I'm the 1st 1? hmmmm.....I liked Avril's 1st CD better but shes still cool.

>>By justkeepswimming   (Monday, 6 Sep 2004 00:04)

I liked the first album a lot, I thought it had an interesting style to it and wasn't so generic as most pop seems to be.

But the second album.... It just sounds like she's had her v taken by some lad that’s just stuffed her off after the first time and now she’s bitching about it.

Get over it, it happens LOL As I'm not a teenaged girl, I hate the second album, but a female, 18 year old friend of mine thinks it's a lot better than the first, so commercially she must be doing ok with the teenybopper market that she is clearly now aiming at.

Has anyone listened to her live album? She should stay in the studio IMO

i'm not sure if this is true or not but...people are sayin avril died her hair blonde...don't "punks" usually have a darker hair colour then blonde?

I haven't gotten her 2nd CD yet! Is it any good?

>>By Sydney98   (Sunday, 19 Sep 2004 22:56)

MOst critics I have read are quite positive on her new record, she would sound more adult and the songs wouldbe even more catchy then on the first record. What I have heard so far of the new record doesn't prove that to me. One review states that some of her songs wouldn't misstand a ramones record, but I believe they are all to poppy for that. My impression is that again the producers chose the songs that stick the easiest, and in their production went for the slick radio sound. The choirs (several times her voice) bother me, and with some of the songs I have the strong impression that I have heard them before, but by an other artist. This ofcourse makes it easy listening, and makes it get stuck in your head quicker. Half the time even I have that one phrase of her new single in my head, drives me crazy. I don't like the song, but it is there and it keeps repeating, so well done for the producers and the writers of the songs. Still I am surprised that this record gets so much attention while the last months there have been released at least 10 records that are better build up, with better lyrics, more original songs and more power (to name a few: Twilight singer, American Music Club, Nick Cave and the Bad seeds and The New Year). Guess the problem there is that they don't have the big pluggers of the big recordcompanies working for them, hope someday they will.......

it sucks having to say/type this but...even though i don't like avril...she's probably the closest any female is going to get to being punk.

>>By ~enter_the_darkness~   (Monday, 27 Sep 2004 01:46)

what about patti smith??

>>By your_name_here15   (Saturday, 2 Oct 2004 01:09)

and the german woman whose name I now can't recall.
Besides, you are defenatly forgeting the donna's, who are certainly more punk then April Lasagna will ever be.

>>By Campking   (Sunday, 3 Oct 2004 02:54)

and babes in toyland? L7, 7yearv Bitch, etc etc etc. And Campking must mean Nina Hagen...

>>By Joris Spikkelaar   (Sunday, 3 Oct 2004 02:55)

Yep, Nina Hagen. And there is Hole, ofcourse.....
Compared to these women, April is just a woosie excuse for Pop music, but hasn't even learned to spell the word Punk......

You might wanna dive into music before stating something like April is the one female being closest to punk. Maybe even first dive into the history of puynk, and you will find more people then are listed by the 3 of us, who defenatly deserve that credo more than this squekylittleoutoftunesingingpo(p)s(t)ar.

>>By Campking   (Monday, 4 Oct 2004 12:26)

Don't be so hard on him Campking. She is only 16. and unlike you she didn't experience the first punk wave, not even as a baby... She'll learn all those nice bands, or become a one of the rest in carrierworld forgetting about the music..... so don't get so angry.

>>By Joris Spikkelaar   (Monday, 4 Oct 2004 12:31)

She's not the clash or the sex pistols but still, I'd give her one.

skater gurly: the last things punks want is a president who tells them what to do.

>>By Rote Zora   (Saturday, 23 Oct 2004 14:31)

Avril rules. Fuck everyone who thinks different.

>>By Dog_loving_girl   (Thursday, 28 Oct 2004 01:14)

Actually I know what is punk and what is not punk by listening to the music. Might sound strange to you, but punkis not a fashionstatement, it is music. And from the musical defenition of punk Avril doesn't fit. She fits with pop, no not even poppunk.. It is just bubblegum with guitars, so maybe bubblegumpunk, to give a new defenition.......

>>By Campking   (Thursday, 28 Oct 2004 14:10)

Dog_loving_girl- so what, we are not allowed to have an opinion,is that what you're trying to say? i mean, you can't just "fuck everyone" who think different than you, right? people are different and have different opinions! for example, i think that Avril Lavigne totally sucks, but i am not adding "fuck everyone that like her" to my sentence. it's not nice!

>>By Eli_Molko   (Thursday, 28 Oct 2004 20:17)

Avril's music isn't really that bad. I just think people have an issue with her up bringing, the whole "I sing gosspal music" thing. You can't judge people by their past, only by their present, the state in which you meet them. I must say that her being a "punk" is pretty rehearsed and not natural but if that's what she's going for in the music genre then she hit it. People seem to have opinions over what the "true punk" is, is Avril it? Maybe, or is it more of the Donna's chicks? I just think that being "punk" is someone's own definition of someone who listens to punk rock (no kidding) and is very liberal. Do they really need to be a sterotype? I mean you could have a cheerleading punk if you really wanted. You are what you are, whether that fits into a label or not. May I also state the fact that Avril never actually said she was punk, she actually denied being punk in an episode of TRL about a year ago when Sk8 Boi debuted.

Donna's chicks?
There is a definition of punk, but not the media-created one around which people like Avril are based. That doesn't mean they have to be a stereotype... I'm sure Avril does not actually qualify as punk. Listening to punk rock and being liberal doesn't make you a punk. Your logic would make me a punk but I most definitely am not. Also, how do you define "punk rock"? A band made up of liberal who listen to punk rock?
Avril is cute; end of story. That's the only reason we all like her. And when I say cute, I'm not talking about how attractive she is! I mean CUTE.

Eli_ Molko, I am a person who says what she thinks. If you can't handle it, get the hell out of the chat.

>>By Dog_loving_girl   (Wednesday, 3 Nov 2004 00:45)

Hey well apparently people aren't liking what I'm saying here, my post got deleted. Oh well...Dog_loving_girl I would enjoy a nice fuck, from you however I really don't think you could get someone drunk enough to go into your room.

>>By nOel_x3   (Wednesday, 3 Nov 2004 03:27)

I think shes Wicked. I think more people are trying to copy her now. Shes an icon for all new artists, she been more successfull than most new artists have.

>>By Azza   (Wednesday, 3 Nov 2004 21:16)

Certainly her image is geared toward a skate-punk genre, but her music is pure bubblegum. If you listen to corperate music, you need to just accept the hybrids and roll with it. Its not meant to be that complicated (bad pun). Its just another cash cow choice for those who don't listen to Britney. ANd, personally, as long as there are Britneys out there, there needs to be Avrils because I for one would much rather have my 6 year old, listen and dress like Avril than Britney.. I see some real skank looking 5 year olds around here! Ahahah. And its not like I'm going to let her borrow my Richard Hell CDs.

See, thats called turning a negative into a positive...

>>By ~*Sisaro*~   (Wednesday, 3 Nov 2004 22:41)

nOel_o3, ewww, I wouldn't fuck you if u paid me. GROSS. Avril rules. And If someone doesn't like the way I say things, that's their problem, not mine.

>>By Dog_loving_girl   (Wednesday, 3 Nov 2004 23:00)

Selfish bitch ^_^. I don't like the way you say things because the things you say is like saying "yo bitch motha fucka ass whore".

>>By nOel_x3   (Thursday, 4 Nov 2004 02:44)

I agree with Sisaro, I'd much rather have my kid(if I had one, I'm 14, come one now) dress like Avril than Brittney. I'd much rather it dress like Avril than anything else, if I end up with kid that acts like me I might have to disown it. Haha!

But the whole "define punk" thing is just one of the Anti-Steriotypes, I for one don't believe that there is a definition of "punk". It's a music genre, not a person. The same with any label really, it all started out with a music genre, can't we keep it that way? Why must we classify people? Is to make us feel better about ourselves if we know what everyone is and what everyone will do because they're punk, or they're pop? Coming from New York City, that holds true, people get classified and don't move out of that position, we have the hip-hop crowd, the Goth crowd, pop, punk, Emo, you name it, my school has it. It's like an epidemic of words and labels, labels should have stuck with music genres or better yet cans of vegetables!
