The Banshees did what few punk bands ever could- progress. They were able to blend countless influences into one, ambient coherence, weaving their dark melodies with pop and lighter synth sounds. They are by far one of the best bands of the eighties, and of course of all time.

Thommy youre a real tool and so is everbody who thinks that the banshees were a punk band, have you ever heard of the Gothic genre ie:Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, and believe it or not Siouxsie and the Banshees

The new CD is so disappointing, what happened to her voice ? Sad, real sad ! !
>>By SnEm (Tuesday, 29 Jul 2003 07:46)
lol acidburn, you mean the gothic genre formerly known as positive-punk..?

"And so a band who started life as a ‘ragged and naive’ figment of post-Pistols’ punk euphoria, develop through experience into a force to be reckoned with." NME (4.29.78) Live Review by Steve Walsh.
Following the Banshees’ 100 Club debut in September 1976 with Sid Vicious on drums, Siouxsie and Steve (then surnamed Havoc) spent six months re-forming and rehearsing the band with guitarist P.P. Barnum and drummer Morris who, before joining the band, had sat in with Flowers Of Romance, the band fronted by Vicious before he went on to other things. They were to have supported The Sex Pistols (and The Ramones, as it was then) on the original billing of the Anarchy tour, but failed to get things together in time. A fifth member, violinist Simone, left the band before they finally played their second gig, supporting The Slits at the Roxy club last Spring. McKay joined later last year, following Barnum’s departure. "The 100 Club thing was such a good beginning," says Siouxsie softly but determinedly. "To go on when we hadn’t worked out a set, or how to play, or timing... just to get up and get the most out of the instruments without being restricted to certain chords and certain bars and God knows what else. "It was very spontaneous from the beginning, but from the moment we were on the stage it was very serious. Since then we’ve been able to channel our ideas." NME (6.24.78) COMPLETE CONTROL: SIOUXSIE IN WONDERLAND by Adrian Thrills Can't get much more PUNK than the above, Acidburn!

I must admit, I love siouxsie, I was at the seven-year-itch tour two years ago and I went backstage and met her. She's still got all the energy and style of her heyday!

Also, arguing about whether they're goth or punk is a bit pointless, the two genres are so merged it's impossible to truly define them at that stage of music development. I would say Siouxsie and the Banshees is both goth and punk. Some of their songs are unmistakeably gothic stylistically, however many others are traditionally what is described as punk. Rather than trying to categorise them, perhaps you should see this music, along with many of it's peers as a sort of merging or possibly even a trancednece of the genres (depending on your level of fanaticism ;)

as for weather siouxsie and the banshees are goth or punk, it doesn't matter they never wanted to be piegeoned holed into any genere and if they were it would be pop. that is what siouxsie said her self.

Dazzle is incredible, o yes. It's hard to choose a fave one of Siouxsie Sioux, yet if there is such i'd choose the 'Nightshift'.

Recently listened more of Siouxsie, saw a lot of fotographs and read a bit about this band. Siouxsie really is a mysterious woman, distant and untouchable. I don't know..., there's just something about her that really fascinates me.
>>By Sanvean (Wednesday, 26 Apr 2006 21:57)
she was definately my female inspiration along with nina hagen
>>By scarletnikki (Saturday, 29 Apr 2006 09:52)
Cool. Never been much of a fan of Nina Hagen, but cool. Do you listen to their music as wel ?
>>By Sanvean (Monday, 1 May 2006 19:17)
yes it was siouxie that started me being a "goth" what was that side project she did with steve severin I have completely forgotten their name?,,,, iliked nina hagen because of her amazing vocals and the fact she was completely barking.....
>>By scarletnikki (Monday, 1 May 2006 21:51)
i remembered in the middle of last night "the creatures" that was good
>>By scarletnikki (Tuesday, 2 May 2006 10:27)
Well, i've alway liked Siouxsie. But for somehow reason i always sticked with the albums i have of her (of them actually). Now after 15 years i finally increased (not sure if i use the correct word) my Siouxsie-collection by buying some 33-inch albums at some market. Felt quite stupid, 'cause its really really great music. Ahum.....,"the creatures" sounds familiar, that's the Steve-Siouxsie-project ?
>>By Sanvean (Thursday, 4 May 2006 23:34)
yes i have some old vinyl somewhere of the creatures
