Ultravox was one of my favorite bands during the early 80s. They were a true electronic ROCK band. No other band could rock out with synths and drum machines like Ultravox could at that time. Only Gary Numan came close in my opinion. Unfortunately they were too European to be big in America and that's too bad because mainstream America missed out on some great music. I have to say the early version of Ultravox is also worth checking out. They were certainly ahead of their time. Get all of their albums...from Ultravox! to Lament. They're all classics.

Well my obsession with ultravox / ure began in 1981 when I picked up Vienna. My collection exploded over the years .
The question is why did this artist make such an impression?
In a word .....STYLE.
Cerebral ,emotional lyrics backed by (then )state of the art electronic wizardry. It is all in the past and unfortunately any chance of repeating this has fallen...ultravoxians will know ..." we must behold the things we see"

I thought I was the last Ultravox fan still walking the planet. I do a brilliant Midge mime to all their tracks, I know most songs word for word. I have a video of myself Miming to 21 tracks of Midge Ure & Ultravox, of which Midge himself has a copy.
Ultravox were the best musical group I have ever seen and still are as far as i'm concerned.

I discovered Ultravox in 1981 through Alternative Rock Radio KNAC Long Beach, "All stood still"
got me started, after that, I collected all their LPs. Midge Ure hosted Video Beat in Los Angeles in 1984, presenting New Wave Music Videos for one show. Ultravox is the back up band that plays on "Cars" for Gary Numan.

gosh talk about Nostalgia! Do you guys realise its nearly twenty years since Midge Ure teamed up with Geldof for Live Aid. I cannot call myself an Ultravox fan but even I admit to "Vienna" being a classic. I also remember him in a group called Slick, a friend of mine use to rant and rave about him.
