The New Amsterdams
Forum
i heard that the get up kids used to be known as the new amsterdams, but then i noticed that they(the new amsterdams) came out with an album this year. anyway, back to my question, does anyone know if there is a relationship between the two? thanks in advance.

yes matt pryor from the get up kids is the band leader of the new amsterdams

the new amsterdams is matt pryor with the aid of friends (obviosly members of the get up kids). he released it because he wanted to do more acoustic material and could not do it via the get up kids. that is what i have gathered, take it or leave it.

yeah thats basically it. The new amsterdams are one of matts side projects (along with reggie and the full effect). Also in the new amsterdams is rob (obviously from tguk). the whole cd is very mello and soothing with matts voice. if you want a more energetic guk listen to reggie. the new amsterdams' two cds are amazing though

The New Amsterdams have a very well rounded idea of what it is to make heart-felt methodical music. Even though I think Pryor is a tool, his vocals are the best I have heard in a long time. His voclas are very unique and there are a lot of emo kids trying to copy him but to no avail. I could listen to the New Amsterdams non-stop for hours on end and then throw in tguk for a pick me up. They are both both a couple of my personal favorites. Enjoy them.

i like the new amsterdams. i really admire acoustic rock tunes with plenty of thought and emotion in them. people say im "emo" but i just shrug tat that, call me whatever the like, i know what i listen to and its quality! I could listen to The New Amsterdams and tguks all day with a twist of saves the day in there somewhere...
by the way, i live in australia so there aint much of that talent going round here. its all aussie punk/rock at the moment, but im hoping some melow bands emerge in our scene.

hey guys,
the New Amsterdams tore it up live in Kansas City. They opened for Guster and it was a great show...if you missed it, too bad! They will be in Lawrence, KS. at the Bottleneck later this summer...check them out!
