Skinny Puppy will always be my first love. Not only does their music hold an special place in my heart, but also the fact that they are fellow Canadians. I have a band myself, so I can appreciate just how much of a struggle it is to get recognition here, especially when you were like these guys, who were on the forefront of revolutionizing a whole, new sound.
In my opinion, Canada has produced some of the most mundane, hum-drum garbage that has ever plagued the airwaves, while it's true talent, like Puppy, was always forced to take a back seat in the recognition department to more commercially viable 'talent'. Puppy made their mark in music history by daring to be different. Who can honestly say that of most of todays' musicians?

Skinny Puppy, is bar-nun the most evil band I have ever laid ears on. One example, on "INQUISITION" you can hear what sounds like a demon talking between verses (slow & unclear). Now if one was on some sort of pyscotropic drug (ie. LSD) the lyrics in question as well as others, may or may not, become audible under certain circumstances. May I suggest black light & and some of that shipping tape w/ the thread inside (it glows in the BL) put it around door and window frames as well as about 6 8" pieces hanging from air vents. A good stereo a couple of TABS & friends lock up the house, put "Cleanse Fold &" on the stereo, turn it up & on repeat entire album, turn on the B.L.hit the bong and hang on, next stop HELL!

hey, apparently they're coming out with a new album soon.

I truely brilliant band. Both politically aware, and shock awe inspiring. Albums like Cleanse, Fold, and Manipulate, and Vivi Sect VI, have insprired my thirst for knowledge of the true underbelly of our world. Bands don't exist like Puppy anymore, we our left with their beautiful music, as we must suffer through the garbage of the airwaves today.

Not one of my favourite bands but I do have a bit of time and respect for Skinny Puppy. There was a time when a lot of people around me were into Skinny Puppy, so I decided to see what all the fuss was about and went out and bought Brap (back + forth vol 3+4) as I couldn't find the Singles Collect. So anyway one day my boyfriend and a couple of friends of ours were listening to it and a friend said " hey skip to Tin Omen" (At least I THINK it was Tin Omen) so my boyf' skipped to that track but instead of Tin Omen it played... Left Handshake!!! This of course meant nothing to me at the time but everyone else in the room went nuts! As it turns out my copy of Brap is a rare one with the rare missing track on it , and no multimedia (which is fine anyway coz the multimedia section doesn't play on my computer). Since then I have had numerous offers for "My" Brap all of which I have turned down, coz I am a huge music fan and know full well that no amount of money can be enough for any rarity. Especially if it's part of MY CD collection ;-)

Skinny Puppy is the band by which all others are to be judged. It would be unjust to say one album is their best, as they are varied in style and content. The most recent album (Greater wrong of the right), however (IMHO) is more like Ogre's solo material than the older Skinny Puppy. If one band will either get into hardcore into industrial music or make you hate it, it's the puppy.

Also I'd like to recommend Yelworc (old material is out of print but the new album "Trinity" is absolutely magnificent!)

I discovered Skinny Puppy just two-three weeks ago, the last album at that. The music is absolutely mind-blowing and I like it very much. However, I extremely disliked the vocals by Nivek Ogre. I don't know, some sort of instinctive/subliminal/subconscious dislike of the voice, artificially enhanced in addition ("Neuwerld" in particular, oh god, save us all from the horror that is this low, whining voice with pretensions on being menacing and foreboding). I'm struggling at the moment, whether I truly like the band or do not. Ogre's voice keeps on keeping me from liking the Skinny Puppy too much.

scyrlin , it was a bad choice to start of with the new album. It's completely different from their early stuff. Remission, Bites, Mind: TPI, Cleanse, fold and manipulate, rabies, last rites .. all masterpieces. Oh, but if you don't like distorted vocals ...well.. you won't like Skinny Puppy.

give the album a few listens. they are an aquired taste. in fact,...bleurgh is right. get some older records..... they will grow on you like a tumor.
