Isn't it amazing that Wagner's music is actually the rebirth of greek tragedy?

I don't know what you're talking about but he's one of the few classical composers that I like

i'll tell you what else is amazing about wagner. . .he inspired a young hitler. . .

and the ss were so enthralled with wagner. . .that they played his music for the jews as they marched them to their deaths. . .

ohhh. . .and i am also mystified. . .with his nordic, racist, and pure blood undertones. . .way to go. . .make the white race proud!

listening to wagner is like listening to screwdriver of nordic thunder. . .it's disgusting. . .

Yeah, yeah, yeah, same old story, Wagner was a Nazi. Please don't be such a dick. It's music we're talking about.

maybe i like being a dick! give me a rub!

look shrugging it off may be fine for you. . .but the fact of the matter is. . .some of his music was racist. . .and music is a product of musicians, composers, artists if you will. . .

i didn't see anything in the guidelines for these rooms that said you are not allowed to discuss the musicians. . .who make the music. . .

and the way i view music. . .is that i don't listen to any that is made by people that i think contribute to hatred. . .which was then and still is so prevalent in world around us!

there's nothing wrong in pointing that out for someone who might not have been aware. . .

Leslie, As Bob Dylan said " Don't hate anything, but hatred". : )

I thought I had that Dylan quote not quite right, so I checked and it is instead:

"While others say don't hate nothing at all
Except hatred"

It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) [fifth stanza]1965, Bob Dylan

my apologies to docjay, also, to whom I wrongly attributed this quote as what Dylan actually said, recently.

Please, drowninginflame, explain to me what "racist music" is. Now come over for your rub!

Is it logical to assume that Wagner was influenced by Nietzsche's ideals?

>>By Obfuscated   (Saturday, 9 Apr 2005 11:02)

My sense was that the influence was mostly if not solely in the other direction. Maybe he was an influence in the sense that a great admirer is an influence. Nietzsche was probably not NIETZSCHE yet.
