Seriously - what happened to Coldplay? There was none of this synth rubbish at the start and their music used to actually have guitars in it! And the lyrics have seriously gone downhill

It is my firm belief that one day, everyone, that's EVERYone (even you Sk8a H8a) will grow out of this 'I hate synthesizers good bands only use guitars' mindset. It might be in the moment before you die, and then your last thought will be 'Fuck, if I had time to listen to that album now I might quite like it.'

Oh but I haven't posted here yet. Yeah. I think Coldplay are pretty overrated, not crap though.

Haha, yeah, you're right Flagg. The day will come in development of musical flavours ya just give up on the strife against the synth., discovering the possibilities and the way it can make music more complete.
Coldplay might be overrated, i guess i agree with that. Yet there are lots of bands extremely successfull by just playing three chords. And other, lots of brilliant, bands with complex and intellectual music need to fight for their existence and earn just enough to make a living.
I think the secret of Coldplay has something in common with U2: music with feeling, strong enough to recognize the feelings, and played on a way everyone can understand. And brilliant or not, not that many bands know how to touch heart like Coldplay does.

Yep....... you can make good bad or indifferent music with a guitar or a synth or just the human voice etc etc... they're only tools!

Coldplay don't really "grab me" I'm afraid... A manager friend described them as "Radiohead-lite" which made me smile :)

I didn't quite like the use they gave to a sampler of "Computer Love" by Kraftwerk in a song from "X & Y". I've always felt reticent to say that I like or dislike Coldplay, but after I listened to their new album, I can comfortably say that I do not like them. Department store (or "Elevator") music. That's what these guys make.

Flagg: if you think I don't like synthesizers, you're mistaken!! Seriously; listen to my band www.myspace.com/dassein
My problem with Coldplay using synthesizers is that I think they do it in a cheesy and horrible way... they sounded brilliant with acoustic guitars and stuff and now it's all become synth-based which is okaeey for some bands but I really don't like it on Coldplay
You're absolutely right about everyone growing out of that attitude though! I get a lot of people criticising my band for it

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Thursday, 30 Mar 2006 16:07)

Ah well I didn't realise that. I really haven't listened to Coldplay enough to have a proper opinion on them, but I have to say they don't really do anything to my emotions. They seem to be pretty much just a pop band, and I think they're Radiohead-lite as long as your view of Radiohead is the way they're vaguely presented by music channels and newspapers, i.e a very successful modern rock/pop band. To a Radiohead fan, these two bands are nothing like eachother, and to *this* Radiohead fan, Coldplay are massively inferior.

Uh. Did that make sense?

>>By Flagg   (Thursday, 30 Mar 2006 16:35)

Yeah I'm with you on that - as a Radiohead/Coldplay fan I can make the comparison... probably the reason you don't see the comparison is that you're only a Radiohead fan and don't like Coldplay... the new Coldplay stuff is nothing like as good though - Radiohead certainly have more interesting ideas whereas Coldplay are a bit more media-accessible, which is why Coldplay are more of a pop band... people have made the comparison between Muse and Radiohead, which is certainly true for some Muse songs - but can you imagine Muse and Coldplay playing together?? The one thing they all have in common is the piano, really - apart from that the 3 bands are hugely different

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Friday, 31 Mar 2006 12:35)

I never saw any similarities between Muse and Radiohead. To be perfectly honest, I've never heard any band that sounds like Radiohead.

But this is the Coldplay board so um...

Coldplay are a band I don't listen to.

>>By Flagg   (Sunday, 2 Apr 2006 00:27)

So what brings you to this discussion board? I don't listen to them any more but if they'd stayed more like they used to be, I might...
Keep an open mind about Radiohead comparisons - it's doubtful that there are any bands that sound exactly like 'em but some have similar elements of their style

Hm.....even Coldplay has the ability to surprise...'Hasta La Vida & death to all his friends.....' (orso). What the.....? Anyway, the titlesong of the album is really awesome and their latest single too infact. It's all i know bout this album, but it's promising.

hmmm... one of the most creative band out there in my mind... and i kinda dig their style... mind you i'm into a very broad genre of music so them being one of my favourite band of all time is a big thing for me... don't really care about how they look though... that would be just be a bonus for their other fans...But they do seems like nice bunch of ppl

Thought Id share the biggest laugh I've had in a while. Gwynie is quoted last week as saying 'It's like living with Picasso' life with St.Vitus Dance.

I didnt think Picasso was that bad, but I presume she's meaning he's making an overrated contribution to his profession and has been dead (from the neck up) for a number of years? If only he would give up the music and get the poster paints out.
