what a genius, the feel he had for the bass is undiscribable.when i listen to his playing im in a trance.my musical tastes are very eclectic but anything that jaco played on is way up there with the best. night passage by weather report and liberty city are mind blowing.it was a sad waste when he passed,i have just bought punk jazz and it is fantastic.im sure he,ll be jamming in heaven with the greats like mingus, hendrix and fela rest in peace.

He started an eternity bass revolution, he is a very special human. Jaco and his music come from the otherside.

Today he lives in our hands.

Glory to Pastorius!

Does anyone know the circumstances of his tragic death?

He was beat to death by a bouncer outside of a club in New York City

Jaco was not beaten to death in New York, on September 12, 1987, After being removed from a Santana concert for trying to force himself on stage, Jaco appeared at the Midnight Bottle Club, a sleazy after-hours joint in Wilton Manor, a bland suburb of Fort Lauderdale. He had been barred from the members only club, but this night he was determined to get in. When Jaco was refused entry, he apparently tried to kick down the front door. Luc Havan, the club's manager, went outside to see what all the commotion was about. Several vicious karate chops to the head later, the one time "greatest bass player in the world" lay face down in a pool of blood, his skull fractured, one eye ruptured, and nearly every bone in his face shattered. A couple of days later he was removed from life support.

Like Jimi Hendrix did with the guitar before him, Jaco changed the way the bass was played, and just like there are so many now who have taken Jimi to another level, so have there been many newcomers to use Jaco as a platform. There was the guitar before JImi came along and there was the bass before Jaco arrived, but they will never again be heard the same way.
