By the way. Medusa's Eyes? you said here in holland where are you from?

>>By Merilon   (Friday, 2 May 2003 19:01)

I'm from Noord Brabant - 's-Hertogenbosch. A place without any hardrockers : / except me then. ;)

Where do you come from Merilon?

>>By Medusa's Eyes   (Sunday, 4 May 2003 21:39)

I'm from Buitepost - Friesland....

A place inefcted with Hardcore-shit......... Do you know the Waldrock Festival? I live pretty close to that place....

This years fest looks great: IRON MAIDEN, STRATOVARIUS!!!! and lots more. if you don't know it. check out www.waldrock.nl

Come and see it.........unfortunately there was no room for Symphony X.

>>By Merilon   (Thursday, 8 May 2003 12:22)

I don't know the waldrock festival. Sounds cool! But I don't think I can't go because I'm already going to Fields Of Rock in Nijmegen. I don't have the money for it :(
I heard Symphony X is coming to Holland ( or at least to Europe ) again in autumn somewhere, but I'm not sure. I hope so, so I can see them again, and now as headliner :D

>>By Medusa's eyes   (Thursday, 8 May 2003 22:28)

As Headliner...... that's better than supportact.

let me kwon if you have any dates..........

ps. this is beginning to look like the Medusa-Merilon page......... let's enter a new topic:

If you could form your personal progband..... who would be in it (and not only SX-members)?

>>By Merilon   (Wednesday, 14 May 2003 11:50)

the odyssey wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww   (Thursday, 15 May 2003 20:05)

Okay.............

Mine would be:

Damian Wilson - Vocals
Micheal Romeo - Guitars
John Myung - Bass
Kevin Moore - Keys
Jason Rullo - Drums

>>By Merilon   (Saturday, 17 May 2003 15:31)

No way to compare SX to DT - DT are simply better (in any option, both technically and musically). Nevertheless I like SX (unfortunately never saw them live, I saw DT live this 6DOIT last summer). Hope both bands will develop in the future.

Max from Poland

>>By Max   (Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:33)

Okay, you are damn right, Muyng and Moore are the best (though I doubt Damian Wilson - don't like his voice), also I think Petrucci is better than Romeo.

>>By Max   (Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:35)

As for me, my progband would like as follows:

Ray Alder - vocal
John Petrucci - guitar
Michael Romeo - guitar
Kevin Moore - keyboards (ev. Clive Nolan)
Mike Portnoy - drums (ev. Mark Zonder)
John Myung - bass guitar

>>By Max   (Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:51)

I forgot 'bout Daniel Gildenow from Pain Of Salvation - I would choose him first instead of Ray Alder :)

>>By Max   (Wednesday, 28 May 2003 12:33)

I agree on you with Damian Wilson........you have to like his voice and I do.......so

Daniel Gildenow is a very good vocalist......but an even better bassplayer

>>By Merilon   (Thursday, 29 May 2003 19:59)

what are you talking 'bout - normally Daniel playin' the guitar - in my opinion the best hard-rock/heavy metal voice for the time beeing and what is this with the bass-guitar?

>>By max   (Monday, 2 Jun 2003 12:09)

Anyway Merilon - there are much better progmetral bands tnah SX, just mention Pain Of Salvation, Threshold and Fates Warning (which is the best in my opinion, besides DT) - I can comprehend the love to SX (I like them too), but generally speaking this band is classified (in my ranking list) just outside the above mentioned bands... :) Anyway - long live heavy metal (I'm goin' tommorow to watch the old good genious Iron Maiden Live) and progmetal - STAY HEAVY

>>By max   (Monday, 2 Jun 2003 12:15)

As far as Pain of Salvation is concerned you just missed the names and members of the band - Daniel Gildenlow makes vocals and guitar, and his brother makes the bass :)

>>By max   (Monday, 2 Jun 2003 12:22)

Talkin' 'bout heavy metal voices I would like to stress following singers: Ray Alder (of Fates Warning), Daniel Gildenlow (of Pain of Salvation), Bruce Diskinson (do not have to metnion the band :)), Mac (of Threshold), and a lot of heavy metalists like: Nevermore, Anacrusis, Chuck Shuldiner and so on... no place for Wilson (though I like him a little bit at Ayreon, but not at Threshold), no place for Allen,... and definitelly no place for LaBrie (though DT is my favourite band),... almost forgot 'bout Halford - metalgod's voice is never to be overcome :) = greetings from Poland (I envy you the Threshold concert in June, where the dvd will be done)

>>By max   (Monday, 2 Jun 2003 12:37)

I don`t think there is one singer in the world with the technical gift..that have been given to Russell Allen!....Bless his soul!

>>By Alx   (Thursday, 5 Jun 2003 23:32)

Russell has a great voice indeed! I think Dio has a great voice as well, but that's because Russell sounds like him a lot. :) Damian is a very good singer too. He rocks!

Hey guys, you all should go to the official Symphony X forum! It's for free. I met many friends over there and we discuss about a lot of different things (about SyX of course :) ). See you over there!

Max- theres no way in hell you can compare DT and SX, they play completely different styles. Petrucci is one of my fav guitarists, and id have to say that he and Romeo are both one of the greaterst in the world, but they both have their own styles and tone, but I find that Romeo plays alot faster and is more technical than Petrucci, and his stuff is so much harder to play. As for singing, LaBrie has his shining moments, and Russel Allen has his. Portnoy is more technical but Rullo is more musical, and both Myung and Lepond are equals. As for keyboarders, this is the only part where i find that DT beats SX hands down. Im a huge fan of LTE so i think Rudess is better both technically and musically. Like i said, u cant compare the two because they are completely different from each other, and members from both bands are some of the greatest musicians in the world. My friends who are huge fans of both bitch at anyone who tries to say that one is better than the other because they are amazing musicians themselves, and both DT and SX are equal inspirations for them.

I am From Serbia, and I'm a big fan of Heavy Metal and progressive as well. Dream Theater and Symphony-X are two diferent stiles, diferent music. Am a great fan of both
bands but if I have to chose between Michael Romeo and John Petrucci I chose
Romeo. Ah that killer riffs, solo just amasing. Best musician in Heavy Metal!!!@!!!

>>By Zmay!!@@!!   (Thursday, 24 Jul 2003 10:08)

Why not go a three pronged gutiar line up
Guitars: Petrucci
Romeo
Yngwie Malmsteen
Bass: Steve Harris
Keys: Jordan Rudess (have a listen to steinway to heaven)
Drums: Mike Portnoy

If you guys reckon Of Sins and Shadows is hard to play on bass try playing the guitar, and then try Sea of Lies. Reckon Romeo should be placed in an asylum coz he is a fukn nut case.

AND WHEN THE FUCK ARE DREAM THEATER, SYMPHONY X ETC. GUNNA COME AND PLAY IN AUSTRALIA. I'm sick of waiting. I'm coming to Europe next summer. Where's the best festival to see all the best power/prog bands.

>>By tommyruff   (Tuesday, 4 Nov 2003 18:55)

hey
I saw SX live in New York..and they were just great....I can't believe they hacked the song odyssey live verbatim....to the best band ever...cheers!!...Met romeo and boy is he down to earth!!...for me they are the best, DT just lost their # 1 spot...(and to all the guys who still think DT is # 1- do not under-estimate the power of denial)....especially after listening to TOT...!!..Long live SX and good luck DT!!

Symphony X is comming to me tommorow and when I see them I will be in a state of ecstasy. After that I'll be depressed because seeing this concert was the reason I was born and my life will have no further purpose.

>>By Metal Immortal of Valhalla   (Friday, 5 Dec 2003 21:56)

About the concert.... It kicked all ass. Toten mit macht! Honour at it's finest. The Odyssey kicked ass.

Hail Metal.

>>By Metal Immortal of Valhalla   (Monday, 8 Dec 2003 23:13)

Jesus Christ on a crutch! How about that Micheal Romeo eh? He's one feastful and heroic person. A true Defender of Faith. It's my beleif that this is the best of progressive metal. Any one who disagrees either knows somthing I don't, or they were born a little on the slow side.

>>By Beavis the Wise 4   (Wednesday, 14 Jan 2004 22:26)

Yes. I was also at the concert in Cincinnati. Micheal Romeo is a heroic man. He could eat all the powedered doughnuts on Earth, granted that he had the means.

>>By Montu - Sekhmet   (Thursday, 15 Jan 2004 22:19)

I hear that. Micheal Romeo is a master of fate. Truely he is king of the world. Damned shall the days of the houses of those who don't except his supremecy shall be. None shall deny him the right to rule, nor shall any defy him further.

Why does that song "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" sound so much like "the Planets" by Holst? They are totally the same and Symphony X should give the man credit. That's what Manowar does.

>>By Set - Amentet   (Thursday, 12 Feb 2004 22:39)

Symphony x is a great band they dwarf almost every other metal band out there they are my oneof my favorite bands a few others are therion Rammstein Nile and Tristania

>>By therion   (Wednesday, 10 Mar 2004 18:29)

My prog band line-up would be:

Devin Townsend - Vocals (because he's sick in the head)
John Petrucci - Guitar (because he has great tone)
Me - Bass (because it's my line-up)
Michael Pinella - Keyboards (because I work with him every day and don't want to hear him say' "Dude, how could you NOTpick me?")
Neil Peart - Drums (because their is no other who even comes close)

>>By bitor   (Wednesday, 26 May 2004 03:59)

one minor correction Martina Hornbacher on vocals
