Agalloch

A brilliant band! They combine folk, progressive rock, and black metal to create very emotional, atmospheric music.

I think the fact that I'm the only person to post on this board clearly shows that a lot of good music goes unappreciated, in this modern society.

This is interesting good music indeed. This is probably the only band from the United States that managed to make good atmospheric music. I like to listen it when it's winter when it's cold and dark. The instrumental song "The Misshapen Steed" from the Pale Folklore album deserves special attention. That song is just soo relaxing and when I listen to it, I only think about nature and cosmos. The Mantle is also a brilliant album, one song contains an ancient instrument used by native Americans.

I'm inclined to agree, Agalloch are the only U.S. band to make good atmospheric music.
I was actually surprised to find that they were American, I assumed they were from Finland or somewhere similar.

You said Finland? Agalloch made a split picture-disc with a Finnish band called Nest. It's a two-man band and they use "Finland's national instrument:" the Kantele. It's not metal, but it's real atmospheric and strange music. They also made a full-length cd called 'Woodsmoke.' You should try it, it's great!
