The Last Record Album is one of their best. Lowell George died way before his time.

I knew Mr. George used something out of the ordinary for his slide (a la Chris Whitley and his sawn off bicycle handlebar) and found this on Wikipedia:

"He is best known and remembered for his outstanding ability on the slide guitar. Although he experimented earlier with playing with a slide, an injury to his hand involving a model aeroplane propeller during the recording of Little Feat's first album prompted him to pursue the style. Rather than the traditional glass or steel slide, George employed a Sears & Roebuck 11/16ths spark-plug socket wrench"

Brilliant!!

Ha, & we'd have thought that an ordinary slide would have protected that injured digit!

Indeed haha!!

There was an interesting tension when members like Bill Payne, the keyboardist, seemed to be wanting to take the band in a jazz-rock, fusion direction, in contrast to Lowell's more New Orleans-styled R&B. With the latter's sad demise we never got to see how all that may've continued or worked-out of course.
