he is a god, nothing else to say

>>By dan   (Tuesday, 21 Jan 2003 19:25)

you know i am sick of hearing about how great a guitar player he is, it's not that he is JUST an absolutely out of this world ingenious guitar player,I can honet\stly say that there probably isnt a better guitar player than him alive today. but it's the fact that he only gets called a guitar player, lets not forget people he is an extra ordinary musician, not just a guitar player, the way he puts together his music, ,the original ideas he has for it, like getting his little kid to sing on ya yo gakk, that's awesome, i dont think steve vai gets enough credit as a musician, just my opinion   (Thursday, 23 Jan 2003 19:26)

steve vai is brilliant but in reply to the people saying he is the best in the world i think his teacher joe satriani is better than him and i think yngwie malmsteen is better than them both those are my 3 favourite guitarists
i think the brilliant thing about vai is his abylity to mix experimental guitar techniques with digital electron effecst mixing

i'm from joinville/brasil (brazil, if you want), i'm guitar player too. when steve vai came to play in brazil, i went to the show in curitiba/PR, and i was shocked because the way the song were played was so energic. steve is a master, not just a guitarrist, but as a Maestro.
i just hope and pray steve someday REALLY meet the author of his life (the one who put this incredible gift inside him), my lord JESUS CHRIST.

does anyone know where can i get the movie Crossroads????

>>By John   (Saturday, 1 Feb 2003 16:50)

enough of who is better..Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen etc..They all have their own strengths and weakness's in their style and flair..All these 3 guitar gods are my fav's. I own all of Vai's and Satriani's cd,and i have 5 Malmsteen cd's... I know the movie Crossroads isn't available on DVD here in england..maybe it is in the US?...Vai as the devil's guitar player in that is just awesome...but losing to Ralph Macchio(the guy from karate kid films) is laughable...its a great film too...Vai is and always will be my fav...i'm hoping he releases a live cd of his classic songs...

steve vai's backgound in musical exploration is powerful, there is not a guiatr player who will (or have the Balls!!) reach to the limits of musical laguage, set up a pattern, and eventually break them.
I don't if you've heard of Pagianni, Steve Vai is an audible incarnation of an instrumental genius. clearly a par-excellent maestro in my opinion.

The man trancends the medium he works in and pours forth with pure emotional music. Very few musicians or even artists can claim to have his instinctive passion and skill, and you can bank on that even if his music is not to your taste

hi everyone im not related to steve although i wish i was ive just been scouring the net on info about steve i think what you all have to realise is that yes he is a fantastic musician an extraordinary guitarist and a great mentor but info i have recieved about him suggests that he wants to be surpassed he quotes 'I dont want people to play as good as me i want them to set their goals higher. Music is unique in everyone it means different things to everyone it is a way of expressing yourself and everyone expresses their fellings in different ways' dont you agre with this if you want to find out more go to guitar.com and read ther reviews

Steve is a great guitarrist

>>By Anthrax   (Friday, 14 Mar 2003 03:17)

I think Steve vai is great, but i think Hendrix has reached a musical level uncomprehendable to him.

wat u think.

>>By Yoogi   (Tuesday, 18 Mar 2003 04:29)

When guitarists (or other musicians) reach at certain level, it becomes impossible to ascertain which one is "better" because they have different strengths and weaknesses (as s/one already pointed out) and in the end it boils down to personal preferences. I, for one, prefer Satriani over Vai, but that goes not to say that S. is better than V. It is simply my point of view. But anyone capable of crafting new worlds at this level that they have reached should be called gods since they are Creators, not just Operators anymore. OK, keep on (insert preference here)ing!

ahem Steve Morse ahem

>>By Andrew   (Tuesday, 1 Apr 2003 20:04)

Seriously... Those who say that Hendrix has "reached a level uncomprehendable to [Vai]", this has to say that the person making the claim can more than Vai. (That's a mouthful.) However, I think that most cannot compare the "better" artist because of their own limitations. I know that I'm not qualified enough to say whether Vai is better than Hendrix. However, I can certainly say that I prefer Steve as a musician over Hendrix, purely because of personal aesthetics. However, I can make an argument for Steve to be a better musician than Hendrix, Satriani, and Malsteen: He's had classical training. Malmsteen can't even read sheet music... Surprising?

Steve Vai is an amazing player because of his large understanding of music theory and his incorporation of that pretty much universally in his music. As far as the best, I think at the level all of the aforementioned guitarists are as musicians and players, it is impossible to judge--not only do they each have pretty much equal strength and weaknesses but they are just so fucking good. I would like to also point out that Paul Gilbert, Petrucci, Eric Johnson are just as an amazing as Satriani, Vai, and my personal favorite Malmsteen.

>>By Involutus   (Thursday, 3 Apr 2003 00:19)

My favorite guitar players in no particular order, Yngwie, Joe Stump, Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine, and Paul Gilbert (can you tell I'm a neoclassical fan?) Personally, I think that a lot of Vai's music is not even listenable. Neoclassical is just so much more beautiful in my opinion, of course that is my opinion and I respect others' admiration of Vai but have a little difficulty understanding it. Neoclassical guitar players are just so much more melodic than Vai and melody is what it all comes down to. I did like Passion and Warfare though.

vai is god on the guitar, but musically joe satriani is more talented.   (Saturday, 12 Apr 2003 16:54)

Alrite.. You guys can have a conflict on vai , satriani or malmsteen who's the best.. but let me tell you this.. i watched them , all of them on stage.. and one word.. JOE SATRIANI.. no one can play like him.. it's like not him , the guitar plays him.. Joe satriani is the god.. maybe the other's , vai and malmsteen are his prophets.. Joe Satriani is not the best.. He's tottally a something else.. he's not a guitar player.. he's and instrument for the guitar.. guitar plays him... do not argue anymore.. watch him live first...

>>By Cansay !   (Sunday, 13 Apr 2003 20:33)

hey ? i thought joe satriani teached steve vai.. malmsteen is another one.. but joe satriani is their god arent i right?

>>By ashley_   (Sunday, 13 Apr 2003 20:35)

Steve Vai is great, but Joe Satriani is better for several reasons:
1.)He is constantly experimenting with new sounds; none of his albums sound the same. He's done bar room blues to techno rock and everything inbetween.
2.)He's improved, both speed-wise and expression-wise. With every album he outshines his last--Steve Vai has improved, but not at the rate of Joe.
3.)He's always raising the bar. He has pushed the guitar way beyond where anyone thought it could go. He has contributed more in terms of guitar techniques and the use of unfamiliar, exotic scales.
Don't get me wrong, I love Steve Vai. He's amazing. But I think people rate him above Joe because he was in the limelight more in the mid and late eighties. But if you compare the two for real, and look at their new material and how it's evolved, you'll see that Joe outdoes Vai and Malmsteen. Malmsteen's good, but he's never done anything different, and has rarely improved.

Still, good guitarists all, and a breath of fresh air from the three chord bull$hit pop anti-guitar pro synth of today's music.

he is a cool guitarrist though the best in the world are Michael Angelo and Jason Becker, but vai is all right
