I don't Prince was old enough to write anything for Cymande. However I would like to know where I could find a copy of "Bra."

Cymande was like the best funk fusion band ever to hit the scene between 1971-1975.
Its too bad that their music was too ahead of the time back then. but they did manage a few hits with the message and bra. but their best tracks remain unheard like brothers on the slide, dove, the recluse, friends, magic etc. Look for newhouse label theh soul of rasta to start. I hear that there is more to come.

Spike lee used three tracks from the soul of rasta for the recent movie the 25th hour. The tracks dove, bra, and the message were all played at great lengths during the club scene of the movie. Nice job spike!

I heard a song in the Spike Lee movie, the 25th Hour. I remembered it from the 70's but couldnt remember the name of it or who sang it, but I know I had to have it. I waited for the movie credits to see who it was. The song was Bra and and the band was Cymande. Man, when you hear that bass line, you just cannot sit still.

Im searching for that 25th hour mix of the 3 cymande songs it was just incredible but i cant find it i just find the 3 songs separated.

The dj who mixed the tracks for 25th hour was some cat named dj cipha sounds. I think he is from NYC which makes sense given the movie.

When I first heard "Dove", I had to have more... I found it on the Scrapple, soundtrack: a B rated hippy movie, but the soundtrack is worth checking out.

Someone wanted other stuff like Cymande, try:
Mandrill, Fatback band

Can anyone suggest more, you know like that early 70's funky jazz?

Cymande is awesome. All three of their albums plus three unreleased songs are available on a UK import that is fantastic. Lots of percussion and tribal rhythms, but also some stuff reminiscent of Santana and Curtis Mayfield. Two main vocalists plus background harmonies, couple guys on eerily dissonant horns, very nice guitar work and great, great bass playing.

Really inspiring music, but they only held it together for three albums. 1972-74.
