are only 3 big media concerts which have almost all the media in their hands, and all 3 support the republican party in theirelectorale campagnes).

3) My point is that no Communist government has emerged to be a superpower.

45 years of USSR proves this statement to be wrong. Why else would there have ever been a cold war?!

I advice you to start reading up on some history, before going on with making these blunt statements. Butyou already showed us that you have no interest in that. Fits yourown president, who must still find out where the hell is the rest of the world outside the USA.....

Seriously thinking about quiting this board.. so all ofyou can start breathing again...

BTW: She wore a Staind shirt in the show in 013. For me this is not a good way to get in a positive picture.. But then I defenatly think that the band Staind is one of the most obsolete bands of the decade...

3)

>>By Campking   (Monday, 8 Mar 2004 03:06)

Oh right, I thought you meant her shirt was not clean. Staind are pretty rubbish, yeah. But hey, I don't exactly judge musical artists by what they're wearing. Nor do I complain about people who do judge them for their appearance.
Please, enough of the political debate. I'm sure there's somewhere else you could discuss it. It was okay when it was about the American record labels and stuff - that was at least slightly relevant. But it's getting way off the point now.
I love Everybody's Fool. Not my favourite, but it actually inspired me to write the song "Sk8a H8a", which, believe it or not, is what my name is about.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Monday, 8 Mar 2004 08:52)

Did you get to see them live in the end?

>>By Campking   (Monday, 8 Mar 2004 16:31)

did you guyz see the grammy's? when 50 came up on stage. man it was cool that they beat him for best new artist. they deserve em. amy looked beautiful. her dress was cool.

>>By ladyvenom_619   (Monday, 8 Mar 2004 17:43)

No, I never got to see them. I wish I had though. I talked to someone who went and they said the CD put her to shame. I think the CD's awesome, so I'm guessing she's really awesome live (or my friend was brainwashed to promote Evanescence). I'm gonna get a ticket ASAP next time they play near me.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Monday, 8 Mar 2004 23:38)

The only thing I will add to the politics is that no country TODAY that is truely communist has any power in the world. USSR lost the cold war -- or crumbled after it -- meaning that democracy won. Political systems must stand the test of time and Communism so far hasn't.

* * *

Does anyone know if there is a movie clip online somewhere of Evanescence accepting the Grammy award with that 50 cent running across stage? I would *really really* like to see it :)!

>>By ftad   (Tuesday, 9 Mar 2004 13:24)

before "fallen" came out there was "origin"....It didn't make much noise as "fallen" did and they weren't a very well-known band. But they had some loyal fans who felt related to their music. Now they've become so popular that everybody's trying to throw sh*t on them. I don't understand that. I liked "origin" and I like "fallen" too. It's just when you are famous ppl try to expect so much from you.... Amy's parts are not very easy to sing and it's normal for her to get tired during a performance... Ok....she's not sarah jezebel deva or Anneke from the gathering....It's just her...and they make the music they love...
c'mon..how can they be a numetal band....don't make me laugh.....I don't think it's gothic either...but nu-metal? naaaaaaaaah....

>>By Campking   (Tuesday, 9 Mar 2004 15:51)

Well, don't leave such huge spaces in your posts. Silence speaks volumes, eww know 'tis true.
Evanescence are progressive rock - a mixture of gothic and progressive metal I suppose. Not nu metal though... I also love their earlier stuff, and I'd kill (not a human, but a small animal like a rabbit or raccoon) to get my hands on a good-condition copy of Origin.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Tuesday, 9 Mar 2004 17:32)

I'd actually prefer you to kill a human instead of an animal, since there are already so many of this one specific group of animals....

>>By Campking   (Tuesday, 9 Mar 2004 18:10)

bluedatura: "Now they've become so popular that everybody's trying to throw sh*t on them. I don't understand that. " Yeah that's just called Tall Poppy Syndrome. Or I like to call it "negative bandwagoning." You know how the concept of "jumping on the bandwagon" is that there is the newest coolest thing, and everyone wants to have a look and follow it. And the effect snowballs. Well it seems a phenomenon of the late 90s and beyond 2000 (and perhaps before my time too) that people now think they are cool to dis anything that resembles a bandwagon. For me, I just listen to what's out there, be it chart music or "underground" and judge it on it's merits; not how popular it is. And for people that dis nu-metal -- there is good nu metal and bad nu metal. Just as there's bad rock, and good rock and etc etc.

Campking read your personal too :)

So you can't get "Origin" on CD anymore eh?
