Built to Spill is one of the most amazing bands making music today. Make sure to hear Perfect from Now On and Keep it like a Secret. Also Doug Marsch released a jazzy creative solo album that rocks!

See them live!
Once you witness Doug and the boys in person, you will never want to miss them again.

i dont know, they are really dissapointing.....................only if youve seen what they are really capable of. Treepeople was(is) the most ground shattering musical experiance i ever had period. if you are lucky enough to find a copy of guilt regret and embarresment on toxic shock record label, not the one on c.z. you will "see the light"

I am finding it really hard to find tabs for Doug Marsch's solo album, if anyone
could leave up a link or something like that I would be most apreciative.

About 6 or 7 years ago I had a beautiful gorgeous boyfriend who liked Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Archers of Loaf, Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel, Palace, etc...
The only band I really took to at the time was Modest Mouse. And he bought me their Modest Mouse album, at three dollars new in a little shop in Boston. You can get the same album now for $25 u.s. on ebay. It must be post-production now.
Anyways, I dither............................
Modest Mouse has somehow landed itself in my aural archives but Built to Spill. I just think their are fantabulous. Doug Marsch rocks. I couldn't tell you what my favorite song is. Else though tends to always get me a bit passionate.

So if you are looking to check out a band that hasn't sold itself out (even though I think built is not really together anymore) or a musician who is really cool check it out. And I here Doug Marsch is doing solo acoustic projects now too and I would still pay to see him, even though I hate anything that might even resemble folk.

'From Now on' has to be their opus, although Ancient Melodies has some sharper tunes. Like Grandaddy but with better vocals and guitars

Built to spill certainly did some great records.. and also Treepeople were great, when you like Built to spill you should really check those guys out... (which is practically the same band)...

# I'm really glad
there`s a grasp to grab
it`s only a stab in a wet paper bag
is that so bad #

clever lyrics and clever guitar playing
what more could a person want
well a glass of wine would be nice.....................

Marsch's guitar sounds a lot like Neil Young's but we don't mind that, do we?

Heh, strangest thing, I saw Built to Spill live when they were supporting Foo Fighters in Glasgow in 1995 - it was a really wierd gig - the first band on was a local punk band called The Gin Goblins (they were just downright scary), followed by BtS, then the inevitable Foo Fighters - odd combination, no? I gotta say, I was just there to rock out, you know? BtS pretty much fell flat on their faces - didn't go down well at all. That memory of the band has kind of tainted my opinion of them over the years, which is a bit sad I think, 'cos I just came here, plugged Modest Mouse, Elliott Smith and Grandaddy into the search thingy, and it came up with this, and I've spent the last 30 mins listening to the sound samples on Amazon.com......I may have been wrong about these guys. Time to reach for my wallet, methinks - anyone got any recommendations for which album to buy first?

There is nothing wrong with love...

That's what I would buy first...............

Built To Spill is one of the best bands ever. Doug Marsch has a beautiful voice and the lyircs are so caring and truthfull. The band plays magically. They really are the ultimate of our time.

Built to spill was the first emo band. they started it all, weither that's good or bad, they will always be good.

PS big dipper is amazing

>>By White Light   (Thursday, 14 Jul 2005 06:34)

Build to Spill is not Emo, it is Indie if anything!

And if you make that statement for any band I would say itr was sebadoh, but that is also indie.
