First of all Thrice is not Punk. Punk rock died with DK and the Pink Lincolns, not to mention GG Alan. The music people today classify as punk is sped-up over glorified rock...and alot of it could even be said to be pop rock. NFG, The Ataris, Blink 182 and others like them have no real connection with the punk movement save for the drumlines and a few references to groups like Black Flag. Their is nothing wrong with these groups (a few have songs that I enjoy), but to label them as punk rock is an error. To tangent for a moment, I do not understand the overwhelming need to label and classify music everyone seems to have. Good music is good music no matter what subculture it originates from. People who hold to the opinon that one style is better than another or the idea of refusing to listen to a song because it is not of a particular type, are not true lovers of music. Music is to be felt as well as heard. Whatever moves you be it Thrice, VNV Nation, Bach, or the friggin Beach Boys (blehh) is true art and an intensly personal experiance, known and understood only to the true lover of music. No matter how much you hate it, chances are, there is someone out there that loves it dearly. But I digress.
Thrice is not punk, or metal, or hardcore, or emo. Thrice has managed to forge a sound that is utterly unique. Drawing from all the aformentioned styles they have developed a soundscape that is rich in lyrical content, and razor sharp riffs, without compromising their edgy sound. Thrice is not a religious band, persay, though they do seem to posess deep spiritual overtones that do much to show that they are not afraid to speak out about thier belifes. A stance that many groups seem to shy away from in favor of bubble gum pop lyrics that appeal mainly to younger, shallower fans. Thrice has a more mature approch to life and is appealing to both the romantic and the intellectual. Their frequent references to works by C.S. Lewis (a christian author, philosopher, and poet) would suggest that they support the faith, and maybe in some aspects they do. I have had the pleasure of reading much of Lewis's work and though I do not proclaim christianity, his thoughts and opinions are brilliant and I highly recommend him to anyone interested in philosophy and theology.
I fell in love with Thrice when I heard the song T&C, and have been faithful since. They speak to me, and move my heart, sometimes to tears. To anyone who hasn't heard them and are tired of the fluff that comes with most mainstream music (which, by the way is mainly produced by billion dollar corporations who have no love for music, but only for the money you so readly pay them for basically the same crap rehashed, disguised, and spewed out over and over) I would recommend you check them out.

P.S. Avril is not an artist, she and many like her ar entertainers. There is a BIG difference people, come on now....
