This is a mad crazy band, not one of my favorites, but they are up there. Good mix with there music, could use some lyrics, and meaning, but still good. I love em, not a lot of people have even heard of them, but o well, people should.

I have got a mind that lives in the technological world. I have accepted fla as my true gods. Being a science fiction nut, i have been able to capture sound samples in their music. As which makes me love their minds even more. The sound samples etc. From my favorite movies ( alien, event horizon,) and so much more gets me closer to the world of pure power of their technological capabilities. Their music makes me feel like i am in a world of pure dark technology. In an industrial world, and working in an industrial plant, listening to their music while iam at work makes me feel right at home. I would rather say that i am obsessed with fla, including other contemplations they mastered. I also have an fla tatoo design i created on me. I love the way they generate sound samples,(wether it is machine driven) and turning it into pure surging power. Frontline assembly is my definate choice for those who live in the dark technological world. Not many people has heard of them, but i wish i could get into contact of those that are fla nuts like i am. Bill leeb, rhys fulber, greg reely, and those that are involved. Will forever be my true gods.

They've been recreating the SAME album since '85, and although it sounds like a lot of work has gone into it, FLA has about the same content or sincerity as ABBA.

>>By guy   (Tuesday, 11 Feb 2003 01:51)

To Paracentesis: Throbbing Gristle are the gods of industrial. FLA isn't industrial, it's EBM.

>>By me   (Tuesday, 11 Feb 2003 01:53)

out of all the music i love, industrial is my favorit. my favorit band is probobly wumpscut, second maybe frontline or assemblage 23. frontline has changed over time, moving from using heavy guitar rifs like in millineum to more of an almost breakbeat kinda more tech style in epitaph. i like it all though. definatly in my top 3, wumpscut takes 1st place though   (Thursday, 13 Feb 2003 23:03)

fla was the first i ever heard of industrial. i have been hooked ever since. they and skinny puppy have molded my musical life. ask any industial band and they will sight these to bands as an influnce. that speaks for itself

I think Frontline Assembly is AWESOME... I would like to know other good bands like them... any suggestions?

>>By Psyc|-|()   (Saturday, 1 Mar 2003 19:17)

I have a large collection of Fronline Assembly's work. As well as lots of work by other bands including the incomparablle Skinny Puppy, Prodegy etc. Frontline is by far my fave out of any band I have heard. So for me, Frontline Assembly is the best band out there. Bill Leeb showed he was a huge part of the sound of the band after Rhys Fulber left, even though many hard core industrial music buffs figured that Leeb and Frontline would cave with out Fulber. Hard to pick a fave album, but to me it is a Tie between Implode and Millenium, although Millenium has the slight edge over all other FLA albums, and as far as I am concerned Millenium is a quinticential album for any self proclaimed industrial music fans c.d collection.

>>By sarts   (Saturday, 1 Mar 2003 21:15)

FLA is hard to put into a cathegory, but I would rather call it somekind of EBM crossover than industrial even though they use many industrial influences.

>>By Johannes Paulus II   (Tuesday, 4 Mar 2003 17:33)

guy

How can you seriously think that FLA has been recreating the same album since '85? If there is one band that doesn't sound the same from album to album. Just compair Millenium with Epitaph or FLAvour of the week and you will surely understand. Otherwise you are an idiot!

>>By you   (Tuesday, 4 Mar 2003 17:39)

Hey You: you wanted me to compare different FLA:
if you tried to sing the lyrics from Transparent Species yo Replicant, it would work PERFECTLY.
Almost every single one of their choruses end up with the synth line going down and down again to sound all menacing: Neologic Spasm, Re-Birth, Circuitry, Plasticity, etc, etc, and bloody etc.
All of their devices are completely predictable: where a techno band would use a snare buid-up, FLA's music will suddenly stop, and a sample or a random spoooooky noise will fill up the same space that another loop would have filled. On top of that, Leeb tirelessly and shameleesly samples other artists (Autechre, Aphex) into his music.
His lyric patterns are almost always incredibly basic, boring and incredibly predictable, and his lyrics will always be about THIS cataclysm or THIS evolution of persecution. I know you must be an FLA enthusiast, so it would be hard to acknowledge the monotony of most of Leeb's material. So do yourself a favour: stop taking Leeb so seriously, because there is nothing he does that is worth taking seriously.

FLA are the artist i keep coming back to... pulling out an album after a while a re-listening to it and thinking - christ, this is intense...

But the best thing about FLA, strangly, is the lead-ins to alot of their songs. Some are so intense that by the time the damn song starts I'm already in a swoon.. I often hit the restart on the CD player to rehear an into a dozen times...

How is that done... I know it has something to do with the sudden introduction of deep base sounds and subtle slowing of the some of the rythym aspects .. I guess most music doesn't 'slow down' in it's buildup... anyway - it's a damn nice technique and a definate FLA signature...

As for those who say they are crappy ebm, well - they are EBM - but i think most ppl would agree the project is pretty talented (not in the same vein as Haujobb or something though).

>>By lucid   (Thursday, 24 Apr 2003 10:55)

why are u people so worried about what genre frontline falls into , who cares man the music is f***** great ....and guy, your lame dude if u honestly believe fla is not talented your a disgrace to ur so called scene if u dont have one bit of respect for bill leeb , bands wish they couldve created the shit that hes come up with , so he has a big ego so what u probably would too if u people on ur nutz also

>>By walkin on razors   (Sunday, 11 May 2003 09:27)

It is very unfortunate to run across a site of so called fla fans that don't know anything about the whole movement (both physical and metaphoric) that it represents. Best album is undoubtedly Tactical Neural Implant. If you want to define their sound , then you'll go w/ ebm until millennium which was the most accessible fla to date .Unfortunately most "fans" today are just techno heads.
Apologies to all those to whom this does not apply, assuming therefore an iq of close or above to 130.

Children children, stop squabbling. Bill Leeb singz about reeeeeaaaaal SHIT. Do u even know what he iz singing about. An alien who iz living on this earth has imense power over us all, he iz the antichrist. He comez from a world of chaos, arcane technology, godz, and crazy shit. Thiz antichrist has an effect on us all, bringing us into hell, hes in you right now and your listening, hes teaching us. Bill Leeb expressess this through the immense power of hiz lyrics, the godz have given him power to bring u into another world while u listen, he has a strong connection to the antichrist. It has on effect on your mind even after u stop, hes probably brainwashing us. Music iz now being used in thiz way, to get through to us, to keep u under control. I dont even know why the FUCK u people complain about your bullshit. Look how brainwashed u all are, read over your pathetic writingz and ull see. Get out of your fake little worldz and relize yourself, dont think about what other expect u to say. Frontline iz hardcore industrial, with intense vocoded vocalz, dark bass, high pitched soundz, guitar riffz, crazy crazy noize, its different, its hard to even classify thiz music. It just takez conrol over u, awesome shit to dance to. U can dance to thiz shit but it isnt EBM. Look at how even u humanz brought me into thiz bullshit. all thiz shit u think up about thier music, its all in your head.....or maybe mine, they have got u brainwashed, u think about their music too much because u like it. U wouldnt even be here if u didnt like their music. Just look at that kid who said bill leeb iz hiz god....HAHAHAHA.....BRAINWASHED!!!!! BY the way, all the music brainwashez u, its all singing about the antichrizt. Or maybe Its yourself thats brainwashing u, cuz im talking to bill leeb right now, actually hes nice......FUCK, it doesnt matter, kidz, just grow up and allow the music to take u into that other dimension.......

>>By Evil Genie   (Saturday, 17 May 2003 03:26)

I don't know what that was about. It was funny. Especially when he called FLA 'Hardcore Industrial'. Now, let us get this straight: Industrial has been dead since 1981 when Throbbing Gristle broke up, realizing that their vision had failed. Attempting to call something programmed and quantized like Front Line Assembly is about as stupid as calling the Spice Girls a Hardcore Punk band.

>>By Orridge   (Monday, 19 May 2003 05:41)

Wow, I am amazed on the feed back since I last visited here. FLA is as hard band to explain to the ignorant, and catagorize. I've listened to every FLA album there is from the get go. FLA will always be true to it's dominating form. The ignorant only knew of DM, DEVO, Gary Newman, etc. FLA has always been ahead of technology, and always will be. The rest of the world is trying to keep up, and when they do... they saturate the similarities in a commercial form. How many of you actually listened to State of Mind, or Total Terror Pt. 1 or 2? Even Noise Unit! FLA sets off a unique sense of music for every mood. That's why they will forever be my # 1. So, many of you that put FLA down, listen to everything they have to offer from past to present before you open your mouth! I like Evil Genie and his way of line of thinking! Here is some thing for you ...." A dimension of pure chaos, pure evil ! " now try to guess what album, and what movie that came from. God I love FLA!!!!!

>>By AP   (Saturday, 24 May 2003 08:10)

What the fuck is EBM...I thought frontline assembly was fucking industrial..It does have the synth and keyboard shit going on right?....Explain what EBM is...

>>By Axel   (Monday, 2 Jun 2003 15:13)

EBM is Electronic Body Music. Industrial has very little to do with EBM. An artist that would be industrial would be SPK, or Throbbing Gristle. These groups have no real beats, tunes, or any kind of catchyness as"Industrial" music was supposed to be complete anti music, while EBM is basically the dance music that's harder and not as wimpy, with "synth and keyboard shit going on". As well as this, they might have some 'industrial rhythms' or something, but the difference is that EBM wa made to be danced to. It was a genre that was created out of people who had listened to industrial and were using the basic idea of it's aggression in dance music. How's that then?

>>By Orridge   (Tuesday, 3 Jun 2003 04:31)

One of the first electro, ebm, industrial, or whatever you want to categorize it (nonsense), i`ve heard. What can I say, Bill is surely genuine. Very few bands like FLA in the terms of originality and influence. Few can stand next to it (Covenant and Mentallo, perhaps, or VAC).

>>By radamant   (Wednesday, 11 Jun 2003 20:31)

This is ridiculous. Who the hell cares about what genre it is? Why is everyone so concerned with the technicalities and politics of music? xtorter 57, you are a wanker, in my opinion. Some people just want to enjoy music. Period. The only thing that is necessary in qualifying someone as a fan, would be to enjoy the music, etc. Goddamn, not everyone has to be a fucking biographer, you tight ass. All of these flamers make very valid arguments, though.
Ok, I realize that was very inarticulate and didn't really get my point across, but oh well.

>>By bern1   (Friday, 26 Sep 2003 18:13)

Theres some mad/insane ramblings here without much thought ie, "evil genie" and what was Orridge reply, "Industrial has been dead since 1981" all about. Clearly it's not.
Bill Leeb and Rhys have their fingers in so many pies musically. I'm talking about side projects such as "Delerium" and "synaesthesia" for example to me, although excellent are merely a bit of pocket money for them , cashing in on other genres and reaping the benefits. Theres nothing wrong with this. Why not. Their true calling however is FLA. Far more complex, would you a agree.
I get confused with genres. They are Industrial/Electronica/EBM/synthcore etc, all of these. Not afraid to experiment but still definitively FLA.
The tracks Plasticity and Circuity certainly sits well with the term EBM.
Millenium, label that under Industrial/metal.

Stop trying to define the genre. They're in a league of their own.
Genius !!!

Living,............in a world of........crrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeepssssssssss

Trankmast:

The new album is Civilization, not Maniacal. Maniacal is the first single from the new album.

Civilization is top-notch material... Very fresh. Fulber's return has had a positive influence, to say the least. Transmitter (Come Together) is some wacked out cool beeps.
