I think the guitar solo on rats is more bebop than anything else. It swings in the strangest way!   (Saturday, 16 Nov 2002 22:10)

If there is a better rock band than Pearl Jam performing today, I haven't discovered them yet. I attended a couple of shows at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA (July 2 and 3) and was treated to the most powerful, explosive live act on the face of the planet. I can't wait for their return to Mansfield on July 11. Eddie declared that Pearl Jam would play three nights without repeating a song..... so far so good! Pearl Jam --- still relevant after all these years!!!

life-savers--..
givers of meaning to life--..
With a great fuck-off mentality --..
Have to keep on going on for the next ten years at least --...
Freedom of speech, the world needs a critical voice and if this voice appears to be the most rocking and sexy voice in the world, even better --..
Thanx

Ten; one of those albums that bands can only produce once in a lifetime, with no bad songs and a ton of passion (in Eddie's vocals, and Mike's solos for example)

>>By ftad   (Monday, 25 Aug 2003 09:26)

Superb.

Best band I've had the pleasure of knowing and growing up with. I was 12 when Ten came out and I started playing electric guitar after 6 years of classical. Now, having been in lots of bands and having a brilliant time with music I realise how much they have given me to inspire me and in music.

Last album was surpriingly good as well.....Help Me etc....

Ten will always be a classic but they've done a aslo a lot of good stuff in between.

Plus Matt Cameron now as drummer......all good news.

Also live, brilliant and without paralell

Thanks Eddie, Mike, Stone, Jeff (and numerous drummers). You have inspired me and everytime I hear your music I still get that tingle. Pretty much you and Jeff Buckley are pretty much the only guys to consistently do that.

Pearl Jam are one of the last great reminders of the meaning of rock and roll. Bands like that are so rare these days. Everything has become so commercialised and polished that a band with genuine talent and creativity seems to get lost in the crowd. Pearl Jam is still living that glorious rock and roll dream that bands like Led Zeppelin and the Who started 35 years ago. Seeing them live in Brisbane this year was without doubt the highlight of my life so far. Ed's passion during Blood and Mike's solos in Even Flow and Corduroy made me feel higher than any drug ever could. Pearl Jam are the best band in the world today. No question about it.

Think that aload of people from my generation have a lot of inspiration to thank to this band.. a very good band, but I am not sorry that I lost them out of sight.. still I know I have in my music loads to thank to the sound of PJ......

Thank you Pearl Jam for your musics that reminde me so much of my late husband who loved to ear you so many times...

Pearl Jam is not a grunge band.Pearl Jamis a hard rock band that loves the tunes of the doors.Pearl Jam is a rock band like any other band except in the 90-s people strated to label bands as grunge, but hey thats okay, anything to get rock represented is a good sign.Tommy.

>>By tommy tune   (Friday, 31 Oct 2003 00:52)

Yeah I guess it gained fame in the grunge era and was labelled as such.

grunge
1 : one that is grungy
2 : rock music incorporating elements of punk rock and heavy metal; also : the untidy working-class fashions typical of fans of grunge

grungy
: shabby or dirty in character or condition
(m-w.com)

Are Pearl Jam grunge? Did their earlier stuff possess elements of punk? If punk could be taken to be singing about "social discontent" then it could be. They have less in common with metal (the thrash/power chord variety). They were always more hard rock than metal. Anyway doesn't really matter about categorisation. All music is evolving and people will continue to have a hard time categorising the new-original stuff that comes out.

>>By ftad   (Friday, 31 Oct 2003 04:19)

i guess you guys have said everithing... what could i say more? indeed, pearl jam are the best, in my oppinion... long live the last grunge band in seattle!

>>By in_hiding   (Saturday, 21 Feb 2004 14:35)

Haha, I know someone who fits in with that definition of "grungy", but he's not a grunge by any stretch of the imagination!
