I love bra-less hippie chicks... and apparently so does Godspeed, cause the album is taylored to anyone that enjoys a good set of un-tamed, un-demesticaded, un-leashed, un-controllable pairs. There's something about the third track of Yanqui U.X.O. that manages to, in spite of the deliberate funnelling of sound in an almost a-melodic way, echo the rockets falling around the world. I don't know what their intent was, but the ceaseless bombardment that they are simulating felt like actual bombs... Going on and on and on, relentlessly, long after the listener's comfort level. Awesome.

I never have heard them, i take it they're a generation above Slint, who i loved for their bare trees of sound, hence my visit here to discover if they're actually worth me wasting away to.

hmmm yes. really beautiful music, very nice to listen to. a little on the cheesy side when they do loud, but still very cool. nice when you need a break from ely.

when i first heard gybe i thought that most people in the world were blind.
i thought nobody really takes the time to look at what the leaders of this dominating society are really doing. after listening to them i know there is a whole army of people just sitting around waiting for the gloomy days that aren't so far away now. i see people drawn to their music because it explains things so well. i get the impression from godspeed that there real genuine people who aren't going to go down quietly. they stick to what they beleive and the normal things that sway people from what they know to be right doesn't begin to corrupt them. i've never met anyone in their band but i see very eye to eye with them so far. they are like brothers and sisters to me along with everyone else that feels the resistance and that little light of hope for a hopless world.
what does anyone want but to feel a little more free

For those willing to look through the plethora of manufactured "music",sometimes sonic brilliance and pure genius appear.I have never heard anything to match what this group can do to you in a matter of seconds.Next time they are touring Scotland,I'll be there,waiting to be musically taken apart.

liz, the album is called slow riot for a new zero kanada. it is the second real album they put out. it just says operation handcuff on the actual c.d. i think it is the easiest godspeed album to listen to because it is only 40 minutes long or so. there are really cool field recordings of that blaise baily or whatever his name is talking about his day in court,his guns,the government,and a poem that he said he wrote but it is the lyrics to iron maiden's social decay or somthing. gy!be is coming to texas and i'm going to houston then austin then back to my town dallas to see them 3 times in 3 nights.
they keep putting out better stuff. alot of the time you hear bands start out strong then get worse. but godspeed keeps progressing. they are the best band that i know of right now and no one comes close to their abilities. besides sonic youth of coarse.

this sounds to me as spiral music for patient ears. Like a sentence being repeated ad nauseam but with different connotations with each utterance, until you grasp the meaning...maybe a different time each one.

I've been waiting a long time for a band to truly move me with their music. This band is the one. Their music fits perfectly to all the moments in life we take for granted. Like when you sit and look out of an airplane window or fast moving landscapes with weird, spacey clouds/skies above. There are moments in the music where all the instruments come together to form cacophonous bliss that could easily be the soundtrack to heaven, if there is a heaven.

I think their defining moment is most certainly "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven." Yet "Yanqui UXO" is a turning point. The hope that leaks through their black cloud tapestry has morphed into what seems to be fed up aggression. Considering the state of affairs as of late, their music seems to reflect that. The dispair still looms but now it is attacked by more determination than before. I think that can be attributed also by Steve Albini (who produced Big Black and Nirvana). While any Godspeed is good Godspeed. This is refreshing, because just when you thought you had figured out the blended disjointed structures, the themes, and chord changes. They come back with more cynicism (maybe not as much as their collegues Mogwai) and less dispair (alot less than their other counterparts Sigur Ros) and find a perfect balance of emotion. A lot of great albums are classics because of the mood they set. This album may not be classic when looking at their catalogue, but generally speaking, it right up there with all the other albums that influenced and provoked change in minds of the people who are willing to listen.

have you ever listened LISABÖ? a band from the Basque Country. thet make me feel as well as when i hear GYBE. Try to listen to them, they are very good.
Tomorrow GYBE is coming here, to the Basque Country, it will be my first time to listen to them, so i hope i enjoy them.

Listening to this music makes me feel proud and happy to have discovered such a great band. GYBE! My first listen was "Lift yr. skinny fists..." and it blew me away. Next was "Yanqui U.X.O." and now i'm getting their previous work. I wonder what can be the sound of their tomorrow new music, but I hope it feeds our soul as much as they have done until now. Thank you guys. There's still hope...

uh huh huh, this is funky dunky music. Yee haw. i really like the song "im a hick, not a dick" it reminds me of famous hoedowns in texas to be exact Yee haw Ville, my hometown.
