Nacha Pop

Forum

something happened in the early spanish 80`s to be considered "the golden age of spanish pop". 40 years of Franco`s dictatorship, lack of freedom, offence of basic human rights, ended in a not so long period of back to the democracy known as "spanish transition" (1975-1982).

The spanish youth of the biggest cities captured this spirit of freedom, happiness, optimism and real peace. The "movida" or "Madrid movida" ( movida means "binge", "fun" in the younth slang) was principally a musical movement, but a cultural too: comics, film directors (Almódovar appeared in that years, for example), design, television, radio... and a new way of understand that new colored life and freedom by the young people. Spain left behind the black and whited world of the past.

But, overall, as i said, was a musical movement: in the biggest cities, as Barcelona and, overall, Madrid, were born an infinity of new original groups. a lot of different influences ( the new brittish sounds of the end of the 70´s, a bit of punk, the oldest RnR, the fusion between electronic sounds and traditional spanish music...) was the root to that myriad of new bands: Radio Futura ("Annabel Lee") , Los Secretos ("Déjame"), Loquillo ("Cadillac Solitario"), Nacha Pop, Gabinete Caligari, La Guardia, Duncan Dhu, Burning, Mecano... that are very well known to the rock lover borned in spain.

Nacha Pop is one of the most representatives and bests spanish band of that time. young poetry , melancolich romanticism and urban hardness in the lyrics; freshness and an exquisit style in the music. But their quality is irregular. My best favourite album is their first one, called as the group, NACHA POP, and published in 1980.

I want to recommend you, flork pal, to listen the song who is considered by the spanish rock lovers as the best rock song made in that country. is in that album i mentioned, and is called "CHICA DE AYER" (Girl of Yesterday). Download it and listen it , please. you can download the english version of the american group GIGOLO AUNTS if you want: is not as good as the original, but good indeed.

Thanks for read this boring text :) be happy.
