Discussion: Tricky

My favorite triphop artist. Saw him live twice. First time was very strange and dark. Second time it was more like watching a rock band. Think the second time was 2001 or so. Was amazing.

I am absurdly into Tricky and want to hear recomendations for what else I might like. Maxinquaye is best in my opinion, Blowback is second, then Juxtapose, then Pre-Millenium Tension and then the rest.

If you mention Portishead, Massive Attack and Bjork to anyone, they may instantly know who you are talking about but most of these fans never seem to know who Tricky is.

I find this strange since as he has influenced a lot of their material and Tricky (real name Adrian Thawes) was a member of Massive Attack at one point.

If you like the artists I mentioned in my first paragraph, go to your local record shop and hunt down a copy of "Nearly God". It'll take you a few good listens but it does more than grow on you - it sticks it's claws right into you and shows you Tricky's nightmarish world.

Terribly frightening stuff but with so much beauty to give, you can't help but fall in love with it over and over again.
