David Sylvian

Forum

David Sylvian is a rare breed of artist who can gracefuly blend the ethereal with a funky beat then blow your soul away with the divine. In a time where popular music is junk, he offers something real. The music is simple yet intellectual and wonderfully complex. THis artist is deep and he takes you there.

I have followed David Sylvians career closely since 1984. I have purchased every single one of his releases and been moved beyond all explanation.
Any news on a new release on a new label?

Once you get 'into' an artist and feel more 'invloved' with the music it can bring rewards off repeated listening. To my mind, none more so than David Sylvian, i'd always known of him, but never gave his any attention. But someone leant me 'Dead Bees on a Cake' claiming it was one of the best album of 1999. He wasn't far wrong. Initially, there doesn't seem much to like, his voice, on first hearing sounds morrose and depressing, the music languid and lacklustre, but you find yourself warming to it over time. Only with time can you truly appreciate this man and the music he makes. I've got his whole catalogue now - all excellent. He's one of the few artists, who, i see as truly 'progressing' with his work, changing, evolving his sound. So richly textured is the album 'Dead Bees . . .'.

Having been through the eighties with japan and David Sylvian, | am no longer trying to convince the world of this man's beautiful gift. Merely, I take solace in the knowledge that is "our" secret. Those of us who appreciate, know....

Voted the most beautiful man in the world at some stage one could pass him off as an arty farty muso who dabbles in the ecelctic.
Me..I prefer to see him as the provider of music which defies time and popular culture. A great artist.

I saw Sylvian gig of the "Everything and Nothing" tour in OPorto (Portugal). It was the best concert I ever so in my short life (29). I hope he returns... this time with Robert Fripp, If´s possible.
