The Loud Family

"Talk about the loud family," it instructs me.
What can I say? The Loud Family is my favorite group of all time. Plants & Birds... is a masterpiece and my favorite CD of all time. I've had the pleasure of meeting Scott Miller each of the four times I've been able to catch them in concert (3 times in Chicago for the IbC, DfD, and AN tours, plus a fourth time in NYC on the AN tour). Scott is a generous guy who has a passion not only for the music he creates, but for the various boundless intellectual pursuits he chooses to absorb. He introduced me to the Jewish philosopher Martin Buber's Of You And I, and led me to seek further on the Pixies. But at the end of the day, it's his melodies and everything-including-the-kitchen-sink productions that continue to entrance me and enthrall me. He's of a rare breed who doesn't patronize his listeners with numbskull lyrics and stolen Stones riffs. While the meaning of his lyrics at times escapes me, they engage me nonetheless. The fact that Scott has disbanded the Loud Family is truly one of the great musical tragedies.
