I saw Arcade Fire only a few months ago at the Bug Jar here in Rochester only a few months ago. The were an opening act for the Unicorns. I remember mumbling to one of the members of Arcade's band, "Hey, you guy's are better than the Unicorns." Now they're going to being performing with David Byrne and packing arenas instead of tiny bars.
They deserve it. They renewed my faith in indie music. Their shimmering urgency, their crystalline lyrics and needle-through-the-heart dynamics... it's a lush, full package.
I wrote in my journal the day after seeing them (and buying, thank God, the cd they sold at the show and is now getting pricey on ebay and is even better than Funeral) that they were a mix of the Pixies and the Pogues. All the awed critics seem to mention Talking Heads, but there's more... texture, more chaos and churning emotion, more soaring...
I just love them.

Of Montreal, however, is not of Montreal.
Arcade Fire is amazing. Just amazing.
