I am trying to find a Limelighters tape or LP that I had years ago. One of the songs on it was called I believe, The River is Wide.....also there was one for children containing the words... rockin, rollin, ridin....all around the bay..... all bound for morningtown many miles away...... ?????
Any ideas?

I haven't kept up with the group in recent years. But there was a recent PBS special featuring old folkie groups, and when the Limelighters came on, Lou Gotleib wasn't with them. What happened to him?

Lou Gottlieb passed away July 11, 1996. If you enter "Lou Gottlieb" into a search engine, you will come up with a number of sites that detail his life, his music and his passing.

I WAS PRIVILEGED TO HEAR THE LIMELIGHTS IN CONCERT AT MODESTO JR COLLEGE IN SPRING OF 1960 AND I WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH THE QUALITY OF SOUND AND WODERFUL STAGE PRESENCE AND I HAVE ALWAYS CONSIDERED THEM THE BEST OF THE BEST. CURTISS PETERSEN (Saturday, 8 Mar 2003 17:11)
Through Childresn's eyes. I am listening to it right now as a matter of fact. I would like to find a better copy of it. Mine is scratched and skips from many years of playing it as a child.

I have been trying for several years to locate an album by the Limelighters which has the title - No More Cane. I had the album back in the sixties but lost it over the years. Maybe I just played it so much that it tuned to dust. Does anyone know where I can find the album or a CD with the title NO MORE CANE ON IT ??

I grew up with Through Children's Eyes, and now I'm trying to find it for my daughter. It was wonderful.

I have a CD of Through Children's eyes, (my father made it from our Record) and it is my 3 year old's favorite music - as it was mine. She can't get enough of "move over and make room for Marty", I am hoping to find some other CDs, too. I hope the remaining Limelighters are all well and enjoying their lives.

I have several Limelighters recordings including Sing Out, Through Children`s eyes, and the Fabulous Limelighters. I enjoy listening to all of them especially Through Children`s Eyes. I used to know the lyrics to almost all of the songs on the Sing Out album.
Sad to hear about Lou Gotlieb`s passing. He was a great singer and entertainer. >>>>by Michael

My ex-husband is a cousin to Shep, according to what he has told me. It made me feel proud whenever I heard Shep singing,"Daddy's Home", although I was not fortunate enough to have ever met Shep.
>>By Skip (Saturday, 19 Apr 2003 00:18)
The way Shep got his name was he was a shepherd and he used to sing to his sheep. One day, he got kind of lonely, and he sang to his favorite sheep Usama, "How I've waited for this moment, to sample your chops, I'll bang you, but they'll hang me, if you baaah to the cops, Daddy's home, with his bone, to stay, I'm not a million lambchops away!' Well, Capitol loved the song but made Shep change the lyrics - AND his drawers - and the rest is rock and roll history! So the next time you're feeling wooly, stick your wick in a sheep that's slick and call yourself 'Dick' Clark!

I'm not sure how this works, but I would like to post a note. Have the Limeliters ever done any videos? Particularly "through Children's Eyes"? I was hoping that that concert was recorded on tape somewhere.

Some time in 1976 I was in a small town along the beaches of Oregon. Happened upon a poster for a folk music evening... Turned out to be Glenn Lou and Alex warming up for thier reunion tour.
I hope all is well at the Moring Star Groopie Rest Home, RIP Dr Gottlieb.

Hi....
I'd like to address all of your questions about the band.
1.) It's spelled "Limeliters", not "Limelighters", which might explain why people are having trouble finding copies of their albums on the web. 2. "Through Children's Eyes" had "Morningtown Ride" on it. ("Rockin', rollin' ridin', out along the bay, all bound for Morningtown, many miles away.....") 3.) The Limeliters have a website where you can purchase ALL of their music, past and present. It's www.limeliters.com. You can also purchase their albums on the same sites where other albums can be purchased, ie. amazon.com. 4.) The Limeliters continue making music and touring in spite of the death of their beloved band mate "Lou Gottlieb". The current incarnation continues to make music and tour to this very day. Only one of the original band members remains (Alex Hassilev), but their music continues to be among the best around today. Their website gives bios on all members past and present.
It sounds like there are a lot of die hard Limeliters fans out there, just like me. I grew up listening to "Through Children's Eyes". I enjoy it as much as an adult, as I did as a child. This year, I'm buying a c.d. or tape of it for my nephews for Christmas. I sing "Lollipop Tree" and "B-A Bay" with them, all the time, so now they'll be able to sing-along with the Limeliters, too.
All the best, and happiest of holidays to all of you.....(It's not too late to buy copies of their music before the holidays!)
Hope this helps.....

Does anyone know how much it would cost to buy Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 of the Limelighters' "Alive! In Concert" vinyls still in original wrapping, never played?
