yeah i agree with Campking on the political thing too....

got the new album today......amazing piece of work, only flaw was in "wake me up when september ends" (i think thats what its called) i didn't care for the little triangle "ding ding" sound but overall an amazing classic green day album :)

kathy_moose: wow that sucks so much! my sister saw them at reading though, and you missed an amazing show! (don't mean to rub it in haha) however, you didnt miss much on the 50 cent thing...

i missed green day,and i am happy they're kinda back.their new single is great!

>>By Eli_Molko   (Wednesday, 22 Sep 2004 02:25)

I wish there were more bands who dare to be and show the are committed to something. And with their last single they do a great job in that. Sadly enough it really applies to some americans, luckely enough not to all.

Green Day's awesome, and so is the new CD. More bands need to speak up about whats happening in the country.

i just got a message for sk8r girl on the 1st page--i want you to know everyone who reads your stupid message about avril lavigne bursts out laughing cuz they know how stupid that is. second, if you don't like green day, don't talk on this, okay? we don't care what you think about green day if it's negative, that's why this is discussing green day, not avril lavigne. so you go talk to the other posers out there about faker avril, okay?

Does it bother anyone that Green Day's Style changes drastically over the years? Just asking

>>By Markus is your father   (Monday, 15 Nov 2004 22:44)

i have to say I'm a huge "dookie/insomniac" fan but didnt much like "warning". How is the new album? The single rocks pretty hard I hope they kept that feel.

>>By isaacbrockthelostprophet   (Tuesday, 16 Nov 2004 03:28)

It bothers me when bands don't change..........

>>By Campking   (Tuesday, 16 Nov 2004 10:51)

I love Green Day, I think they were the "birth" of punk rock in the early 90's. I'm glad that they change like they do, it shows that they're a band that will stay around, they adapt their style to the times but don't completly change it. I also like their subtle tribute to the Anti-Americans all over. American Idiot was a brilliant slam at the government, mainly Bush. But I also enjoy the early days of Dookie.

Let's just forget about NofX, right? And put Bad Religion on the sidetrack..... Go wash your mouth Wendesday! The birth of Punkrock or poppunk was way before Green Day raced the charts. Just think about the absurd Toy Dolls, and those bands I named before and you know that you were way of........

>>By Campking   (Tuesday, 16 Nov 2004 23:05)

But Green Day was one of the first to go mainstream, one of the first that broke through and got people to listen to them. Those other bands were sort of ice breakers for the "real deal", of course the Ramones(who are great) were before Green Day, but "punk" revolutionized after the Ramones feel from the charts. And I will never wash out my mouth for anything that I say, if you don't like it, DEAL.

i totally agree greenday WAS the 1st band of its type to really get peoples attention. They haf tha factor that alot of other bands lack and have the respect of the fans.Billie Joe has a wikid voice-punk mixed with something else, something different. They rock hard

>>By riddlez   (Wednesday, 8 Dec 2004 05:04)

i love the mashup w/green day, oasis, travis, aerosmith and eminem...it's by far the best mash up i've ever heard.....it's been on the radio for a little over a month now and i'm still not tired of listening to it....i crank the volume up everytime it comes on..anyways, if you wanna listen to it go to www.partyben.com...it's really good

>>By odnanref   (Wednesday, 8 Dec 2004 16:53)

they performed 'boulevard of broken dreams' last night on the billboard awards....it was in my opinion the best performance of the night.

>>By odnanref   (Thursday, 9 Dec 2004 16:21)

i love that song...it's really a strong one!

>>By Eli_Molko   (Thursday, 9 Dec 2004 18:35)

I agree,,,,,,,,,,"Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is a really awesome song!

>>By saphira   (Sunday, 12 Dec 2004 23:41)

Their Concert in Grand Prarie (Texas) was soooooooo awesome. Dude, it rocked. Billie Joe masturbated during the concert and my friend touched his hand. Hahah. I was more caught up looking at Tre. He's so hott.

Green Day kicks ass..i have both International Superhits and American Idiot..the song american idiot has truth to the lyrics..'one nation controlled by the media' the media has an influence on all of our lives..also i agree boulevard of broken dreams is a GREAT song..along with Minority, When I come around..and one of the greatest songs..Good Riddance, Time of Our Lives.

>>By Hermione   (Sunday, 2 Jan 2005 03:44)

People who like Green Day are mostly simpletons... the only song I REALLY like is Minority and that's coz it's catchy and the lyrics are reasonably good. I think they are a rather big rip-off of Nirvana. If you listen to tourette's (by Nirvana) it sounds like Green Day, coz that's exactly the sort of thing they do. And Molly's Lips sounds like American Idiot.

The fact that you don't know the Toy dolls, or never saw them live doesn't mean that they have been doing it for 15 to 20 years always and still playing for crowds over 2000 people. NoFX/Bad Religion both played in a hall for 35000 people in the Netherlands, and were widly know without having a hit single, before anyone ever heard of Green day. They might have had a hit, and they might have gone mainstream, still doesn't make them the first.
The are a great band, but not the first..... Maybe they first you knew......

>>By Campking   (Monday, 3 Jan 2005 12:54)

And Molly's Lips sounds like American Idiot.

I am listening to Molly's lips now, you made me wonder, is it true. I am not a big fan of green day anyway, but I never had the impression they were simple copiist. I then don't hear this comparison you make with Molly's Lips, I do hear some likeniss between "Son of a Gun" and most contemporary punkpopbands (though they all do it undistorted, or at least much cleaner).
But tho say Green day are simple copyists is going to far based on what I am hearing now. If you had said that The Ofspring were simply copying other bands, I would agree (first hit is a simple rip of of smells like teen spirit, second hit (here) a simple rip of of "o blydi oblyda live goes all on" from the Beatles - try sing the lyrics over them).
But since you are so nice to call everyone who likes Green Day simpletons, because they copied the sound of Nirvana. Let me tell you something about Nirvana: Smells like teen spirits' guitarpart is directly ripped from Sonic Youths opening song of the legendary record Day dream nation. This song is even close in title to the Nirvana song, namely it is "Teen age Riot".
But that's not all. As you might know, before making the big break trough with Nirvana, Kurt was roadie to a band called Mudhoney. Actually whilst touring with them as their roadie, he learned lots of his guitar work (which still was quite bad, but that never bothered me). Maybe you wanna buy a record of Mudhoney out of the 90ties, and compare that with what Nirvana did. You might be surprised.............

And yes, Sk8a H8a, Green day got some of their inspiration from Nirvana. And yes, you can hear that. But they don't sound like nirvana, and they do write their own songs, and have been doing that for years, already while Kurt Cobain was still roadie with Mudhoney. And then Greenday already sounded as punkpop like they do know.......

And no: I am not a fan.........

Nice post riddlez, it's almost as if your post really is a riddle... Very hard to read at least. Green Day is really good, although I don't much like American Idiot's tune, the lyrics are awesome! And Boulevard of Broken Dreams is an aweome song. I really like The time of your life and When I Come Around, their 2 best songs, I think.

>>By Urbane   (Saturday, 8 Jan 2005 19:15)

I think I'm the only one who honestly doesn't love American Idiot...Boulevard of Broken Dreams is great though

And that means something? If you really want to go that way, I can start to. I have been working in the music business ever since I was 16 ( I am 28 now), when I organized my first festival (500 visitors), and was one of the main bookers. The next thing I did was organize an even bigger event (3500) where I also booked, organized security and played myself. Ever since then I worked as booker, organizer, stagemanager, decorater, lightengineer (still do), toured and played in numerous bands (all unknown, to my regrets). At the moment I only work as Lightengineer and as DJ, and have been busy for sometime with some friends to work out a good plan to start an independent small label.
Still this doesn't mean that any of the things I write on music makes any sence, nor do I believe this should be an argument to make my spinsels of mind any stronger.

SO FORGET AND FORGIVE I EVER WROTE THIS!

>>By Campking   (Sunday, 9 Jan 2005 19:33)

Oh no, I don't think Green Day are entirely unoriginal. I just think they got a lot of "inspiration" from Nirvana. Hell, compare the chords in American Idiot and Smells Like Teen Spirit. I certainly don't love American Idiot. Learning to play Boulevard of Broken Dreams was fun (coz it's really easy) but it's one Hell of a cheesy song. Most Green Day is rather cheesy...
