Discussion: The Pixies

Pages: 1 2
The ultimate band of the 80's. I wouldn't even call them 'rock' or even put them under a genre. Their music spoke a language of its own and with strained vocals and passion they created some of the most off the wall, bizzare crazy but original music that has never been matched. When I think of the word Classic and words classic band I don't think of The Stones or The Beatles, or even Nirvana. I always think one band from Boston. One band who changed the face of music and killed the 80's. That band is Pixies.

Life after the Pixies

Well Kim Deal and her twin sister formed The Breeders and a rocking good band they are too but just check out 'The Swimmer' from the album 'Dog in Sand' by Frank Black and the Catholics - and you'll know where the real creative force behind the Pixies was coming from -it's a thoroughly odd and wonderful song, worth several listens too....
FB is still a powerhouse of creative and explosive music and song. All of his post pixies albums are worth listening too - although as with a lot of FB work it can take a couple of listens to really get into it.

The best Frank Black album is teenager of the year! It is his best solo work ever.Still, hav'nt bought devils workshop yet, does anyone know if its good? VIVA LOS PIXIES

the pixies are an awesome band. now days their sound might not seem quite as original, although it was very unique. But in the 80's when they came out their sound was totally different then the stuff that was out at the time.

I sold 400 Cd's today as I'm packing up everything to chase a dream. I took a list of all what I had so I will be able to get them again. Out of all CD's their is one album I really miss listening to among others, but this one is really sticking in my head. Frank Black's 'Teenager Of The Year'. I agree that it is his best solo work to date.

Bossanova
Come On Pilgrim
Teenager Of The Year

Are my favorite works of Black Franics aka Frank Black

Pixies = Greatest band ever. Who agrees?
They seriously have changed everyone who I've introduced them too, it's like when you've heard them no-one else matters. The people I've converted have almost completely dumed all their old records in favour in such works of art as Come on Pilgrim.

Also, why do people treat Bossanova and Trompe le Monde with such disdain? They may be weak by comparison with earlier Pixies stuff, but come one! They're still belting albums, Bossanova has Allison and Trompe le Monde has Letter to Memphis. They only look slightly weak because the preceding albums are so fucking ace. Yeah!

One of the most underrated bands! You can hear their influences in so many of the bands that came after. Ask Kurt Cobain, he will tell you!

This Monkeys gone to Heaven

I love the song "where is my mind." What is the music video all about? Are the lyrics
demonstrating exactly what the song is about. .just where is my mind?

there are rumours for a reunion next year with live shows to follow.Strange,as Frank said in a 2001 interview that he hasn't spoken to Deal since the pixies' last show back in 1992.Who knows, maybe they made up since and those rumours will come true. But I'd rather they wouldn't.

There are bands that just change the way you think...i think the pixies are one of those bands. They write songs that can be interpretied in may diffrent ways. For one person, a pixies song could mean one thing... and to another person, the same song could me something compeltely different. I think that is what makes a band great.

pixies rock man their totally better than nirvana

>>By your_name_here15

Wow. This page is desolate. That's unfortunate seeing as how one of the best bands of the last 20 years has gotten back together to play at the Coachella!!!! Momentarily, at least. Too bad I won't be able to see it.

>>By The Walrus

true, very true Walrus, they are back !

>>By heras

The Pixies are one of the best bands of the eighties but Joy Division were better. Also Husker Du are contenders. Wonder if the Pixies will have mellowed with age for their reunion tour?

>>By dismemberment_plan

i love the pixies!!!! i mean the music, of course
i´ve seen them at the hurricene festival in scheßel/Nds(germany) they were the first band i saw after i had arrived at the festival and as they started to play all my worries and my anger from the journey were blown away. that was one of the shortest but most wonderful hours in my life.
!!!pixies please come back to germany!!!

pixies 4 ever

>>By Nomma

Ok, the reunion happened and I did see them in one of the summer festivals.Excelent show! Why the bittersweet feeling though? What's wrong with me?Let's hope the new songs won't disappoint.

Excellent, someone with the good taste to start a Pixies discussion.

I also class them along side The Stones and Zeppelin when people talk about classic rock. Doolittle is one of the most complete albums ever recorded, and Where Is My Mind has to be the greatest rock single of all time.

>>By Stinkfist

As Bowie said the Pixies were one of the most important band of the 90´s.
Thank god they´re back...
Take care.

>>By landito

I wish I could see them live!

I wish i wish i wish.

Best of luck.
Pixies.

>>By Ozma123

changed my life.

>>By damagecontrol

Let's talk about this band. Why hasn't anyone been? I think Kim's backing vocals sound so sexy.

>>By spikee

I know all the words to Surfer Rosa, which makes a me just a little bit more awesome than a me that doesn't know all of the words. It also means I hurt my throat on long driving trips, because I try to mimic Frank Black's voice which hurts my sissy vocal cords.

>>By doug

God, who didn't rip the pixies off in the early 90s? I like them. 'hey' is good.

>>By Plastic Passion

I saw themn this past week! Finally after 12 years of pure love of them. Yeah!

>>By superfizz

There is nothing original to say at this point. .... it has been said already. I love this band.
