DJ: I just attended a show of The Letterman this past weekend (fantastic!) and purchased a two-song CD by member, Donovan Tea. One song is "Daddy's Girl" (which is great, by the way!) and the other is "Little Boy's Prayer," which is the one for which I think you're looking for the words. I played and paused the CD to get all the words to both of the songs down, for two reasons: for you... and for me... because I enjoyed both of the songs also! Here's the "Little Boy's Prayer" lyrics. I hope you'll see this email, since quite some time has passed since your post. :-)

Little Boy’s Prayer © 2003
By Donovan Tea, member of The Lettermen

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take

God bless Momma, Daddy
Grandma and Grandpa, too
And you can even bless my little brother
But only if you want to
And tomorrow, could you help me
To be better than I was today
All these things, in Jesus name, I pray

Every morning I remember
My lessons from Sunday school
And I try real hard to do the things
That good boys are supposed to
But I gotta ask you, if you really wanted
Only good things to be done
Why’d you make being bad
So much fun?

Oh, it’s hard to know
When you’re eight years old
What’s right and what’s wrong
So the next time I see
Pigtails in front of me
Lord, help me to be strong
And if I ever tell a lie
Please don’t let my momma cry
‘Cuz when she does, I want to die
You know, she loves me so
And I promise when I’m all grown

I’m gonna take care of Momma, Daddy
Grandma and Grandpa, too
But I ain’t doing nothing for my little brother
Don’t ask me, I don’t want to…
And tomorrow, if you’ll help me,
I’ll be better than I was today
All these things, in Jesus name, I pray

Dear God, “Good night,” that’s all I have to say.
