thats what I thought my chemical romance also seem to be put under that catagory, what do you think?

>>By scarletnikki   (Sunday, 25 Jun 2006 19:29)

my chemical romance.... i think they are on the border.... the riffs and stuff are more modern punk stuff and too heavy for emo in my opinion but the lyrics are emoish.... ive seen them live at download not a massive fan but they have a couple of good songs. i wouldnt say they were definately emo though.... like i said i would say they were like on t he border.

>>By spookygoth   (Monday, 26 Jun 2006 19:33)

I think a lot of bands out now can't really be classified as anything because of all the different styles they put together. Like there are some like Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, and All-American Rejects who are clearly emo, but then there is Panic! At the Disco who uses dance beats, AFI who's a little on the screamo side, My Chemical Romance who has the punk riffs, and if they're considering Modest Mouse as being emo, I think not, just because of the more melodic stuff they do.

>>By Wednesday   (Monday, 26 Jun 2006 20:46)

er..i suppose they are a bit emo nilkki? i did used to like them but they are pretty terrible live (compared to our wonderful mr ville valo) but i did have their album at one point.also the fact that from quite a few documented reviews i have read gerrard way is apparently a smack head, thus the bad performances and forgetting of lyrics lol.but i suppose they do have a bit of an emo look about them ..but i would say in general i woundn't class them as that!!
by the way did win win has that planet gave up now lol
he should know you never win an argument with a women lol
especially when they are from the north east as we are all gobby twats lol
bye for now
ill go post in villes board like you said
keep the god at the top

>>By villevalo   (Monday, 26 Jun 2006 21:01)

Well, how does one define emo?

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Tuesday, 27 Jun 2006 02:34)

havent we all been over the whole defining emo thing... i personally like i said never put afi in emo because they were going way way way before emo ever existed and up until girls not grey got released sounded nothing like emo either....

i would defo put panic at the disco in there.... there is like an instrmental bit on track 2 i think?(i guess thats what you could call it) and its the most emo thing ive ever heard... it makes me laugh coz i can imagine all these emos doing weird little dances to it...

I'll attempt to keep this short so nobody forgets what I said at the beginning of the post by the time they reach the bottom......

I think that if those posting on this board are going to defend their peer group labeling prejudices by means of their regional prejudices (ie to paraphrase "you're not from the North so what do you know about chavs?") then I feel I shoud retire from that particular fray in order to preserve my sanity.

Re your private education bet Scarlet. I'm afraid you'd lose that one: I wouldn't see it as a good thing that the private education sector were greatly expanded from it's current "market share" for the sake of not creating an obviously two-tier educational system. Neither would I wish to see it disappear althogether as diversity of educational provision also has it's merits.

As an aside, I'm entirely a product of the state education system but , as I'm sure those students I have taught in the private sector (Westminster, Duwich College, JAGS and Sydenham High) would attest, I really don't have a chip on my shoulder about it....

Thank you for your kind words re my vocabulary Ville. I have barely been able to sleep since your earlier post for fear they you might again lacerate my public image with your rapier-like wit.

Sk8er, a definition of Emo? Haven't you already told readers of this board that in your opinion Emos "listen to stupid scene music"?

>>By planet ear   (Wednesday, 28 Jun 2006 00:37)

dude, stop posting on here if all you're gonna do is be sarcastic on irrelevant issues... yes, I said that but that doesn't mean that I'm not interested in hearing other people's opinions on it... why else would I be on a discussion board, duh?

scarletnikki, I was referring to a definition of emo music... we've only really been over the social label that is emo - since not all fans of emo music are emo and not all music emos listen to is emo, it needs another definition, I should think - but since it's a description of a genre of art (as music is art), it depends on your perspective, really... what are you looking for in emo?

Personally I enjoy The Brilliant Dance by Dashboard Confessional and Konstantine by Something Corporate - both markedly emo... as I've previously stated, I can't stand most emo kids, whereas emo music can be alright, although I mostly don't like the singing
I don't like bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco because I think they are to emo what Avril Lavigne is to punk...

I had just come to the same conclusion myself actually Sk8er, for some reason this board at this point just seems to annoy me. I'll leave you guys to it I think. Enjoy yourselves. Apologies to anyone who feels unjustly wound up by my posts.

>>By planet ear   (Wednesday, 28 Jun 2006 02:15)

dear dear..I thought we had made an agreement to stop the personal insults and irrelavancies, and instead discuss the subject which is EMO. as I am happy to do this I would like to make one last comment to reply to planet ear1.) I have lived in the north and the south ,so have experience of both places.2)I do not lose from private education, as i went to a comprehensive up until the age of 13, however the staff there decide i was too stupid to take any exams at all, as well as being bullied. so I went to a private school to do my exams which I passed and have continued to pass exams ever since,so for me the state system failed, however I would NEVER make any kind of judgement to anyone who has been through the state system,I find people who attack those who have had private ed,are reverse snobs,.and if they havnt experinced it for themselves how can they know which is better?sorry everyone I felt I had to defend the personal attacks I have endured on this message board, now lets hope there is no more. "peace"

sk8a h8a, I was curios as to what music fell under emo, particularly as him have often been referred to as emo,but I have a better idea of it all now thanks.Personally I think him are the epitome of goth.

>>By scarletnikki   (Wednesday, 28 Jun 2006 23:31)

the epitome of goth? Perhaps you'd care to back that up..?

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Thursday, 29 Jun 2006 01:59)

just my opinion, but, the imagery, the vocals, the lyrics all sum up goth to me.

>>By scarletnikki   (Thursday, 29 Jun 2006 15:15)

him an epitome of goth.... maybe as far as his new image and some of his lyrics go yeah i suppose but as far as the music... riffs and drumming i would say that there is something missing to class it as goth personally....not saying him are bad i like some of there stuff and ive seen them live twice but goth isnt the right word i dnt think.... but neither is emo.... him lyrics are too advanced and meaning ful for emo.... i know emo is meant to me emotional.. or emotive or whatever but i have yet to hear an emo band that actually subscribed to that.

and planet ear.... im assuming you class your self an educated person but you seem to be missing the fact that people dont want you here because you lower the tone and because it seems obvious to most that since you came about the conversation went down hill.... now if you cant get the hint and talk about the same thing or go away then i would say intelligence definately overlooked you. Like i said before and you obviously didnt get any of the times anyone said it if you cant keep in line with the convo and talk about the topic and respect others on here then you shouldnt be here.

>>By spookygoth   (Thursday, 29 Jun 2006 16:45)

oh I think the way he has looked alla long-- except for the very short hair and the long with beard!well thats what I meant when I said in my opinion im sure others see it differently and ville would like that. since there isnt a goth discussion board ,could anyone else describe their epitome of goth?

>>By scarletnikki   (Friday, 30 Jun 2006 22:28)

This topic goes downhill so fast, it's amazing really. Congratulations.

>>By Wednesday   (Sunday, 2 Jul 2006 02:50)

it went to hell ages ago wednesday.

>>By scarletnikki   (Sunday, 2 Jul 2006 18:52)

Oh, I know ... but sometimes it gets back on track, and then about 3 posts later, downhill we go once more.

... how come you can say "hell" scarletnikki, because every time I say it in a post, it gets deleted, lets see if the Flork gods are nice to me this time.

>>By Wednesday   (Monday, 3 Jul 2006 02:04)

Hell, that's unusual... I dunno why the hell your posts would get... sent to Hell...

Emooo... dare I point out that we're still not talking about emo?

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Monday, 3 Jul 2006 02:27)

am I to blame for that wednesday? apologies if thats the case.hahah sk8a h8a.everyone is too frightened to,hahaha

>>By scarletnikki   (Monday, 3 Jul 2006 12:02)

What, to talk about emo? What a silly discussion this is

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Monday, 3 Jul 2006 14:42)

I know getting even more daft! when will it end?

>>By scarletnikki   (Monday, 3 Jul 2006 23:13)

Ahem, I don't think anyone is to blame for the downward spiral of this topic. I mean, for the most part, it's been a good conversation that really has no place to go. It's sad to think that this post will soon slip into the bottom of the "latest discussions" list to later fall into obscurity. But, it may have to be done, just to save our non-existent conversation.
