Sarah Mclachlan

I was just wondering about that today. I love Sarah's music. Often it is only by repeat listening that I find myself intrigued by not just the beauty but the depth of her voice and words. Here, however, I'm not entirely sure what the intended meaning is. The subject is easy enough to define. It's ostensibly about someone concerned for a battered woman. The person doing the "speaking" wants the woman to know she deserves better than that. It is the "speaker"'s identity that baffles me. Who is it?
Is it a friend? I don't think so because there's a reference to things being refreshingly new. They'd been out drinking, that much is clear. Is it some guy at the bar? Possibly. Then again, these days, it could be a woman at the bar. There's a reference to the battered woman "not expecting" something from the "speaker." Possibly she doesn't know she's a lesbian? Then again, there's it's not unheard of for a singer to adopt the gender of another in a song. I honestly don't know. Sometimes it's the vagueness that makes for a better emotional song. Regardless, it's as beautiful as her other work.
What was your thought, Neo?

This woman is an angel on earth. Her voice is embrace, sadness, fear, jealousy, lovemaking, emotion itself. I've grown up on her music and she has brought me through. Just finished watching her and Avril on Oxygen. How could she not touch your heart and soul?

I have only heard 'The One' and 'Fallen'.
She's not really big in oz, wouldn't have heard of her if I hadn't started listening to 103.2FM Christian Radio.
