No doubt about the fact that Dream Theatre are fuckin talented, but the singer has no balls, they should fuck him off and get someone better.

>>By Mr.Wolfe   (Tuesday, 3 Jun 2003 10:41)

LeBrie is an amazing vocalist.... im just happy that they didnt throw a death or black metal vocalist.... ESPECIALLY a Nu Metal vocalist would screw that up... imagine Corey Taylor with DT

>>By GO DREAMTHEATER/SYMPHONY X/CRADLE OF FILTH!!!!!   (Wednesday, 4 Jun 2003 04:08)

Nah, I'm not talking no black metal shit or Nu-Metal. But I just don't agree with the pitch. LaBrie is too 80s, I used to be a diehard fan...as a kid. But I guess it works the way it is. Dance of Eternity is fuckin sick, I don't think there are many better musicians. No doubt dream theater is good but they have the potential to be great. However they are probably at the stage where they just wanna do what they do. I'm not baggin` em just having my say.

These guys continued what Rush started. They are the next logical level of where
progressive music should have gone, a breath of fresh air to the inspirational mind!
Their music will stand the test of time like the other great composers of the past. I can listen to all their CD's over & over and always hear something new. Carry on my
waywrad sons!

OK Boys and Girls - Time to clean up.

Tabs can be got from www.dreamtheater.net and alot of other various tabulating sites. Including tabcrawler.com and tabmania.com basscrazy.com tabmaia.com tabcity.com

videos can also be got from there and individuals sites www.mikeportnoy.com www.johnpetrucci.com etc

The whole perception around Scenes From a Memory is exactly as the title says, and revolved around the theory of re-incarnations within the same circle of people.
Nicholas is Victoria. The Sleeper is the Miracle, the Miracle is Nichoas, Nicholas is the brother of the sleeper, who is the brother of the Miracle. There are three roles, two brothers and a lover.
The pyschologist that keeps popping up throught the album is trying to get Nicholas to "open up his memory into his life and his past life".
If you listen carefully the Pyschologist starts off by using the words, "open your eyes nicholas", then progresses later in the album to talk about his past", then at the end of hte album he says "Open your eyes Victoria" to show that he has reached the memory from Nicholas' previous life.
If you watch the live DVD and concentrate on the cinamagraphics, you will notice that as the "film" progresses you start of by seeing the actual victoria (first life - old poor quality picture) in the mirror, then you see Nicholas (b/w but better quality - more modern - in this life), then you see the only colour picture of victoria (which is nicholas' clear memory of his previous life - hence why it is such a clear picture)
The series of stills start of by just a few, blurred pictures, as the story progresses, the ictures become a little more indepth and clearer, till at the end, you are standing right in front of a grave stone and you can read the inscription. "VICTORIA PAGE - 1898? - 1928) Hense the 1928 Overture, not sure about the birthyear.
This continuous cycle of reincarnation and memory is a complete loop, starting and restarting. One brother killing the lover for jealousy, and the woman for cheating.

Dream Theater is amazing. However, I am a drummer myself, and those who said that Mike Portnoy is the best drummer ever have obviously not seen to many really good drummers. Check out John Blackwell or Akira Jimbo at Drummerworld.com and you'll see what i mean. I love Portnoy, but i have to say that he's not the best. Jordan Rudess and John Petrucci however is debatable. Their technical skill on keys and guitar, respectfully, can only be rivalled by the likes of some such jazz guitarists as Al Di Meola, or for Rudess, symphony playing. Speaking of symphony, the best thing that could ever happen to Dream Theater would be to lose LaBrie for Russell Allen from Symphony X. His voice is melodic and compelling and i love it. If u guys like Dream Theater, check out Symphony X. Oh yeah, and Dream Theater's best album was Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, and their greatest song Blind Faith from that CD. The solo by Petrucci at 7:55 in that song is by far his best and hardest work to play.

What does Dream Theater sound like...??

Their drummer is not the best... I'd have to say it is Dave Grohl (Drummed for Nirvana, Tenacious D, Queens of the Stone Age) and (Guitar for Foo Fighters, Tenacious D)

>>By Grazyl   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 02:43)

Saying that Dave Grohl is better than Mike Portnoy is like saying that Jordan Hanson is better than Yngwie Malmsteen. MIke Portony is second only to Neil Peart of Rush. John Petrucci is better than I'll ever be, but he's still is not the best (I think, and do does he, that Steve Vai is better). James Lebrie, I'm sorry, but those of you who have seen them in concert does have very gay stage antics...I've also seen Symphony X and Russel Allen is the best front man I have ever seen! I asked him if he'd come back to my house and he looked at me and said "mmm...you're a little too young for me, man." Then he gave me a high-five. That's why I like Symphony X more. They're not so much heard of, and they'll still down to earth and all that. John Myung is the second best bassist following closely behind Victor Wootten. Last and certainly not least is the only person who is not topped by anyone in Dream Theater. That would be Jordan Rudess. I went to one of his seminars and the mofo was playing a keyboard set to the effect of a high school marching band drumline. Myself being a keyboardist, promply crapped my pants. However, now that I've bashed them, let me say now that they are the best collaberation of musicians ever. They all put in and write everythign together which is way I think they have stayed together for so long. Man my fingers are tired.

>>By Beowulf   (Wednesday, 22 Sep 2004 21:43)

Hmmm... Why would that be like that...??

How much of his drumming have you heard...??

>>By Grazyl   (Thursday, 23 Sep 2004 02:26)

This band is truly wonderful - they deserve a discussion for every single one of their songs but instead there are only 2 pages... shame, really

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Wednesday, 9 Mar 2005 22:07)

I fully agree, Dream Theater have genuine talent.

>>By Obfuscated   (Tuesday, 22 Mar 2005 14:38)

alright, everyone making claims to who is the best drummer, guitarrist, etc. in the world, do your homework before blabbing off some talented yet overrated musician u know of.

the best:
Drummer: Vinnie Colaiuta - winner, best drummer in the world - awarded 1996-97, closely followed by John Blackwell
Guitarrist: Ron Thal - Bumblefoot - followed closely by John Petrucci, and of a different genre, Pat Metheny of the jazz guitar scene.
Bassist: Wictor Wooten - Bela Fleck and the Flecktones followed by Stu Hamm, then id say Tony Levin - Liquid Tension Experiement, Black Light Syndrome, King Crimson, etc.

If anyone has quarrel with any of these, i am confident ill be able to pursuade you to my choices. merely give me your msn and ill add you and send you proof.

>>By Dies_Irae   (Wednesday, 6 Apr 2005 10:32)

forgot keyboardist

Keyboardist : Jordan Rudess - DT, Liquid Tension Experiment, followed very closely by Rick Wakeman - of the band called Yes

>>By Dies_Irae   (Wednesday, 6 Apr 2005 10:34)

One of the greatest bands on this planet. 4 of the most talented musicians on this planet and a decent vocalist. (I dont "hate" Labrie, but compared to guys like Russell Allen or Daniel Gildenlöw I find him lacking somethign) Writing some of the most beautiful music on this planet (A Change of Seasons, Scenes from a Memory, Octavarium)
