Man, this guy REALLY needs a vocabulary. And "I HATE NIGGERS"? oh, come on! what ignorant shit is that! and i do recall this "STFU FAGGOTS" guy talking about being open minded in previous messages.... yet, he is a racist pig. and this message comes from a 15 year old, one much younger. come on, man. get a life and start contributing to the positive things in this world! you are either part of the problem or part of the solution. guess where you fit in, buddy. and if you start using infantile, playground insults on me, well dont bother. try using something relevant.

and... what you've all been waiting for... TOOL IS AWESOME!!!
haha! everybody have a good day now. come on back, y'hear?

Tool are the most amazing band ever. my fiance introduced me to them 3 years ago and i have never heard a band that is any better. Queens of the Stone Age, Static - X, Deftones, Placebo are still nothing compared to Tool. and i still think that Tool's version of No Quarter is so much better than Zepplin's (not baggin them tho, cause they are awesome too)
THe classics are masters, but MJK has the best voice ever, and Tool are the God's of rock.

>>By Azeroth's Rose   (Wednesday, 9 Apr 2003 02:24)

TOOL is the best band ever. we need more bands like tool but there will never be a band better than tool. MJK is the master, he is a rock god.

by the way everyone is entitled to there own opinion. just dont let it get to you.

In my opinion, and remember that is all it is, tool is gives life to the absolutely horrible and stagnant cesspool that is the modern music world. Now of course there are many other bands that are amazing and talented out there, but this post is about tool. Any band that can weave a whole concept of an album around personal identities and Jungian dream theory has got my respect. Tool is one of the most positive bands I can think of. Look deeper into the lyrics before you call them dark and depressing. the song "46 & 2" is referring to Carl Jung's idea of a "shadow" (the subconcious part of the self that holds all which is negative and harmful to the overall spiritual and physical health of the individual). In the song, Maynard wants very much to be able to see into his shadow so that he may better himself...thus the line "I wanna know what i've been hiding in my shadow, change is coming through my shadow". The numbers 46 and 2 refer to the amount of chromosomes in the human body. Modern man, as we are now, contains 46 chromosomes. There is an increasingly popular theory in the science world that once humans reach the next significant evolutionary epoch or "jump" we will undergo a change that will result in humans having 48 chromosomes. It is commonly known as the 46 & 2 theory. What effect this evolution will have i'm unsure of, but that is irrelevant to the tool song. Maynard's feeling on the subject is that through anaylizing our shadows therefore improving ourselves will result in that "last push" we need to reach 46&2....thus the line "Hoping I can clear the way by stepping through my shadow, coming out the other side. Step into the shadow. Forty six and two are just ahead of me."

Much has been already written about the band.

People who donot like their music, have no right to comment - please disappear!!.

I love their music and lyrics, they bring in good combination of all the emotions for a very small time - I feel angry, elated, frustrated, pacified ... all at once.

Well! what I am interested in is to comprehend their songs in much more better way.

Can all of us more concentrate on the healthy side of this discussion?

does any one else some times feel under some sort of wierd hypnotic spell when listening to tool, i dont know what it is but they have something very different to other bands, dont get me wrong i love listening to tool, but i sometimes feel i shouldnt be. n e one know what the hell i am going on about?

>>By glazed over   (Saturday, 26 Apr 2003 22:35)

Here's my two cents. I guess I've earned the right to voice it after reading ALL of these messages (not to mention my profound interest in music... particularly tool).

Tool's music (generally- I believe) is for people who have decided to stop believing what other people tell them, and to search out answers for themselves.THINK FOR YOURSELF.... QUESTION AUTHORITY.
I get so tired self-riteous, religious people who sit back and judge me because I don't believe in god. Religion empowers people who would otherwise feel weak and useless. Just look at all of those TV preachers, and think about how powerful their self image is. Religion (to me) is just a business that feeds on the weakness (and money) of sheep.

There are other bands like Pink Floyd who are the same way. If you don't believe me, read the lyrics to "sheep" on the ANIMALS CD.

I don't worship Tool, but they are my favorite band, and have been since I learned to actually hear music, instead of just listening. Their music absolutely fucking rocks, and their lyrics are poetic.

P.S. Here's something I've learned about life. Don't take it for granted. Don't be a sheep. Find what makes you happy (music in my case) and go with it.

>>By godless   (Wednesday, 30 Apr 2003 07:45)

1. Tool is unheard of when it comes to band in the MY OPINION, yes. Not everybody has to agree with that...makes the world more interesting...

2. What makes the music so good (i got 2 minutes to write) is that they play with time signatures...I'm a drummer...and that is something most bands do not do (I would compare them to Dave Matthew's Band...but harder.)

3. If they believe in what. That is their ideas and beliefs. And for all those people that do believe in more books...

>>By Incompl...   (Friday, 9 May 2003 02:02)

is tools music dark? Is it music from the devil? I don't know what to make of the words. Do any of you think tool is the devils music or is it the exact opposite?

>>By Thanks   (Monday, 12 May 2003 05:13)

I like to rape women after I listen to Tool. Sometime torture animals or scare the shit out of people. Other times I cut myself and play with the blood and pour it on sleeping children.

>>By Xodrian   (Monday, 12 May 2003 22:52)

Thank you Tool! Thanks to Maynard, Justin, Adam and Danny for being the one band I can count on never to make a less than ordinary song or ever sell out! Of coarse I love other bands but this is the best one on earth. I know Korn is nothing like Tool, but they are another band I love. I adore their 1st two albums, love the 3rd, and simply like the last two. My point is that while some bands slide down hill in creativity, I know Tool will keep moving up. Korn is still good, but I yearn for them to make another cd like the first two. I can't hear A.D.I.D.A.S. or Blind with out getting totally excited and doing a freak out dance! Even if you hate these tracks, you must admit they were totally original, crazy, and took heavy talent to make.

After reading this entire rant on whether or not tool is any good I suddenely lost self confidence in myself and Tool. Not liking this experience I grew angry very angry and I have come to the determination that maynard wants me to kill people that say Tool sucks.

or at least I think that was maynard...

"cant we all just get along?"

and on the nazi discussion it would have been much more "pc" to write "I hate african americans", dipshit
and buy my product and stuff...

Now that I just broke a bunch of rules or something authority challenging like that I want to say that Tool are like gods even though they dont like being gods and have people following them or some sheepy shit like that so to follow their godliness i have to think for myself .

this is so confusing:(

i like tool and only marginally musically schooled (forgotten most of it) im your typical crappy guitar player
that doesnt know anything about nothing or noone but that Tool's song "schism" sounds mysteriously like the planetx/stargate theory of the temple of babylon discussed in the bible
but like i said im just a simple boy nobody likes me.

>>By Ithkul   (Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:30)

i dont know what the hell you all think you have the right to knock on music that is obviously over your head lyrically. i hate all of your wigger wanna-be limp dick shit "music" with a passion but i only voice my opinions when i think all you ignorant jock bastards have ridden your high horse too long. as a musician, i realize that TOOL may not have the most complicated or well schooled riffs as, say, hendrix, but isnt the object of music to provoke emotion? pure raw emotion?and a band should be able to do that by any means necsicary(sorry about the spelling). i am a recovering addict and i find TOOL to be even more inspirational sober. they have been a key factor in this 7th month of sobriety. thats music if you ask me. and live they are, well, amazing, for lack of a better word. truly motivating. maynards words are very intricate and very beautiful. when im angry i can vent with TOOL. but when i want to just chill after another day of trudging through all of the ignorance and other bullshit that is all too common and all too accepted i find TOOl can help me obtain this. " take all of the energy youve felt tonight and apply it to something positive"- maynard james keenan

>>By sudra   (Tuesday, 3 Jun 2003 04:50)

After looking through three pages of nonsensical arguing, i dont know where to start. I guess with the stuff that has nothing to do with tool.
1. Yes Nazis hate black people, if you think otherwise go back in your history and get past the number 6 million and find out that they persecuted over a dozen groups. The group named by the germans as the "Rhineland bastards" aka german blacks, were part of that group.

2. Alot of people need to learn how to spell. Im not saying that Im perfect, especially when typing a shit load of info in a hurry, but still.

3. Ok, on Tool, for all of you theoretical head in the clouds fans of big fancy words and a whole lot of worthless flowery nonsense, I'm sure that tool does take you to places you've never been before, or whatever you want to describe it as. Tool is just music. Yes they are different than most bands, but the difference isnt anything to make them gods. They do speak out against god, and if you need more proof of it listen to the band A Perfect Circle, sister band of tool, to understand that. Just because one of the members says in an interview that he agreees with the moral teachings of Jesus doesnt mean that they believe in a god.

2. Their philosophy isnt ANYTHING original. For any of you that want to worship the band or claim that theyre revolutionaries in philosophy, pick up a book, damn. Ever heard of Nietzsche? He was alot like tool, except that he believed in god. Ever heard of Ayn Rand? No probably not, but her books are the physical manifestation of Tools music, but I'm sure that reading a book would be way too much work for you poser existentialists.

3. Yes the music is good, but i wont go so far as to say theyre the best band ever based solely upon their musical abilities. There are several bands that are better and much more original with their lyrics, like... well, basically anybody. Most tool songs are extremely repetitive and dont say much. Just to name a few of the greatest bands, in my opinion of first (I listen to all music, and enjoy most of it), Billy Joel, The Beatles, and Weezer. Those happen to be my three favorites, that doesnt stop me from also liking charlie daniels tool korn nelly michael jackson etc etc. Personally I cant enjoy a tool cd as I can something from the beatles, they simply lack the musical talent that the beatles possessed. I cant listen to each and every song and love it as a unique style. Once you've heard a few tool songs, you've pretty much heard it all, with the exception of the messages which can be found in plenty of other places.

4. Finally, i think there are alot of ignorant people on this chat forum. Obviously those who hate black people, jews, or whatever other group are ignorant, and sad at best. No individual is any less based upon the color of her skin or the details of his religion. If anything, the successful blacks in the U.S. are better than the whites of equal ability based upon the fact that idiots hating blacks exist. Also, its ridiculous to say that tool sucks, they dont, period, that point is a fact. It is also wrong, in my opinion, to suggest that theyre gods, or that no other musicians are as good as they are. The quality of music can either be determined by its popularity (lets not, that would mean back street boys is high quality), or we can look at the length of time that it remains loved by people. Tool is a new band, so it would be better to wait. It is safe to say, looking back, that Frank Sinatra and the rat pack had skill, regardless of what you think of their music, simply because they have been loved by people for so long..

Thats my two cents worth, enjoy reading it

>>By Rachael   (Tuesday, 3 Jun 2003 07:23)

With only 2 minutes to "chat" last time and not really making a whole lot of sense...I'd like to try again. This time with TIME on my side.

A personal profile - White Male, 28, I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia and have been playing drums for 13 "unlucky" years. (

As a very big fan of music and philosophy, I've listened to so much stuff like mostly everyone else on this page. The thing is...there are people who are younger and then there are people who are older and everyone has there own opinions and tastes of who's the best...who isn't...blah, blah, blah. Personally, Tool is my favorite band. There are a lot... A LOT of other bands out there just as good (Radiohead, Dave Matthew's, U2, etc.). Maybe even better. Some of the things I like about Tool is that you don't really listen to a far bit of Progressive music these days. Everything is either in 3 major categories; Pop (thanks, Brittney), this crappy Pop-Punk thing we're going through (thanks, Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Green Day, etc.) and Garage-rock (thanks, The 'Insert Name Here'). Other things are the flow of their songs, the rhythms Danny Carey does (he's a freak...he's TOO good) and...the touchy subject...the LYRICS!

TOOL is a band that is very smart. They're smart people, you know. Their trick is to not commercialize the band and degrade it, but to build hype from within. If they do or if they don't believe in what they sing/preach about...who cares? That's why we're all taking the time to write. That's their trick. Bad news travels very quickly, and if you have Religious Groups bothered by these people, they're going to flip! That controversy is going to build the hype for the band. If they do believe in there things that they sing about (which I believe they do) be it. Everyone has a right to believe in whatever they wish.

As for the people who come on to this pager and embarrass themselves...why are you doing this? Don't you think the world is shitty enough? Can't we all just get along? Fuck...

>>By Incompl...   (Thursday, 5 Jun 2003 01:38)

I fucking hate Tool. That's right, Tool sucks. Tool is the kind of band that the "smart" kids listen to, trying to make themselves look "insightful" while never once hearing of a band like Rush or Dream Theater. Tool is the kind of band that had kids that were made fun of constantly, mostly by white Christian male jocks, and then decided to be in a band to act like they are so fucking spiritual and unique. Well, guess what, Maynard? You and your band are not that fucking unique! The reviews have come in on your "creative outpourings" and it can be summed up in one word: Suck. Before you talk shit about the Bible is a fairytale maybe you need to take a look into the Jewish Mysticism you are so fucking fond of. Why you are at it, join up with Scientology. At least that will be based somewhat in reality. And this fagaroo used to be a MARINE! If I were a Marine, I'd push Maynard into a hole with rat traps until he decided to never state that again. And then I'd pour shit on him. And that shit side band, A Perfect Circle? They suck ass to. Whiny, "emotional" music; that shit makes me want to slam my head in a door. Besides, the members of Tool used to jam with the guys from Rage Against the Machine, who are thankfully broken up so we don't have to hear more songs about the "evils of capitalism" while they rock the mic at a fucking corporate record label. Good way to live the image, numbnuts.

To 'Toolsucks',

Why are you so bitter? Let's make this page a bit more exciting and add some debate to it...

Are you a Rush or Dream Theater fan? If so, you don't appreciate Tool? Maybe if you could elaborate as to what kind of music you thing doesn't suck (or in your words 'fucking sucks') maybe we'll have a rough idea why you don't like Tool so much. You must be the guy they sing about in "Hooker with a Penis"? Right? Come on...that's got to be you?!? Just listen to the words.

You know what's awesome?

Every Tool fan is intelligent. At least slightly. They're not belligerent morons such as the Good Charlotte fans (If you need proof, hell, look at what I've done by pissing them off: http://www.gnoo pages 46, 51, 52, and 53; Take note of X and HalfwayDemon, who are also rabid Tool fans). I think that to truly adore Tool, you have to understand them.

Most everyone I know who hates Tool has either not listened to them, or gets aggravated because they do not understand them. For some reason, I'm thinking that Tool is more of an intellectual experience. You actually have to have a brain capacity to like them, unlike Avril Lavigne and the other pop/rap genres. Don't get me wrong; they're trends, and no think-for-yourselfer can follow a trend.

Know what sucks?

When people come to Tool forums and bash Tool when they don't understand them, or post stupid bull shit not even in relation to the band.

But what's good to follow that up is the fact that the Toolers don't really give two shits.

What am I babbling about? I'm not sure. But if you agree, just reply with a nice, well-thought-out paragraph about anything.

Tool is awesome, no matter what anyone else says.
