>>By lexi   (Tuesday, 14 Jan 2003 02:17)

oh my god- i agree!!!! They are so very much like interpol! :) and they're great. i know that the walkmen themselves listen to u2

>>By nilina   (Friday, 24 Jan 2003 00:40)

i love this band, it kinda sounds like maybe radiohead and joy division and U2.
i think they kinda capture the whole garage meets post punk sound made famous by the smiths and echo and the bunnymen in the 80's..
like interpol, i am appreciating their sound more than the other less talented garage rockers.
plus they use to be millioniaires and now produce theyre own stuff without the record company. riches to rags is always nice.

the walkmen are great. the first song i heard from them was "we've been had" on the saturn ion commercial. they remind me of interpol, too. i agree on the joy division/radiohead/U2 sound. AND i'll add on--they sound a whole lot like 'badly drawn boy' if you haven't heard of him (badly drawn boy is a one man band) you gotta download one of his songs--they're all good! wahoo! "U-S-A! U-S-A!" -homer simpson

who's interpol..hm..well, does anyone know where i can get any lyrics for these guys? i'm just like, "WHERE ARE THE LYRICS!?!!!???!" heh.

>>By burning big macs   (Sunday, 9 Feb 2003 23:33)

anybody know where to find lyrics

>>By jr   (Wednesday, 12 Feb 2003 07:09)

I really enjoy many of the bands that are developing from NYC, esp. The Walkman and Interpol. They definitely remind me of somewhere in between Echo & the Bunnymen and Joy Division, but the retro-ness is not the stereotypical The Strokes compariosn.

>>By Kat   (Sunday, 16 Feb 2003 04:37)

I saw them live, and I have to say, they are more amazing in concert, adding something that a cd cannot capture. All I can say is that this has got to be one of the best bands that I have heard. Fame is inevitable for them, let's just hope that it does not corrupt their style like so many other bands have experienced.

>>By Nice.   (Monday, 17 Feb 2003 08:22)

THE WALKMEN KICK ASS!!!!! these guys are great, and have opened me up to different kinds of music really. i also think they sound alot like interpol, but these guys definatley have a very unique sound.

~peace~

>>By smokey mcpot   (Thursday, 27 Feb 2003 09:23)

God, I love these guys...I've been waiting about fifteen years for a band this good.
They remind me of many bands, but their sound is unique...weird, huh?

>>By Zeitgeist   (Friday, 28 Feb 2003 04:07)

Sure would be cool to find some lyrics.

>>By a cow   (Friday, 11 Apr 2003 03:30)

how can i find out where they're playing and when and such?
i heard they might be playing with interpol and sharon amity in new york in may sometime.
WHEN?!?

>>By absk   (Friday, 11 Apr 2003 17:35)

Walkmen are (can't think of superlative at the moment). Besides Radiohead, Interpol, the Strokes, is there any really good music out there? These are the only bands that I've heard that are exciting. Is this it?

>>By Cul-de-sac   (Wednesday, 23 Apr 2003 00:41)

does anyone know a good lyrics site where i can find lyrics for the walkmen?

>>By corrente   (Friday, 25 Apr 2003 02:11)

The only line I'm confused about is "The foolish them"... enjoy, kids.

WE'VE BEEN HAD

I’m a modern guy
I don’t care much for the go-go
Or the retro image I see so often
Telling me to keep trying
Maybe you’ll get here someday
Keep up the working okay
I close the book on it right there.

I’ve seen myself change
As the days change over
I hear the songs and the words don’t change
I write them out of the book right there

We’ve been had
You say it’s over
Sometimes I’m just happy I’m older
We’ve been had
I know it’s over
Somehow it got easy to laugh out loud.

See me age nineteen
With some dumb haircut from nineteen
Sixty moving to New York City
In with my friends there
We’re all taking the same steps
The foolish them.

We’ve been had
You say it’s over
Sometimes I’m just happy I’m older
We’ve been had
I know it’s over
Somehow it got easy to laugh out loud.

can anyone help me

>>By luker   (Friday, 2 May 2003 08:43)

nooooo. they are NOT like interpol. how dare you!

>>By jinners   (Tuesday, 6 May 2003 19:06)

I've seen the Walkmen live, I've seen Interpol live.

They are not alike at all! (and they are both damn good)... but to me they do not sound alike at all.

Anyone heard of the Libertines? (they're from the UK)

another damn good band!

>>By Sunshine   (Friday, 16 May 2003 03:17)

SPOON! THE WALKMEN! THE MODERN LOVERS (first album)! THE FRENCH KICKS! THE LIBERTINES! THE WALKMEN!

so much good music out there so little time. i think the lyrics above are off a bit, but cant seem to find any good comprehensive lyrics site for them. bummer.

>>By a   (Monday, 19 May 2003 04:26)

Walkmen are incredible. I wouldn't say they are that similar to Interpol, but I can see why people say that. Interpol is a lot more produced and fine-tuned, I think. (Like them too.)

Spoon (as the above person mentioned) rocks! Go buy Girls Can Tell and discover this incredible band.

>>By enlightenedkitty   (Wednesday, 4 Jun 2003 06:22)

When I first heard the walkmen I couldn't stop telling people about them. sooo good! And they're alot better than the pop music stuff that's been manufactured into the ground. I managed to find a site with SOME lyrics, but I'm a little disappointed, the lyrics for "I'm Never Bored" aren't there. oh well here it is: http://www.songmeanings.net/artist.php?aid=9295

Hoped to have helped. If you want any other good bands, try The Coral, The French Kicks, Brendan Benson and The Welfed Boys(sometimes just Brendan Benson) and too many others. the walkmen also have a website http://www.thewalkmen.com

>>By nothingcankillthegrimace   (Saturday, 7 Jun 2003 20:39)

I'm glad to hear a comparison to Spoon. The Walkmen and Spoon have an "itchiness" to their music. I like to call it erratic eroticism.

>>By carrie   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 20:38)

You're so damn happy people! For me it's amazing: "I've seen the Walkmen live, I've seen Interpol live." Oh God! I think it must be bad dream. They can, me not. I don't understand all that shite.

>>By marjan   (Friday, 20 Jun 2003 14:37)

Well, all I have to say my friend is that I love their music so freakin much! They have to be the best band out there today, their sound is so original, the lyrics are amazing! They are, and forever will be the best band! OH and by the way you guys should come to Tannessee!!!!! Haha well Have fun and I wish you good luck on the road to complete success!!!!!!!!

>>By punkydancer11 or Christina   (Tuesday, 24 Jun 2003 23:26)

Im retarded its TENNESSEE not TANNESSEE

For all you who have been unable to find lyrics for the star wars song "Fortruss" by Walkmen, here you have it, by yours truely. ENJOY THAT SH!T

Artist: Walkmen
Album: Fortruss b/w Countdown Theory (CD single)
Song: Fortruss
Typed by: Craig_reimche@hotmail.com

[Tino Vega] (Storm Trupa)
It's the 7th Squadron on a roll
We got gravity like the black hole
Take hold of your stereos.. while we take control
Rugged Soldier, Spanish Prince
(Storm Trupa - The Ark Angel)

"The chemistry of this atmosphere is unlike that of any other"

[Tino Vega]
Intelligence, packed in venomous tongues of lyricists
My rhymes are thoroughly dipped in verbal liquid
Before I get on the mic and spit any type of shit
Rhymes hit wigs and make em split, tell me if you can fuck with it
A mysterious war story, no heart no glory
Leavin warfields gory, a spooky character
With eyes that glow, the color yellow
A shiesty fellow, mass murderer, alarm sound burgular
Grab your weapon, and hold down your section
Deadly instrument, play the harp, sad song that hits the heart
Shatter into tiny parts -- aww shit
Walkmen about to leave footprints
Robbin' from the filthy rich and give it to the good
But not a bit innocent, 7-S applyin' stress upon your chest
With verbal tecs, when we catch wreck
Walkmen up in the set "Don't make me destroy you!" -> Darth Vader

Chorus: Walkmen

Fortruss, our styles is morbid, can you absorb these
rhymes corrisives, with overdoses, high explosives
Thoughts ferocious, as we metamorphis
in a state of mental orbit

* cut n scratch - "The dark side!" *

[Storm Trupa]
>From the galactic civil wars to the battle of Endor
The Storm Trupa has endured the ridicule of his hip-hop mentors
Now it's my time to venture on and respond for the next generation
With the more systematic information
While my Squadron stands in a tight formation
Waitin on a platform, of an imperial battle station
Tie Fighters stand by, for aviation
Let's lay down the foundation, and build towards the sky
As the Ark Angel inaugurates his third eye
I use the Force as my ally, never yield to the Dark Side
Like Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader
In any confrontation I pull out my light saber
These galactic crusaders facin a fleet of invaders
My thoughts navigate, as my spirit illustrates
So my foes meet they fate
Then I annihilate, cloak my ship to investigate
Jump into hyperspace, headin back towards Echo Base
This is my Fortruss, this is my place
Where we intergrate with any other alien race
Scouts give chase, the Storm Trooper 'luminates like a flare
There's no despair when the 7th Squadron is there
Walkmen, puttin MC's in fear, beware -- yes!
7-S, embranded on your chest, we the best

* a series of R2D2 beeps and whistles *

Chorus

* cut n scratch - "The dark side!" *

[Tino Vega]
Bless the warfield, with dreams to succeed
Proceed, to build a strong dynasty
And form a galaxy, my rhymes flow implode
And cause mass catastrophes

[Storm Trupa]
Master these rhymes like the Ark Angel psychokinetic energy
I change my styles drastically
So I know, fake MC's, can't fuck with me

[Tino Vega]
The Rugged Soldier spreads like a flash fire
Have all snitches hangin like a bird on a wire

[Storm Trupa]
I desire to destroy all evil empires
With my light saber, breathin heavily like Darth Vader

[Tino Vega]
Control your mind like a Sega
Street Fightin all opponents like Vega
Agressive defense on the mic is military sequence
Bombs explode frequent, devastatin' all allegiance
The Spanish loyal Prince leadin' the Squadron to victory
In this millenium's history

Chorus: repeat 2X

"It's a trap!"
"May the Force be with us.."

I really don't think Interpol and the Walkmen are that similar, actually not similar AT ALL. . .I am not a big fan of Interpol, but I adore the Walkmen. . .I always thought I heard a distinct Brian Eno meets The Modern Lovers sound in them. . .which is amazing b/c these two artists def. make my top 5 album lists. . .In fact, Brian Eno's 'In Dark Trees', one of his ambient pieces can distincly be heard in 'Blizzard of '96' from the Walkmen's "Everyone who pretended to Like me is Gone". . .Anyway, I think that album is a master piece, which was going to be tough to top, and wasn't with the release of 'Bows + Arrows" (still a really good record though). . .They also did an excellent split with Calla that I own on vinyl. . .

Saw the Walkmen/French Kicks at the Metro. . .great show, they had Paul Maroons guitar tuned up nice and loud, it sounded incredible. ..
