Tool has been repetitive... just does not stir an interest in me anymore. I could careless if they were to all just fall off the face of the earth. There are better and more talented bands to appreciate than Tool.

firstly, maynard is not god, hes a human and the simple fact that tool are against followers and people who follow others and god, i feel is an insult to them.
i am a huge tool fan, what they give to me is indescrribable as they take my mind to places most people will never encounter. they have brought alot to my life. tool do not wine about life- go fucking listen to lateralus you imbecile who said that. ive also read that toolband-suck website and wrote a 1000 word email in response- im still wiating for my reply.
tool have pushed music to its outer limits and developed theyre music and brought it to new levels that never fail to amaze me. they are amazing musicians who are seriously over-looked and misunderstood.
i completly agree with the point someone said when they stated that even if you dont particualrly like tools music, you still respect them and see what potential they have.
it is in my opinion that they are one of the most important bands and all i can do is wait and see what they do next.

Does anyone know where i can get the Tool: Lateralus VINYL?

>>By Mav3rick   (Friday, 21 Feb 2003 04:35)

tool is a frigging amazing band, and I only have 2 of their albums. My favorite song would have to be 46&2, just because of the ending. I listen to tool every day and they are my favorite band. I only listen to rock though, and they are in my opinion the best rock band on the planet. I also think they put more work into a single album than any other band. There videos are amazing too, the first time I watched the Parabola video, everything they were talking about made sense to me. tool is extremely deep and extremely kick-ass. what more could you want?

>>By floormatt   (Saturday, 22 Feb 2003 02:53)

How can people say the Tool complains about life, sucks, is repetitive, only for goths, and blah blah fiuckin blah? First of all I've listened over and over and haven't heard any complaints. Second they suck? No way whoever wrote that was on theri period and venting anger, I forgive you. Third I think the most repetitive they get is in their Undertow song Disgustipated and I happen to like that one. For goths only hmmm, I don't think so. I was a four year starter in football, basketball, and a state winner in the 400 m dash. Not quite a goth, wait check that not a goth at all. I don't have anything against them either, usually they are nice people. Tools awesome. What else is there to say? They are my favorite band but its not like all I listen to. Oh well think what you all want to.

Name 3 bands that have the same amount of musical talent as Tool.

Bet ya cant. There is no other band that even comes close to the amount of skill that Tool has.

Music is an emotional, pysical, and mental state of being. Tool is unmatched in every way and untill they inspire the next group of great musicians they will remain at the top.

The next great band WILL be created a group of kids who listen to Tool and decide they need to surpass them.

Thats what Tool wants. To inspire the next great band.

Tool is good, i dont think its ment for goths or for drug addicts or anything, its music, its meant for people, its beautiful music for beautiful creatures.. humans. You can cry all you want, but it wont change anyones minds. Fighting over the internet is stupid its like fighting with a monkey, even if you do win the fight.. your still a dumbass.

Also, why does everyone feel it in themselves to defend this music? They aren't the band, they don't know the band they are infatuated with the lyrics and the sound. Emotionally De-tach, they can defend themselves, worry about yourselves, music is healing, not the start of war.

To Mav3rick, the vinyl Lateralus is not out yet.

Tool is, by far, the best band in the world right now. I can't describe to you people what this band's music has opened my eyes to. To the guy who said Tool is whiny gothic music, listen to Lateralus from begining to the end. The only song on there that is remotly whiny is Ticks & Leachs. All the other songs on it are uplifting and have positive messages. Not only are Tool's lyrics incredable, but their music is something that no other band out there can touch. They have complex time signatures, amazing guitar riffs, and a drummer that is an absolutely breath-taking.

To anyone interested, come to http://toolshed.down.net/ and sign up at the opinion pages. It curently has over three thousand members using it. It's pretty much a place where you can go to discuss meanings to Tools lyrics and other stuff that is involved with Tool. It really is a great website.

Tool indeed is a great band, and for those who don't like them,
is just because they don't know anything about subhuman natural, they don'tknow themselves or how they work, they can barely move out of their mechanical world to see what's beyond existance - And i know and say it, because from the roots of my Soul - without drugs, i've found out lots more about existance, know where we come from, what relates us with eachother, what common forces are present, what other spirits and Souls want in their deep ends of the natural ways, i'm an Occultist and live for it, because there is nothing more important then life itself, all the rest around is superficial in my eyes, just to pass some time or earn money, but it doesn't make human kind come to the point, by the way metal, and Tool (whatever you would specificly call the Tool genre) is one of the fullest kinds of music that get to the point of existance, music like techno, or dance music won't get you smart a bit, and i know it's true on an objective point of view, all it could bring for those whole like techno and dance music is the joy of life, but still, it won't make people smarter, nor the ones who only listen to r&b, it's just yapping about little things of life, and i'm sitting there like "Get a f*cking grip" But Tool and Metalbands and Raggae for example , (and a few more genres like Blues, etc...) are things that really gonna make people think, because it contains something worthfull deep inside that will bring us to greater unnderstanding as a human, and that's the true key to evolution, and most of mankind needs BIG evolution, even i, however i'm far where i stand now, i know that decripting my Soul in any way there is and in any situation is a life job..As humans you can achieve the work of what we should become, a deeper person, as pure as spirits themselves to understand and see in purity, and make other people concious of that purity and righteousness of heart and Soul too, to hel pevolution to the right side. I believe that one man can change the world by making others see, i know because i'm on my way , all by myself to change the world, we have everything in us to do so, and Tool is a great element of Faith and perception to see, so everyone who don't like Tool, as long as you don't onderstand it, you won't get anywhere in this life, but don't stop us from doing our job, because we can't stand people who are doing exactly the contrary then to give light to the real gift of life by "not thinking" and feed the wheel of the "mechanical empire" because we don't need this fake, the Only true thing here on earth to rely on, and that is more real then anything is nature itself, the rest is just superficial construction...
I believe in my heart and Soul above any constitution made by mankind, and Tool is a group that helped my up , to have faith in myself, together with other metal. Tool will make a difference in this world, through anyone who uses it's Soul , heart, with his mind - in combination with his Communication to make other concious of the higher facts.

>Name 3 bands that have the same amount of musical talent as Tool.

>Bet ya cant. There is no other band that even comes close to the amount >of skill that Tool has.

Ha. Umm. Ok, I'll try to limit myself to three. I'll also stay within the Rock genre, since I'm not even going to try to convince a bunch of people here of soul or jazz bands/musicians that truly are fucking geniuses. Ok, first of all-

1. The Clash. "The only band that matters" The songwriting team of Joe Strummer and Mick Jones is unsurpassed in my opinion. (Perhaps rivaled by Lennon/McCartney duo...btw, I won't try to use the Beatles here, although I think they're better than Tool. And I have listened to Tool. Lots of it. Not by my own choosing, but I've given it a chance. I tried to like it one time when I came back to my dorm room high, nope, not even then) The politics, fusion of styles, and the influence on music today is unbelievable. RIP Joe Strummer.

2. Cream. Pure musicianship and talent. Absolute raw talent. Jack Bruce > Paul D'Amour or Justin Chancellor. No question. Eric Clapton > Adam Jones. Don't believe me? Listen to Crossroads. Those solos are just pure talent/skill.

3. Now, this one might just be pure opinion on my part. Also, it's getting late and I have a quiz to study for and a paper to write tonight, so I don't think I'm gonna go to the trouble of coming up with real arguments. Maybe some other time. But, The (International) Noise Conspiracy. Mmmm. Swedish-y goodness. Interesting politics, great sound, and Sara Almgren.

Now, while it may be my opinion that Tool isn't very good, or maybe, in fact, sucks (gasp!) I'm not going to try to claim it as fact, because I cannot defend that statement at this point. Perhaps some other time. But, I do want to point out that there is more out there, and that perhaps Tool is overrated and there are other bands to consider before you say that TOOL IS BETTER THAN ALL OTHER BANDS THAT I'VE NEVER HEARD. I'm interested in how this will be responded to. And let me tell you what not to argue to me (which is what has been said to other people that don't like tool). I'm a psychology/philosophy major. I am familiar with concepts like psychological determinism and phenomenology. Please don't try to tell me that I don't understand what he's trying to say. I'll also be willing to argue that a lot of his philosophical views are not as original as many fans try to say. Well, it's late and I have stuff to do, so I'm not going to be reading this over, so please don't stoop to pointing out the typos that are surely there. I look forward to hearing your responses.

>>By LittleFallOfRain   (Tuesday, 25 Mar 2003 05:57)

hey man. i don't think you fully understand what tool is all about. i know you said youre a philosophy major and crap and that you do know what theyre talking about. i don't believe you. don't get me wrong i'm not trying to put you down or anything, but i just don't see how you can understand it. if you do, i'd love for you to explain some of the songs to me. this isn't sarcasm, or a challenge, i really would love to comprehend their lyrics. i dont think i've ever heard lyrics that go so deep or have such deep meaning.

as for tool as musicians. the clash, beatles, cream, awesome stuff. you said their music was genius, but i wouldn't go that far. the way i see it, they stumbled upon something great, and without bands like them, there wouldnt be the great music that we've had over the past few decades. i'm not saying that tool is a group of geniuses either. they even stress this, saying that they are humans and they make mistakes just like we do. but, i do think that they are at a level that not many people have achieved before.

i sure hope that you play guitar or bass or drums or something like that. i get pretty pissed off when people talk about how much better a guitarist is than another guitarist or a drummer being twice as good as this drummer. again, not a challenge, because i dont know whether or not you actually do play music or not. adam jones may not be the greatest guitarist we've ever seen, but, he should be given much respect for his work on expressing the meaning of his songs through his playing, and especially for his guts with odd time signatures. HOLY CRAP danny carey is good. i mean i have NEVER heard a drummer bring so much out of music. EVER. i've been reading all over the internet about how there are much better drummers out there than danny carey, (mike portnoy especially) but these people usually don't understand that its not about being the best drummer in the world. its about playing whats appropriate for the music that your playing.

my time is being cut short. ill talk later. get back at me with a response. i'd like to hear more.

>>By CBrooks   (Tuesday, 25 Mar 2003 20:04)

Ok, I was a little rash with my previous statements, and for that I apologize. Also, I think you took some of my statements differently than I intended (once again, most likely due to a lack of good explaination on my part). I wasn't trying to say that I always know what their lyrics are trying to say, I was countering an arguement I've had with other fans that have said that I can't understand (insert concept presented by tool song here). I'm not trying to say I understand everything, but I'm arguing that I CAN and that the fact that I think that there are better bands than tool does not stem from an inability to comprehend things at the same level as tool fans. I'm not trying to say that about anybody here, but I have heard it before. I apologize once more, if you took it that way. I also concede the point that the members of the band do have an impressive musical ability. I never said this wasn't the case. To answer your question, yes I am a musician as well. I've been playing instruments for a number of years now in both rock and more clasical styles. I play a number of brass intruments, in addition to bass (electric and upright) drums, and guitar (although, admittedly, my skills outside of euphonium and bass guitar are less than stellar to say the least.)

CBrooks, I appreciated your post, and agreed with it to a great degree. My main point was in response to the statements such as: "There is no other band that even comes close to the amount of skill that Tool has." I thought that this was fairly close-minded and wanted to bring some points to this conversation. I'm not trying to argue that the talents are anything less than impressive, but I felt there was a point to be made. I hope that I made this post more clear with what I had meant. Thanks.

3 bands that are better musically than tool are The Beatles, Pink floyd and Black Sabbath. Excluding the classics.

>>By vladskov   (Wednesday, 26 Mar 2003 23:33)

3 bands that are better than tool: The Clash, The Sex Pistols, and The Ramones. I can even go into 3 better singers than MJK: Jello Biafra, Iggy Pop, Glenn Danzig...
Its music, listen to it, dont defend it. your not gonna change anyones minds by defending it or telling them its good. your all just a bunch of kids who want somthing to talk about. let me just say this... the internet sux, life sux, mainstream sux. tool isnt a country dont fight for it, listen to it, its music it was ment to be heard not to be fought for by a bunch of computer nerds in their underpants in the middle of the night with a glass of milk and a cookie on their desk next to them, jacking off 6 times a day cause they cant even get a girlfriend or pay a whore to fuck em with all of daddys money.
