cake is a horrible band with no real talent, except to make laughable music with the occasional stuck-in-your-head hook. i'll give 'em this: their songs are catchy, but not in the way songs should be catchy. they're catchy in a way that you really don't like. if you're not a fan already, don't waste your time, cake is horrible and should never make music again.

I think the song "the distance" is about him having to overcome something before he can be totally with the girl. "he's going the distance, he's going for speed, she's all alone in her time of need, but he's raceing, and pacing and plotting the course, he's fighting and biting and riding on his horse, he's going the distance", just a guess.

I love Cake. They make me so happy.
To me, "The Distance" is about someone who is trying so hard to please
some one and be amazing, But no one cares. And the person who this
someone is trying to impress doesn't need to be impressed
they just need that person to be there. But they are all alone.
However, if you have ever heard "Waiting", I think all of cakes songs will
make sence to you.
Anyone know the words to "Meanwhile, Rick James" when he's like
'meanwhile Rick James takes her ----------, and theres nothing I can do.'
I can't understand what he is saying.
