Stinkfist, didn't people say nu-metal bands will be forgotten in 5 years about 5 years ago?? It's 2005, and people still listen and purchase the music of Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Deftones and Staind. Not as much as 5 years ago, but it haven't shown any points of fading. People, who are into this music, won't just "stop listening to it", because it's not "cool" anymore. People, who actually care about these bands. And those people guarantee, that these bands ain't going nowere.

Maybe they did, don't see what that's got to do with me. I said Papa Roach will be forgotten in 5 years THIS year. This time in 5 years time, I gurantee you nobody will remember/care about this band.
Also, I said 'cookie cutter nu metal bands', as in the ones who all sound alike, i.e. Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Reveille, POD etc. Those bands WILL disappear, because they aren't good. They are fad bands that people will grow out of. Not all nu metal bands are like that, some are actually talented and stand a chance of surviving, i.e. Sevendust, System of a Down, American Headcharge. Don't put words in my mouth please.
Oh yeah, and Deftones aren't nu metal, they're not even metal. They're also far, far to good to ever be forgotten. And Staind aren't nu metal either, they're like a pseudo-wannabe grunge crapfactory.

I meant Deftones and Stain as nu-metal, 'cause that's how most people see them as. When Jonathan Davis told, how Korn, Deftones and Limp Bizkit were the ones, that took nu-metal to mainstream, Chino Moreno agreed. So if Chino thinks his band plays in a genre called nu-metal, isn't that pretty much the truth?
But yeah, i ain't putting no words to your mouth. I meant, when Papa Roach released there debut in 2000 (if i remember correctly), people said they will be forgotten after that album. Still, they are still kickin' it, doing interviews in big mainstream magazines, still doing live shows and still having solid fan base. Record sales aren't what they used to be, but the sales are something, wich keeps them going on.

Haha, no he didn't. Deftones deliberately seperated themselves from Korn & LB and such because they hated the negativity the term 'nu metal' was attracting. Hence the big Korn-Deftones bust up. Even MTV knew on that story. Anyway, anybody who's actually listened to a Deftones album willl know that calling them a nu metal band is laughable.
Well you were, you assumed I was taking a swing at nu metal in general, which I wasn't. I don't remember anyone saying that, they were huge when Infest came out. Anyway, the shelf-life for the average nu metal band is four albums, almost time for Papa Roach to disappear. Yay.

Oh yes he did. Chino said "Korn, Deftones and Limp Bizkit started it all". Started what? Nu-metal. Or what else was he refferring to? Rock music? Metal music? Alternative? Don't think so.
Ok, i might something, that made you look bad, my mistake. And yes, there was alot people saying Papa Roach will die out after one hit-album. Those people are, what some of you call "Tr00 metal headz" and "Real music fans".

No you said Chino thinks Deftones are nu metal, which ISN'T true. Sure those three started it, but Deftones aren't and never have been nu metal, just an inspiriation on it, like Faith No More and Skinny Puppy. Chino hates the word 'nu metal', he said it himself, which is why Deftones deliberately cut themselves off from Korn & LB. You're giving me the impression that you really don't know much about the band right now.

That's what both Korn and LB are saying too. They are not "nu-metal", just inspiration of it to all the copycats. But truth is, they started the sound, wich is labeled as nu-metal. It's a close-minded "genre", 'cause the bands in it doesn't really even sound alike. Well, maybe groups like Taproot and Adema are almost like the same band, just with different vocalists.
I didn't say Chino said they are nu-metal. Like you, i only meant they started the sound, wich was later on copied by dozens of bands around the world. Deftones is not nu-metal. Fuck nu-metal.
And i've been listening to Deftones from the beginning. My words are just my opinions, the conclusions i've made by what the guys of the band have said. We all take 'em the different way, and there's opinions as much as Deftones-fans.

Well , Korn and Limp are nu metal. And I know the history of it too. But I have to say, most nu metal bands do sound similar. There are the odd few like the ones I mentioned earlier, but aside from that it's the same old angst and reconstituted guitars.

The only thing I want to make sure people are clear on is that Deftones aren't a nu metal band, they can think whatever they want aslong as they got that straight.

I ain't backing out from anything. Chino said there band created nu-metal = They are (kinda) nu-metal. But what I think personally, they are not. Maybe a little, but not fully. Like i said, this is my opinion. You have yours, i got mine. Thousands of people have also there own personal opinions. Me and you, we are just 2 opinions in a million opinions. It's that simple.

No, you said Chino thought Deftones WERE a nu metal band. Creating something does not make you part of the creation. Deftones aren't nu metal, and that's a fact, not an opinion. Their sound does not conform to the genre requirements, simple as. Chino has never said they were a nu metal band, sure they contributed to the creation of it, but then so did Nirvana, Faith No More and Rage Against The Machine, does that make them nu metal too? Hardly.
Deftones have written maybe 3 or 4 pure nu metal songs. So rounding up their back catalogue i'd say thats 3 or 4 songs out of 50. They are not a nu metal band. Not at all. Opinion has nothing to do with that statement. I'm not saying you think they are, i'm just trying to point out that people who think they are nu metal, are w-r-o-n-g.

I agree. People who think Deftones are nu-metal, are wrong. But it's not my fault, that every magazine, web-site or music-program call 'em as nu-metal band.
