I enjoy Talvin Singh's music very much. I would like to be able to find music similar to his, not too traditional but not too moderan at the same time. If anyone has any suggestions besides Tabla Beat Science, please post here.

No doubt about the high quality of Talvin Singh's music!
Actually I´m going to write my dissitation (in musical science) about the blend of ancient, traditional asian and modern western electronic music, as featured by respectively Talvin Singh and Nitin Sawhney, but I am a little short on the information front. Does anybody out there know any good articles/books/tv-documentaries or anything?

I love his music, he is just irresitable . I never heard such music, he is mixture of two cultures and music coming inside from heart.

I'm doing an investigation for my music course on Talvin Singh's approach to composition. I'll be comparing tracks from OK with pieces from the purist Ravi Shankar to analyze what elements Talvin's taken from where, and how true he stays to the Indian Classical music he incorporates. So what do people think? Culturally and musically, what's gained and what's lost by Talvin Singh's music? (call it fusion if you want, but I think its more than that)

Being an Asian musician born in the Western world (France) myself, I find it easy to connect to what Talvin Singh or Nitin Sawhney do. The question that often arises is: how true do we stay to our roots or traditions? I could ask another question : what would happen musicaly if everyone would repeat what has already been done, and always remain respectful to the traditions? It's like marrying someone from the same family to keep the blood pure.
Music and art always need to be fed, and brought to new territories. Otherwise it's keeping a museum. It's great to learn and know what's been done in the past, it's great to keep it alive, but it's also important to move on.
