Aesop Rock

best of luck with your desk problems granny. i don't see why you guys don't like deep puddle... its slug, sole, doseone, alias and beats by jel. "i am hip hop" is one bad mother fucking song that speaks from each of the members of deep puddle as they observe alias getting stabbed by sole for 5 dollars at a slug show.
slug also has a really fresh flow that you have to fast foward past about a minute of dose one doing his worst doseone impression but its worth it once you reach it.
i got a liter of knobb creek and a bottle of ether got the second mob deep creeping out of the speaker would prefer to sit home and drink cause its cheaper why you trying to hide the eggs girl you think that its easter? ect... ect...
anyhow thats like the only anticon shit that you're gonna find slug on.
so you came out to the bay huh? sounds like ou had fun...well i'm gonna smoke a bowl and go to bed so i can be nice and rested for the long day i have tomorrow.
check out the aes rock track "sinister" i don't know whatalbum its from but i have the mp3 and that shit is ill as fuck.

Welcome back Grandma, its been hot as hell here, I went camping at Lake Goodwin this weekend, got back Sunday, got some color, yae~. Its supposed to be in the 90's today all around the Puget. But anyways....
About the Tony Hawk thing, I KNOW...whats up with that? I don't like that song NEITHER. But I do like the eyedea and abilities song Big Shot. It makes me want to dance B-Boy style. Thats all I have for now. Ta Ta!

Yes sir, Im about 15 minutes from downtown and we have everything, we have the coast, we have the desert ( AKA Eastern Wa.), we have the mountains, we have the forest, and its only a couple hours drive to every single one of those climates. I love it here. Nothing better. Hahaha, I could just laugh when I think of Aesop doing a show in the outback, a bunch of groupies running up to him," will you sign my boomarang??!!" ( mate... ) Just kidding. But I havent heard anything about a Austrailian tour, you might want to ask def jux about that one. Im done, see you kidz later.
>>By Lindsey (Tuesday, 22 Jul 2003 21:46)
Hey Auspicious, I would love to trade places with you for a minute, so I could check out Australia and you could go on DefJux tour. Ever since i picked up a didgereedo and a national geographic Ive been dying to go check it out. Too bad I cant teleport myself, i can not fly that long.
Yes Lindsey, I know, I got the forest in my backyard, the mountains on the horizon, the desert in the sandbox and the city down the block (although I am technically living in Seattle, there's no skyscrapers on my block) I noticed alot more cacti in the bay area. Tons of people have big BIG cactuseses in their backyards in Oakland and Berkeley. Does your yard or apartment complex have a cactus CAE? Maybe your name stands for Cactus Adorned Edifice.
I cant remember who asked about Walz, but anyways. I loved him on Bent Life with Aesop so i downloaded some other tracks that were allright. Expand is pretty good, I cant remember anymore off the top of my head but theres one with a piano that i really like. but yes good flow, good beats, and you gotta love nine iron pronounced nyne eye-uhn. good ol east coasters. I wanna go back to NY so bad. Especially in the summer with people oozing out of the streets everywhere. I dont care what anyone says, people are friendlier over there.
blah blah, city dynamics, creep huddle dynamics, befuddles acrobatics,
better finish before i bore all ya fanatics

Cacti ahe'? Those things live forever. Hey grandma----I wanna go to NY too, but I'd rather go in the autumn. I heard it is great in the fall. Plus, thats my favorite season, that also may be because I love halloween. Other than that, Im dying to visit southern Italy. Okay well, I need to go, I want to make an Aesop compilation CD, anyone got any ideas????

Hi everyone, I'm James and I enjoy long walks off short piers.
Anyway, I ran across this clusterfuck while looking for info on bazooka tooth a couple weeks ago (ha... funny thing is I'll have my own copy in under 10 days; envy me). Retrospect aside, I just wanted to clear a few things up.
I wouldn't sweat El turning corporate for the dollar, considering what he went through with Rawkus way back when it just wouldn't follow suit.
Definitive Jux is a profit share company, meaning after all the artists take in their personal profits from each release, the label breaks even (probably even skims 32 cents off the top for equipment upkeep and whatnot) , then the remaining duckets are distributed among the artists. Somehow I'm not seeing El as a very decimal-oriented label head.
And for whoever was saying 'El just signed SA Smash for the sake of selling records to the drink 'n fuck bitches demographic...' ...NO. Jux is a whole bunch of friends (emphasis on "friends") with a common interest: making a living out of doing what they enjoy. I'm sure the vast majority of kids that listen to the Jux guys think the artists are pupil-void druids seeing the world in Fantastic Planted 200ft. Drog vision and reverb/delay effects on their day to day voices that make virgin's eyes bleed upon and burn pentagram into backs upon auditory contact. Well, things are a bit more simple than that. A bunch of dudes who came up in similar conditions and recognize a lot of the same things and tend to convey some of the same ideas... but I bet when they're not in the studio they're playing video games, drinking, trying to get laid, hitting up a club or two (fuck, maybe catching punk shows I dunno)... I imagine almost all those guys say a lot of the shit in the context of casual conversation that S.A. Smash would say on record; and if they did, what then would you think of your indie hop celebs?
Shere Kahn, badass song. Aes and Dub-L don't communicate anymore from what I've heard... how many years ago did that last Aes/Dub track come out? Which hugs the fat one cause when they did collab. the result was concussion clusters. Oi vey.
Whatever, what really matters is that I'll have a copy of Bazooka Tooth in under two weeks... and from what I've heard you're not going to hear another Daylight/1000 Deaths/Hold The Cup... think Nickle Plated Pockets... dirty digital, dust and scratches, from-tape-to-CD-quality-in-the-year-2059.
That El/DJ Vladmir(?) track Viagra is nice as fuck. Does anyone know what New York Electric is on?
Thanks for your patience, -James

What the fuck! This board is full of tangential shit and stupid comments like "I like Aesop." Who here doesn't? ....anyway
Maybe I can start some useful and intelligent discussion here. I'm interesting in analyzing his lyrics, as many of them are confusing and may sound like jibberish. I'm under the firm belief that they are not, which is why I have set out on this task. So, to begin, how about we discuss "daylight," something I'm sure you've all heard. If anyone has answers or ideas about the meaning, themes or imagery of this song, please respond and we can foster some great discussion. Even little bits that explain jibberish type sentances would help. E.g. - what does "Who split holiday freak on a box-cut cinema high road bellow" mean (I think thats what he says). Ohh, one more thing, I couldn't find any reliable lyrics to this song online, so I adapted them myself. I'll post them below, if you think part of my transcription is wrong, please let me know and we can discuss that too.
Yo...put one up or shackle me, not clean logic procreation I did not invent the wheel I was the crooked spoke adjacent While the triple sixers lassos keep angels roped in the basement I walk the block with a halo and a stick poking your patience Ya'll catch a 30 second flash visual Dirty cooperative net platoon bloom head should split Ridiculous fathom the splicing of first generation fuck up with trickle down anti-hero smack (Cracking!) By LoGik... the pie is you're splatting the same faces he is like three stoog gimmicks caught televised attention way back when... it geets real hands on when drawn comparisons de-leash born selfless... an image is an image is an image like Human On Humanity emaciates attention sand of the upper funnel...
On that note I got something:
feed me intravenous but do it with butterfly syringes...
Vagina Beef's got a point but even my mom's Michael Franty loving self has a tender spot for old Aes Riz anyhow...
Aes has got the weight of the level tipping his sway that's for sure. I know I don't have a whole chat sight about my skinny self. Atrocity's got it down. WHAT DO PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY ABOUT IT? Every class in community college got kids saying "I like'd what I read" or "I think that break-through is a good thing"(.....YOU GOT TO HEAR TH0SE WORDS IN A "MEN ON FILM" KIND OF VOICE) yeah here comes "the day I die from grimace overload" -Aesop Rock
heads be I see glued to "holiday freak on a box-cut cinema" -Aesop Rock
Missed the selah... Ears aren't so in tuned to me as dear old haven't had a hand shake with mountain of abstact challenge sleepless album after album after album rocking third rock from a parable based inuendo unfolded like paper cranes do sigh the wind of opinion... TURN THE VOLUME UP! cause I ain't got nothin' to say. . . .

Aesop is by far the best emcee I have ever heard! He is the future of music of our kind. He is advance. they should of asked him to be on the soundtrack of the Matrix series. that would of been tight!
>>By Mere_C (Saturday, 15 Nov 2003 00:58)
There maybe people out there that sound like his voice, but no one... and I mean no one, can match his style. I would like to see some try and keep up with every word and enuciation of his songs. I wish I could sing along to every word. As soon as I try I get lost in trying to understand the meaning of what he is saying. So instead of keeping up.. I follow aka LISTEN!

just found this forum and I'm wondering what track people consider Aesop's illest. I know there's a gang of real tight songs but if you had to choose one track to sit and listen to for the rest of your pathetic life what would it be. I gotta go with Tugboat Complex
>>By granther (Monday, 17 Nov 2003 10:04)
So many of Aesop Rocks songs consist of the same meanings. I'll have to break Bazooka Tooth in before I comment on that one. Too much music so little time.
>>By Mere_C (Monday, 17 Nov 2003 21:15)
Close To Insanity. I could melt in that voice. The only difference between my love for that voice and my love for Beth Gibbons' voice is that one is love for that voice and one is love for Beth Gibbons' voice. "It is a love such as this that I've developed for my practice..." fuck it. that's it. Bazooka tooth is tight in that it attacks both left and right brain with the severe panning of smelly trash can orchestrated El P clank flaused the fuck out aesop's teeth but no... The best part of that entire album's gotta be "Aboard the Battleship grey... sky..." You can hear his dry gums reflecting the soulforms we can't help but call words dogs. Aesop's tight, but so is the kat who plays the tres and tours in a zoot with Omara Portuondo.
>>By By Ear (Wednesday, 26 Nov 2003 02:50)
with flows that truly reflect the scattered thought-patterns of man, the rhymes aes recites sound like instead of coming from pen on paper, he somehow leaked them out of himself, pure head-space fluidity. almost as though he doesnt exert even the slightest amount of energy in actually writing the lyrics, aes sounds like he's gotta sew his lips shut whilst not performing, to avoid the (potentially embarassing) tidal waves of thought rolling out of his mouth. undiluted, un-format-computed, emotion. thank you for your time. agree with me. silhouette
