Mandrill

Forum

i'm really hoping that they (arista) releases the catalog of Mandrill c.d. s made after the polydor years.
i see that the Wilson brothers have put a few new releases out ;
Driving While Back and Brown ; Peace and Love E.P. ; Love Ballads ; and a new Live from Montreux.
I'm also looking forward to the new movie. I hope in the near future maybe we can see a new DVD concert featuring rare footage as well. The possibilities are endless, and very necessary, especially since they are the most unrecognized and underrated groups in music history. I find it sad that alot of younger folks today don't know who they are, so i try and educate them when i get the opprotunity.
Peace and Love, French Mandrill

i personally want to hear the electrify album from the montage label that fell apart after they signed.
surely someone has the rights to thoses discs. surely someone isn't gonna let music from a group like this lay in an archive!!!!!?????
by the way the movie is titled Civil Brand featuring M c Lyte.
later, mandrana (mandrill santana )

A friend of mine did a painting on a Mandrill album cover in the late 60s's or the 70's. His name was Joseph Westerfield. I am looking for the name of the album and I am trying to find him as well. Any help with either? Barron bbingen@cs.com

they also have an album called" Man to Mandrill"- a double live album- but good luck on finding that one- i saw it once and didn't have the money for it. And i know the footage of the live shows from the Fillmore in San Francisco exist- the show they did with Miles Davis in like 71 ?or 72?. Miles even did a set with them at that show! Can you imagine how awesome that show musta been? I agree- they need to tighten up on their website and merchandising- Ric Wilson personally e-mails me on occasion, and says he wants the Mandrill shirts available and the DVD footage too- but there are licensing problems. You'll hafta dig around on e-bay for that stuff for awhile, or the Austin Record Convention. Or Goldmine/Discoveries classifieds. Peace out

Ahh......Mandrill....One thing I can say about these cats.....FUNKY! I got hipped to them years ago by a fellow funkateer who awaked me just when I thought the Funk genre of my music collection was complete. Mistaken I sadly was. Mandrill has a sound that just cannot be explained but must be heard. They have this Latin/Spanish type flavor fused along with raw funk. For true funkateers only. If you like Mandrill, Might I suggest Ripple, Rasputin Stash, War, Santana, Malo, Magnum. These artists have the simular formula and also made some great stuff.
