Ok,
New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Blink 182, and Sum 41 all suck for various reasons, and here's why:
They are ruining a beautiful thing, that is, punk rock. These bands claim to be punk rock bands, and they label what they sell as being punk rock music. Fact is;
(a) these guys are nothing more than boy bands in wannabe punk rock MTV bullshit fashion (whatever that is; see 'c'), prancing around like fags singing immature, whiny songs about chicks they got pussywhipped over in high school, and they're, like, 25 years old. Who cares what jock beat you up, or that you got grounded, or that your girlfriend dumped you? No one with a mind, life, and conscience of their own, at least. Get over it! You pussies! Fuck! Quit crying, you make me sick!
(b) Punk rock has served as an independent forum for serious political and social discussion and statements for decades. True punk rock is anti-establishment in theory and practice, thus making it anti-corporate. For ninety-nine percent of its history, punk rock has been solely released and celebrated in the underground on independent labels, and on independent radio stations. Why? To stay free from the system, that's why. The same system that these candy-assed boy bands promote, support, and work for. They're corporate and fabricated from the get go. For those of us in the punk world with the punk mindset, they are the enemy, and they threaten our way of life with teeny bopping, spoiled, snotty, suburban, frat-boy-type kids (we don't like them).
(c) they have tried to start a fashion. That's right. They seem to want us to think that there is a way to look "punk." What? Punk is an idea, a way of life, and a way of leading others. How dare you homos try to make a socio-political philosophy a fucking fashion? Are you kidding me? Just because you got a tattoo, put some plugs in your ears, and bought a trucker's wallet, that doesn't mean that you are now officially a punk rocker. You stupid idiot! Turn off MTV, go get a record player, pick up some Fugazi, Subhumans, and Operation Ivy records, and find out if its for you. Where do you get off on trying to market a philosophy that hates you?
So, now that I have explained why these bands suck gorilla wang, stop supporting them and the ugly corporate monsters that they work for. If you don't you'll never get to really see what punk rock is really all about. You, as fans, need to grow up too. Don’t insult your own intelligence with this immature, mindless garbage. Old punker, you're right. I hate MTV. I only watch TRL every once and a while if I'm VERY VERY bored. Sometime's I'll watch the twins from GC's show, All Things Rock, but usually not. Anyways, I do agree that some bands purposefully try to make themselves look punk or sound punk when in all reality, they are pop. Barely even pop rock. For example: Avril Lavigne.
Anyways, Meghan, the reason that people didn't know any words to NFG is because NFG isn't as popular as GC. NFG has only had 2 very minor hits. GC's 2 hits have exploded. I think it's very sad that people only cheered for GC. I love NFG. I love GC. I cheered for both. Yes, I'll admit, I didn't know the words to ALL the songs that NFG played only because I hadn't listened to all of their albums. But, for you to say that you only like them for the fact that your precious Benji likes them, is stupid. Go actually listen to them. Learn the lyrics for the next time you just might happen to blessed to go to an NFG concert.
Anyways, don't judge. NFG isn't trying to be punk. They've never said they were punk. Plus, the only two hits they've had weren't punk. So for all you real punks, STOP BITCHING!
