Operation Ivy

Forum

I think operation ivy is a very good band, they don't have anything that is all that special about them, but when i am in the mood for some dirty punk rock music, they always fill me up!

Operation Ivy was definitly an awesome start for Tim. They were pretty fucking cool. Right up there with Rancid. Rancid is hardcore bad ass music dude. Few bands now a days deserve the title of punk but bands like Operation Ivy and Rancid branded the title.

Both OpIV and Rancid are bad examples of punk (though better examples than all the other pop crap). They ARE on the fringes of punk. Yes, they both have some punk (only a few songs) but besides a handful they're both pretty much ska and emo. Certainly not dirty, actually pretty sedate sounding, and tim sounds like a diva compared to the dirty stuff. Punk is not punk unless it is exciting. That is why i have trouble finding within my massive library a single song to give an example. The only band that i can say sets an example is the Exploited, but it barely does.

Exploited - Fuck A Mod

Download it! It has the quickened pace, good solid vocals, good anthems, good agression, good humor. If you dont like this song, then i'd say you probably dont really like punk.

Just thought i'd clarify this common misconseption (because it makes me explode).

P.S. Many punks do like OpIv and Rancid but then again I like Country Blues (a lot) and Funk, Oldschool Rap (OLD school), Electronic Music, Mexican Ranchero, much much more...

operation ivy isnt punk? alright kid, you cant get a more core definition of punk than operation ivy, and older rancid. dont talk about things you know nothing about, i mean you like country music.

Operation ivy is a very awesom band. I'm 19 and i have been listening to them sence i was like 10 years old because my brother listened to them and when ever i was in the car with him we would listen to them. they have been my faviorate for so long.

Operation ivy is a very awesom band. By the way what's wrong with ska and emo, evan though they are punk. Ska and emo are two great sounds and if your dissing them along with ivy and rancid you don't know what your talking about, you should be shot for that asumption.

Kid? You're calling me a Kid and saying Op IV is a core definition of punk? How old are you, might I ask. I've been into punk since the 70s. You prabably havent heard 1% of the bands i know.

They're Old Punk? 1987 is old? The song I mentioned Came out In 1980. My favorite band broke up in 1985. Op Iv is not old punk.

Oh and by the way, I love Ska, but it is not punk. And I dont like emo. So shoot me... that's what the nazis did isnt it?

How can you guys even take what i'm saying offensively? I only wanted you guys to listen to punk so that you know what it is. I never said OPIV is bad, and i even said they have some punk songs.

Hey A. Raucous,
Don't act like an authority with your narrow minded view of punk. What does it tell you if you can only find one example of a band you would consider punk? It tells me that your own little world is tiny and the windows are too "dirty" to see out of. How could you be so lame as to say that OPIV and Rancid music isn't exciting? If OPIV and Rancid aren't punk, then punk doesn't exist. By your definition The Sex Pistols, The Clash and the Ramones wouldn't even be considered punk. That's roots punk dude and I was there. OPIV carried that torch and Rancid carries it still. My advice to you is to change your nickname on this list and pretend like you're someone else. Enjoy your country music.

what do you think of transplants. I haven't heard much of them (only diamonds and guns) but i dont like the whole hip hop thing in it with those two rappers. I reckon Tim's carring the others Any comments?

And Roots Radical is probably one of the best songs of all time!

>>By nick   (Monday, 16 Jun 2003 14:06)

Operation Ivy started soooo much and did soooo much for punk music in the little time they had. They may seem like your basic punk band but with a lot more feeling and emotion in the lyrics

>>By Tweeter   (Saturday, 5 Jul 2003 23:38)

hey! i dont agree with that a.raucus guy, but rancid ARN'T punk. they're a watered down VERSION of punk for tubby yanks who couldn't cope with REAL punk- eg FLUX OF PINK INDIANS, AMEBIX, CRASS, IGGY POP, EXPLOITED and OI POLLOI! go listen to THEM! then ill call ya a punk! :-(

>>By shane!   (Sunday, 6 Jul 2003 16:17)
