They're not metal for crying out loud. They might not be completely gothic or whatever, but my friend the King of Goths says they are "theo-goth or demi-goth". Not metal.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Friday, 2 Jan 2004 14:53)

they have only i good song....otherwise they suck

>>By dark_night   (Friday, 2 Jan 2004 16:54)

If you want to get technical about it. There sound is more of a deep progressive metal. THATS THATS.

>>By MissTrix   (Friday, 2 Jan 2004 23:40)

Uh, okay then. Fair enough. A lot like Black Sabbath when it boils down to it...

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Saturday, 3 Jan 2004 01:10)

But there's nothing wrong with progressive metal! And who really cares if people are categorising them wrongly?
So, which is their GOOD song? Personally I also think they have one good song: Taking Over Me. The other songs are not good. They're freaka leekin' fabulossos.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Saturday, 3 Jan 2004 01:12)

I actually like them a great deal thats why I was telling the rest actually what there sound is. Cause they seem not to know. Like I said before Amy has a great voice great range and I think she will be around for a while.

>>By MissTrix   (Saturday, 3 Jan 2004 08:04)

Yeah, I can see that happening actually. I'll be glad as long as they're around. I mean, Evanescence aren't one of my top 10 bands, but I still love them.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Saturday, 3 Jan 2004 13:47)

dude this band rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the singer so hotttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

>>By godsmack420_cdxx   (Sunday, 4 Jan 2004 08:03)

I just bought Fallen 4 my friend's birthday and have no money left for to buy 1 4 myself.....still think they are absofrickinlutely fabulous. I like Bring Me to Life, Going Under, and My Immortal. Taking Over Me, I think is a song that grows on you and it's not played anymore on 2day Fm (an oz radio station in Sydney), which sux. I have heard the album, and like Tourniquet. My dad doesn't like them because we are christian and he thinks Amy Lee looks too worldly and evil but what does he know.
I have to say that i cannot put them into a specific catagory of music because it sounds to me like a blend of all different sorts.
The only rock I have heard is Queen and Evanescance is totally different.
I can definitely say the music and lyrics are dark. There also seems to be a bit of a pop feeling, but only a teensy weensy bit.
I have never heard any goth, but from what people say, they might be a bit gothy.

>>By just_slightly_insane   (Monday, 5 Jan 2004 05:58)

Im telling you actually from a very straight point of view. I spin quite a bit of different music. Including breaks, progressive, house, funky house. I also produce. So im also in the studio as well. I know the sounds. Like i said if you want a technical term. It's deep progressive rock.

>>By MissTrix   (Monday, 5 Jan 2004 22:24)

Okay......I don't care for technical terms, when it comes to music, that is........when it comes to anything else (besides computers) technicality is my peice of cake.......unless you're talking about written music, you know, staves, quavers, crotchets and the like.....All you need to know is that I like Evanescence.
Make that love Evanescence.

>>By just_slightly_insane   (Saturday, 10 Jan 2004 14:01)

>>By just_slightly_insane   (Monday, 19 Jan 2004 08:19)

i think they have really great music and all u haters out there had better stop but their songs are kinda monotonous dont u think..... its like its the sound track to a horror movie

>>By bobo   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 07:45)

Well, that ain't a bad thing - otherwise horror movies would suck.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 11:18)

Evanescence is great! She goes from a song like bring me to life, to my immortal!

>>By Jane   (Wednesday, 25 Feb 2004 23:28)

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Thursday, 26 Feb 2004 21:08)

meh w.e the bottom line is I like them

>>By Jane   (Friday, 27 Feb 2004 05:15)

The bottom line is that they're a very good band who are not the least bit manufactured.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Friday, 27 Feb 2004 13:31)

I only wonder why now Evanescence becomes so big, while there have been a whole bunch of European bands over the last 10 years who did precisly the same (not always better, but in some cases also better) and now this American band gets to break trough with the trick.. It's like the same Urban dance Squad VS Rage against te Machine story all over again...

It really starts to bother me that it has to be american to make it big, even if there are equal or much better European products..... Guess that the only way to popularity is the money of the big labels....

>>By Campking   (Friday, 27 Feb 2004 14:14)

Does everyone who has the Fallen album agree there's no bad songs on it?

* * *

Campking I have a vision of the future that there will be The World Charts, so one day you can really have a #1 World Single and World #1 Album. With the help of a 'lil globalisation, it might happen. Then maybe a talented European band can make it, bigtime.

>>By ftad   (Monday, 1 Mar 2004 18:14)

Yes, that would be truly awesome. However, that wouldn't make it much easier to promote a European band because they hardly ever seem to get signed to a big label.
And yeah, I love all of the songs on Fallen. Tourniquet's not brilliant though, and My Last Breath is hardly memorable. Still, they're all pretty good songs.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Monday, 1 Mar 2004 20:32)

pure genius is all you can say about this album

>>By fletch   (Monday, 1 Mar 2004 21:36)

American Idol / World Idol is showing how that possibiity is not far off. I think it might help Europeans. Because in a world chart, it's a democracy of the world. In terms of population, USA is only what, 200 million or something. The world is 5 billion people strong. The most influential voters would be China and India haha.

Anyway back to the big E: Tourniquet's good. I like Imaginary... and the song with the solo in it.

Some people have said that the album sounds the same. I think if you don't like one song of this album, then you're not gonna like any of them. As I read somewhere else, someone (a fan) said that upon first listen, the songs sound the same. But if you listen closely, they're really not. I think this is true.

Also, an album sounding the same is not a bad thing. Just like RATM's first album was pretty much the same the way through. And Pearl Jam's TEN was pretty homogeneous the whole way through. As long as they keep the sound good -- I don't care if an album sounds the same. Albums aren't a piece of advertisement to show every single guitar/vocal trick in the book, or range of "talent."

The other things I wanted to bring up were: what do people think about the band's future without Moody?
Also is moody a misogynist? In the website he was quoted as saying the band couldn't have worked without a female singer. I think he's miffed that he can't have Amy coz she's taken. So he left. And now he's with Avril Lavigne (making music, that is). Is he the next Fred Durst :D?

Lastly, those people who have bought the album can get a free mp3 download (that's actually legal) from the official website of the band version of "My Immortal." Cheers.

I haven't met anyone who doesn't like Evanescence, even if no one can agree on what kind of music they make. I don't think that their music all sounds the same, but who would care if it did? I can listen to 100 songs in a row that sound the same, if all of them really are different enough to be different songs, and if all the songs are engaging enough to make you love them. And I don't want to know anyone who doesn't like Evanescence. This is probably someone who listens to light rock all day, everyday, the kind of radio that plays the same 5 songs over and over again, their favorites are the most banal and irritating of the Elton John songs, and they have a secret longing to hear only Barry Manilow and REO Speedwagon.

Within Temptation is a little like Evanescence I think.

>>By scarebear   (Tuesday, 2 Mar 2004 07:06)

Within Temptation was indeed one of the bands I was refering too!!

As for globalisation and world charts would be good for European music I dare to disagree.. as far as we have gone now with Globalising we have seen that in the whole proces it is not the popular vote that counts, but the amount of cash. Globalisation so far has been very benifitial to the multinational coorporations, and the rich countries.
I think this will work out the same for music. The big companies are American (mostly) so they will focus in the first place on the American market (that's also where the cash is, so it is understandable) and then will try to sell the American products Worldwide.. As far as I can see that is already happening.
The only thing that compete to this Multinational recordcompany is infact the medium we are using. Music fans all over the world find interesting bands that they would hacve never been in contact without the internet. I for example would have never know some of the bands that I now highly regard with out this great medium.
But the big coorporations see the money slip out of their fingers and are trying to take a hold to it.. because only they can decide what we will listen to, and buy from them....

So I don't think this world chart (if it isn't already unofficially there) will do any good for the European music, as long as the big percentage of the market is in the hands of the American Music Bussiness....

(to bad for them they can't sell all there christian music here.... )

BTW, before anyone might think again that I don't think Evanescence is a nice band, I do think they are nice. I even worked the night that they were playing in 013, to see them abit.. Just had the time for one song, but they looked good live, though the voice was a bit cracky of the singer.. a cold maybe?
